Hi Pertex is a good fabric for hammocks in the UK. Will keep that Yorkshire breeze out nicely. Have a search on eBay for 'PERTEX MICROLIGHT RIPSTOP FABRIC' a seller has some at a good price.

Sounds like a good plan. We did a lot of testing a couple of winters ago before heading off to French mountains. A bit of karrimat is good tobtake just incase you get some chill underneath.

Yes that could be worth a look. Savernake Forrest near Malrborough has a proper but no amenities campsite that may allow hammocks but is a Forrest Holidays site so may be funny about it.

What UK supplier did you speak to?

I have used pertex for a hammock sock and many of my hammocks are also made from pertex. It is good as a hammock sock and a nice material to work with being less slippery than some nylons.

Yes, elastic can help to gather the sides forming a better seal between hammock body and underblanket preventing warm air disappearing allowing a bit of give when rolling around etc.

No not in testing and no chance to sleep in properly, I am off at the end of the week for 7/8 nights backpacking in Wales so will have a proper test there. Hopefully by hanging just loose enough...

Very hard to get hold of in the UK, the material for the underblanket and hammock came from Thruhiker, other wise I would agree to buying the down. I suspect this would be an easier option.
