Yeah, I figured there would be no way to really avoid getting hit by wind. Sounds like an interesting trip. I'm considering it.

At Mt. Rogers you can "hide" a bit from the wind if you get down into the rhododendrons... what's available up on Roan as far as natural wind break? Anything?
