for cheap warm weather stuff, you really can't go wrong with a couple of milsurp poncho liners. they can be found for under $20/piece and there are a few tutorials around to convert one to a UQ. TQ...
While in more public areas, I just drop the tarp down and change in the hammock. For a big guy, I'm surprisingly "bendy".
In the woods? Modesty is left at the vehicle.
Do you have any examples of video that it took?
Just "liked" you both! Go get em!
I have a german short hair pointer named Kyle. :) He accompanies me on all of my adventures. Great on the trail and in the camp. As he is over 75 pounds, he doesn't sleep in the hammock, but...
it's almost a forced ingenuity. Because it still isn't as mainstream as tenting, we have to make some of our own things, develop new systems and experiment, experiment, experiment!
Everything went great! It was a beautiful day, with temps in the 50s. According to the weather, it was supposed to hit the low 30s at night. I hung my hammock, with the new whoopie slings and put...
I have a 75# german shorthair named Kyle. Def too big to put IN the hammock with me! What has worked out well in the past is that I carry a 25' cable lead in my pack. I'm no gram weenie, so it...
Thanks! I'll update it soon, once I get the tarp and uq situated. My goal is to have a complete package, minus top insulation, all in one easy to manage bundle.
I posted recently about my reconverted maxpedition bottle holder that now functions as a bishop bag. It holds my hammock and suspension, tree straps and toggles.
Strapped to one side is a tarp...
what a great idea!
I miss scouting! If I had more time in life, I'd like to help out with a local troop. But...alas, I don't.
Eagle Scout, 1998 troop 857
An update of sorts...

In no other point in life is it encouraged to have your butt in a sling.
Well, actually, I repurposed a water bottle holder. :)
As I have been trying to put everything back together, I found this water bottle holder that, at one time was part of my edc. While...
Great video! stumbling on your older ones on youtube is what pushed me into hammocks and this forum! Keep it up!
last year, as an experiment I used a fleece blanket on top of a pad. with my 30 degree sleeping bag as an over quilt, I was comfy down to 19 degrees. :) I love the idea of a fleece lined hammock...
cumberland would be awesome for a hang!
sounds like a great adventure! I'll watch for updates
doesn't bother me! Just means less folks cluttering up my hiking and camping areas! :)
I encourage the bear stories!
Exactly! Without diag lay, it would not be that comfy at all!
Well, that sounds like a good recommendation!
Awesome repurpose!
Interesting. Thank you! I'm trying to get a friend into hanging and he is on a severe budget! :)
MOST of the comments are pretty ignorant. Although the "hot pocket for bears" made me chuckle.
After this, I wanted to give back to the forum, so I donated! Thanks again to all of you that jumped to help out. I am beyond blessed. I should be able to get back on the trail soon!
I too had that problem in my Hennessey and solved it with stringing it up looser than normal.
Is it really that "satiny"?
Also, anyone find other colors?
Hahaha! I get things like that from my wife all the time!
Congrats to the winners!
seriously folks. I've sat here today as my inbox blew up. Reading words, sent by people I've never met, who want to help me out. Very humbling. :)
The way things are going, I'll be back in...
I use a 2' square piece of plastic that I trimmed out of a painting dropcloth.
lol, I did! I thought it was very timely! :)
I am humbled and floored by the generosity that you folks have shown me, a relative newcomer to this community. I'm doing my best to respond to...
This is timely! :) Thanks for the chance!
It was locked in my jeep liberty that has tinted windows. It was a lucky score for them I guess. There is no way that this will affect what we do at the church. I'm not going to close just because...
Well, my plans to head out to beautiful northern Michigan with the dog for the weekend were cut short when I headed out to the jeep after work to see the broken back window. :(
*disclaimer: ...
very interesting. But looks heavy.
For her first birthday, I put together this hammock and stand.

I had some problems in the beginning with my HH explorer deluxe. It was solved by stretching out the attachment points farther, not stringing it as tight and getting the position better. :) In...

lol@ jima... I'm no handyman, she'd definitely suspect something!
Yesterday, as part of my basement reorganization process, I hung the hammock from the rafters with some heavy rope. Worked...
I've given up on hanging on the balcony off of those poles...just rough hewn lumber facing over a pipe as was suggested earlier. :(
It was so nice though! Books like I'm a basement dweller for...
yeah, around a sharp edge, sliced right through. I'm going to check out the construction...I hope its lumber facing on a 4x4...not a pipe. If not, well looks like I'm hanging in the basement!
Well, I've been working on my setup on the balcony of our house. Two big supports, about 13'6" apart. Slept fine for a couple of nights. tonight, got in, got situated and heard a creaking...hit...
My wife is glad not to have me snoring in her ear every night now! The whole neighborhood gets to hear it!
