Welcome from South Carolina! I honestly do not know how I would have put together the system that I have without being able to tap into all the knowledge available on this forum.
Welcome from South Carolina. My family and I had a great hammock camping trip to GSMNP this spring. We started making the switch a few ago and now cannot imagine going back to ground. Have fun on...
Welcome from South Carolina!
Welcome, switching to hammock has the best sleep I have ever had in the woods!
Hi There, i agree with other folks, definitely look into an underquilt to help keep the bottom side warm.
Dry and in the stuff sack - not had any problems yet (been hanging almost 4 years).
Words of wisdom here. I have had some real struggles with large trees.
I am such a cold sleeper I am very tempted to try my hand as it look great at stopping drafts.
My husband's goto hammock is an HH Expedition (I am a Dream Hammock fan) and he has had good luck staying dry in the smaller asym tarps without doors. Just make sure you get it correctly positioned.
I have not purchased from EE but have products from both LL and HG. You really can't go wrong with either vendor for a top quality, light weight quilt.
We own underquilts from both vendors and they both make excellant products. You really can't go wrong quality wise.
I prefer the muted, more natural colors so that my setup blends in rather than clashes with the environment around me.
We had really good luck finding spots to hang in Cosby Campground this spring. The sites were almost all heavily treed with minimal underbrush.
Good luck and stick with it, it took me a few times before I really fleshed out the system I liked best.
We've had good luck with hangs in both Huntington Beach and Myrtle Beach State Parks. Edisto Beach State Park also has some hanging spots.
I'll take it.
Interested in purchasing Superfly - Sending you a PM
What temps have folks used these at - TQ or UQ?
I am sending a PM. I'll take it.
I'll take it. Sending payment.
Hi there, sending a pm.
I'll take the Dangerbird! Sending you a PM.
Really like your design approach! One question - is there a need to do any waterproofing of the ridgeline?
If the first offer falls through let me know.
PMing you an offer
This is SO fun to think about. I am still relatively new to DIY, have sewn a TQ, camp pillows, and stuff sacks. Getting ready to start on two UQs. I also just placed a (for me) big order with you...
Eek (plus minor heart palpitation)! I was getting ready to start constructing two DIY summer-weight climashield UQs for 2 bottom-entry HHs (explorer and safari) using the KAQ tutorial as my starting...
Just brought the number up to 102 for South Carolina. Interesting the large number of members in GA, SC and NC.
Now that I've got my gear to together I am planing my first hang and loved reading this thread. I must say, having a raccoon paw the bottom of the hammock is one of my concerns about hanging.
I'll take it!
Easiest trick I know for dealing with this is placing tissue paper (super cheap at the dollar store) under your fabric (between the fabric and the sewing plate). Once you're finished sewing the...
Looking forward to reading along on this thread. I am in the middle of my first DIY project (TQ) and it's been really fun! Best of luck to you :)
I have some experience with weaving on 2 and 4 harness looms and a traditional diamond weave is just a variation on a twill weaving pattern. As with any basic woven fabric you will have stretch...
Thanks for all the welcomes and the heads up on the Dutchware raffle thread. I read some great ideas. I am planning out a top quilt right now so it was super helpful.
Looks great! I'm looking forward to trying my hands at making a DIY tarp. Any words of wisdom or "in hindsight" thoughts for those of us who have yet to try it?
I have both a serger and a sewing machine. I LOVE my serger for so many things, however, a serger cannot replace a sewing machine. A serger cuts and binds at the same time, you could not use it to...
I've been haunting these forums for a few months now and I've finally joined! I've been a "car camper" for 20+ years and have quite the glamping setup. However, I am ready to get off the dirt and...
