It can be a little finicky to get the poles placed just right for balance, but once you do, it's a real nice chair. The short whoopie sling on the top makes the height easy to dial in.

I'm not sure about changing the pocket angle, although I see what you're pointing out. The 45* angle puts them in line with the direction the poles have to be. The poles I'm using...
I guessing the poles only have ~1/2 your weight split between the two of them. Less than half actually. The weight from my knees down is still on the ground. I do have to be careful to place them...
