 I know, you can hardly pass anybody in the vicinity without hearing that question. I usually answer with: Not this trip, but: Have you seen Hands Up Tree? Have you hiked 205? Have you seen...
Ah....the problem with planning a fall hang. Don't throw stuff at me, but I forgot about college football! If that's the criteria then I vote for 11/ 1.
Gun season usually starts around...
Right now, I'm right here...but I can be anywhere there. ;) The other two: can't do anything with those!
Anybody want to do an trip in a couple of week-ends, before it gets too hot? I'm off April 18,19 & 20.
You know I'm in. I was thinking sometime in October or November, before gun season. Not sure how many deer hunters actually use Wolfpen camp anyway.

That's bad news-we were hoping y'all would be there. Don't worry, the acorns will fly again! Best wishes and a speedy recovery to your CSR.
April 4, 5, & 6
It's not a big sign though. 6 . 5 miles from Al. highway 33. I' m shooting for Friday too. Maybe I can add some signage.
Pics of the hang area:

I haven't forgotten. We might just have to drive down there and pick you up.
Max and I are really hoping you and Logan can be there. Tell Logan we are gathering up acorns! And, I guess I...
Allright! Sounds like the acorns will be flyin'
Not without crossing Sipsey Fork to 209, or bushwacking up Little Ugly Creek to 202. The trails across the road are unofficial but popular trails, used mostly for dayhikes or a short overnight loop....
Exactly. That is why I suggested this location. Plus, it's car camping-you can bring more stuff and still get to hike the SWA with support from others.
Yes, it's kid friendly. There could be other kids there- a lot of the folks I sent a notification to have children. My 14 and 16 yr old boys might be there too.
Come on down. Hammock hangs are the place to learn and check out lots of different gear.
Yes, very close to Wolfpen cemetery on the opposite side (south side) of Cranal Road.

:lol:I hear sasquatches love hammocks--when they see one they think piñata!
It is between Randolph and Sipsey Trailheads just off Cranal road--almost equidistant from either. I guess it's...
Wolfpen Hunters Camp. About 2 miles west of The Sipsey Recreation Area on Winston County Road 60 ( Cranal Road).
I plan on getting there Friday afternoon April 4.
This is car camping. Wolfpen Camp is primitive camping, no water, no showers, no hook-ups. We can take day hikes. Mileage will vary, depending upon the route and destination, but anywhere from...
I don't really need to know how many are coming since we're camping at Wolfpen Hunter's camp. No reservations required. Hope you can make it Stevebo.
How about April 4th-6th?
I have not been to Wolfpen Camp, so l can't say how good it is. But hey, it's a campground right next to the wilderness area.
How about sometime early April?
I parked at Borden TH and camped on Borden Creek because I arrived late in the afternoon. Since it was threatening to rain I decided against crossing any large creeks. We (me and the pup) crossed on...
Regarding a group hammock hang at the SWA: Since it is against the rules for groups larger than 10 to hike together or meet at a point inside the wilderness area, I have been looking for other...
I've parked at every one except the Brazile Trailhead and have not had any problems. That said, I know of one break-in a few years ago on Kinlock road. I think the thieves broke a window, ransacked...
Heading out to the SWA later today for a few days. I don't have a route planned, just looking to explore new ground. Possibly Brazile Creek drainage, and / or Clifty and Buck Rough.
Anybody want to wander around Sipsey Wilderness next week? I'm off work from 17th through 21st and planning on spending at least a couple of those days in the woods.
Nice! Those in t**ts will have to camp near the graveyard. You however, can camp anywhere you like, even above the falls. Be sure to point this out-it might convince them to take another look...

Looks like a nice weekend coming up for a winter hang.
Volunteers have put in several days of work on 207 with hand tools and crosscut saws. The problem is, there is more work than there are volunteers. 207 has sustained damage at least once a year since...
Oops, I forgot about the camping permits during deer season. Probably because no one ever bothers, and most of the kiosks are devoid of any information or vandalized. The camping permit is required...
There is not a real loop trail- it's just a bushwhack. There are several tracks and game trails from 201 into Parker. There is a "shortcut" trail in from Kinlock Road too. I've never used it, but I...
"Quick" and "Parker Branch" sounds strange in the same sentence.
But, I bet it was quite a nice day. Did you check out the bluff shelters? I've never taken the shortcut trail in to Parker...
I'll be on the lookout for the elusive red-bearded HottyToddy Squatch.
Congrats on the new house! Looking forward to Sipsey action.
It's possible to do a dayhike, some park at Wolfpen Cemetary and make the loop. The terrain is kind of tough-not as bad as other...
Looks like it's Sunday. I'm planning on getting to Thompson TH as early as possible and taking the short-cut up Whiteoak Hollow
Right now, it's looking like Feb 8-9 and March 8-9 for me.
If you start on 206 and end on 208, you will walk mostly downhill all the way to 204A. Then you climb up and out behind Big Tree. After that, it's relatively level and easy hiking all the way to 208,...
Which morning? 'Cause that wouldn't be good: up all night, hike all day followed by a two hour drive home. Unless...you bring your hammock and take a nap!
Anyone interested in a dayhike to Big Tree this Friday or Sunday?
That's it. You just have to be careful dropping into West Bee. More "interesting" terrain: rocks, steep, slick, waterfalls etc, etc.
It's a big area, but if there's a lot of us we will have to be spread out. East Bee Canyon where Big Tree is located is a popular place. People will probably be camped everywhere around there. We...
How about this route from Thompson Trailhead ? - either direction. Get to see Big Tree/East bee Falls, Saltpeter Cave, Shiprock , Auburn Falls.
2 day route doesn't involve crossing the Sipsey: not a problem. Tell Joe I won't get him lost for any longer than 2 days:lol: I'm sure Dakota can lead us out anyway!
Maybe the weekend before or the one after March 1st.
It sounds like you took 204A- the unofficial trail from 209 up to big tree. The shortcut I was referring to is the route up Whiteoak Hollow, then over the ridge and down into West Bee. The normal...
We're pitiful ain't we! All either of us had to do was call. Did you take the shortcut to Big Tree? You must have parked at the Day use area( by the bridge). If so that was Borden Creek you...
