Like the title says, couple of basic questions about guylines. If you use your tarp in porch mode, do you bring an extra set of longer guylines for that? If so, how long? Are do you always use longer...
An LR Defender and its roof rack are a different beast than an Xterra and its rack. Not sure what year yours is, but I would not have felt safe hanging from the rack on my 02 XTerra.
I tried a Google site search using this formula "uq suspension cord site:hammockforums.net." I got a whole list of results, but every one I tried to open returned the same 404 error. One of them...
I recently picked up an OES Deluxe and couldn't be happier with it. Brian was excellent about answering all my questions. It is exceptionally well-made.
Those are different style tarps. A more fair comparison might be between the Profly and the Mamajamba or between the Housefly and the Superfly, as the SF had built in doors and the Profly doesn't.

My main activity during my WV years was fly fishing, so it was always a haul.
Oh, yeah. the morning view.

Spent the night with the new pluq last night. Worked okay. I found it harder to get situated right with it and it's suspension.
The bigger problem was the shock cord suspension. It kept...
I lived in Stamford Park for 10 years. Huntington is a neat place, but it is unfortunately very far from most of the beautiful spots in WV.
Here we go...

Al l right. Shock cord has been added. Ends snugged up much better. Tried it out a few minutes ago and had to bail out. There's a nice breeze blowing, and my test spot is partially shaded, so it...
It does gap at the head end pretty significantly.

Will fix that today.
My homemade NS hammock (10') with ridgeline, whoopies, toggles, tree straps, Dutch clips, and bishop's bag weighs in at 17.6 oz.
I would never have thought to do that. There's one to tuck away for future reference.
They are the same hitch, just a different way of dressing the knot. It probably is more crucial when attaching thin backing to a fly line loop. The bottom way of connecting the loops is a cutting...
Got it re-done. Much better. Didn't run shock cord through the head/foot ends this time because it was such a pain the last time. Not sure if I'll miss being able to snug them up. Is there any easier...
I got in it and couldn't get comfortable. I was surprised first by how long it was and then by how narrow. Kept toying with the suspension to make it fit better but couldn't. Started thinking it was...
Gonna be chilly for Coastal Georgia this week, lows in the upper 40s. Since I'm hanging all week by my favorite tidal creek, the Little Satilla, I figured I'd better do something to combat CBS. I had...
It is quite short now, maybe 7" from the end of the hammock to the end of the bowline loop. That is the original prusik without the clip - good eye - but I left that there as a water break, not to...
So I switched to the HH. Monday afternoon a big front moved through. Dropped an inch and a half of rain in less than two hours. Rained pretty well again in the evening and then in the wee hours...
Inch and a half of rain in less than two hours today. Bone dry underneath. Sweet.
I'm at our semi-annual clergy conference down in South Georgia, on the banks of a section of the Little Stills River known as Honey Creek. A couple of random shots.

Many thanks for the link. Makes complete sense.
Pretty much what it says in the title. Any suggestions?
Wouldn't say that I'm hellbent on it, but I'm headed out this weekend, and I have two hammocks, a Hennessy and my homemade one. So one with bugnet, one without. If it ain't buggy when I get there,...
This is what i was referring to. Agree that a biner or something similar would be preferable, but lacking that this is an option.
Beg pardon if this has been discussed at length here already, but i didn't see it in a cursory search. I was just wondering about joining loops together, such as a continuous loop at the end of a...
Your first two pics are showing as broken links, at least for me. Can you repost?
It really wasn't that hard, if you follow those instructions. Getting the one can inside the other was the hardest part. I got it almost all the way but then the bottom of the outer can crumpled. So...
I have come purty close to coveting Shug's old MBD coffee mug ever since I first saw it. I know Tinny makes the QMH pot, but it's only 8 oz, and that's just not enough. So I did some researchin' and...
Please understand my question that follows is information gathering; it is not meant to be a challenge. I'm new at this, and a lot of it still confuses me.
How can the extra strap length hanging...
Great stuff; cool story; good pics. All too good for them to be upside down. So...

I assumed 15'.
Ah, thanky, kind sir.
So it seems 10' up to 15' covers what most folks. Several folks go with 12'. Dutchware seems the preferred attachment. This is exactly what I was looking to find out....
Hutz, thanks for the link. Those were the methods I was considering, actually, albeit with a small Figure 9 biner. I don't have Stingerz, and there's a part of me that wishes Dutch would stop making...
Now, Uncle Shug, I would never have posted such a question without first consulting that Standard Repository of All Hammock Wisdom known as your YouTube page. Lots of goodies there, to be sure, but...
I'm not sure what to call the lines that go from the ends of the tarp to the trees; not really a ridgeline, but when i did a search here before posting this question and called it "tarp tie outs,"...
Ayuh, we have to stick together. :shades:
180' for $30 or 25' for $25? I was an English major in college, so math (and physics, see above) can really puzzle me, but that doesn't make any kind of sense. I know stuff is cheaper in quantity,...
I'd love to have an adjustable one out of a whoopie or ucr, but I'm out of anything splice-able, and there's no place local to get it. Anyway, after getting the tarp and going to our oldest's new...
Went out last night and tried a few different settings. Ended up with it at about 88%, which felt good. There is just so much to take into consideration. Feel kinda dumb not realizing that suspension...
Well, the hammock is 120", so I don't think I'll be going any longer than that. :). Tarp is 130".
99.6". It's a 10' hammock.
When I made my hammock I out a ridgeline in it following the 83% formula. I'm thinking it's too short for me. I saw the war bonnet video with the 60 degree bend, and mines too tight for that.

I've got some rap rings I bought for my Hennessy but then switched it to whoopies. I have no use for the rings. Folks here have been so helpful that I'd like to respond in kind. Message me here if...
Ok. Didn't get home until late, so I'll string it up tomorrow. Here's the thing - i put it on the scale. 15.2 ounces without stuff sack. Website says 13.1 with seams sealed. Nearly 15% difference. Is...
Instead of posting my follow up here, i put it in the OES sub-forum. Here's the link.
Have been looking for a tarp to replace the stock asym that came with my Hennessy. It just won't provide the coverage i'm looking for with my new DIY hammock. What i also didn't realize - duh - was...
Which shoulder straps?
Shipping notice received yesterday evening, saying expected ship time is 1-3 days, Priority Mail. Getting excited. :)
