I sleep mostly on my back but when I turn on my side my shoulder/elbow that is on the hammock gets cold. I’m warm otherwise but not sure how to keep that from happening.
So I had to get up to adjust it again and watched closely and one of my Beckett hitches slid as well.
Hmmm. Not sure it was worth the weight savings.
Does anyone else have issues with the spider webbing sliding down the tree?
I’m currently hanging with my rear end a few inches off the ground because one strap always slides a few inches when I...
I'll be there.
Have to figure a way to cook something. Don't have a dutch oven but I have old school camp stoves. Have to think on it.
Super cool. I was just shopping for a knife.

Bump for chronic CBS.
Anyone have a weight on a membrane winter tarp?
Trying to compare weight savings over silpoly before I order fabric.
Thanks.
Hello from South Louisiana. You’re just a couple of hours away.
My fam tolerates my hiking hobby but much rather RV camp. Watch for the Louisiana hang in February. Won’t be too far from you.
I like 1.6 HyperD for hammocks. Feels nice, durable, inexpensive, decent weight.
Those four things determine which fabric you need.
What are you looking for?
Screwdriver got it. Thank ya!

In a fit of desperation I Becket hitched two tree straps together. Is there any trick to get them back apart?

The investment for one. I’m scared of just puffing it all over the house or it migrates and isn’t actually warm.
I’d like to make a hood, beanie or booties first.
Sierra Madre makes the puffle that does these conversions but is only 40° so won’t fit your needs.
I’ve only made apex underquilts so I don’t have much else to contribute. I’m scared of down.

Need a warmer, longer, underquilt. My jarbridge diy is not cutting it.
Thank you! [emoji3]

What stitching pattern do you use to secure the loop on tree straps?
Is it different for the light weight webbing?
Pictures appreciated. I’ve read lots of posts, I just have a hard time...
I stopped using sticks because they would hit my tarp occasionally and I was definitely concerned about damaging the tarp. Used knots ever since.

Where in the heck do you pitch your tarp to seam seal it?
My diy silpoly tarp still hasn’t been sealed because I can’t figure out what to tie it to inside and it’s hard to get a long stretch of...
Exactly what I needed. Still don’t like the idea of draping, but this makes it less scary. Thank you!

My son has always used a Yukon but has grown 5” to 5’9” since last June. I don’t think he’ll fit in the tiny Yukon but he’s adamant he has a net to keep his stuff in.
So Fronkey is out and is...
I sleep cold and can only use a partial for summer and then, I still find myself fussing with quilt trying to keep myself perfectly centered on the quilt. For me, under 60 needs to be full length. I...
I am home. Thank you so much for the good food, hospitality, and conversation. Can’t wait for the next.

Headed out last minute. Be there for supper!

I plan on being there as long as it’s not too cold!

I’m trying to squeak by with the shock cord I have.
How much unstretched shock cord is needed to go down both long channels and hook to the suspension on an 11 ft hammock?
I need either the...
Tried altering my BearButt today. Randomly chose 7” and it didn’t help much. Wrong angle as well. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180623/e4cd7b75ea6ffe1e1d8ede0859346245.heic
I could still...

How are you finishing the long raw edge on a Costco top quilt?
Is there anywhere to hang near a beach? Preferably Gulf Coast.
I’ve camped a few places along the coast but I know Katrina didn’t leave a lot of trees.
My diys are cheaper, lighter, and less bulky.
I hemmed the edges by rolling over the fabric a half inch twice. On the foot end of the hammock, I stopped and locked the stitches where I was inserting the elastic. I just threaded the elastic...
I had some in my stash and it was quick. I stitched one end down and pinned the other. Brought it outside and adjusted it and then came back in and stitched it down and closed the casing. 1/2in...
I used flat elastic for 24in starting 24in from the end of the hammock. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180415/5722c268754ff147e2dfdc21c6d82bf3.jpg
After I tried that, I added another piece...
So you’ve all echoed how I’m feeling. I’ll order the top quilt and and diy a longer, warmer under quilt for myself. With warm temps on the way, I’ll make do with what I have plus a Costco top quilt...
As I search through topics on HF, its always interesting to see the evolution of different components. It is hard to find what the consensus is, or what the current favorite idea.
I'd like to...
So I really felt like it was a math issue. It just wouldn’t fit close at the distance I was hanging. I did get a better fit the next night when I moved but had fair weather. I think the range of...
Not enough coverage. Cheap tarp. Kids stayed covered but my feet kept getting wet. Need a bigger, preferably hex for rain. Trying again tonight, no rain, just cold.

Ok. So I totally felt like if I could just pitch it off center I could be covered. I moved for tonight with slightly...
We did put drip lines which my son had put on upside down lol. I fixed them before it started raining. My feet got wet if I attempted to lay diagonally.
I got soaked. Bailed. It was never very bad but my tarp did not keep me dry.

That’s actually a third hammock. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180407/aa7f3a5b06bdc41f452d612bcfe7f06f.jpg
My suspension is quite high up the tree. I couldn’t get the ridgeline of the tarp to...
It’s just reflective line on the tarp. Webbing is on the hammock.

Hammock is 11ft
Ridgeline is 110”
Bear butt tarp? Don’t know dimensions
I’m guessing 20 ft between trees?
Trying to be close to both kids.

First hang. Two kids pitched low, very low, stayed dry. I couldn’t get my tarp ridgeline to fit across my hammock. When I moved diagonal, my feet apparently stuck out. I had water run from my feet up...
We are car camping at a primitive site. If weather were severe, we could comfortably sleep in the van with seats down. There is a loop trail and the end of a thru trail both available for hiking but...
This is essentially our “shakedown” hang. I want to do a short thru like Eagle Rock and want to make sure we have the basics handled. Filtering water, cooking, setting up camp, breaking. The car is...
Temp is 75 with a low of 41. Thunderstorms overnight Friday. I don’t want to cancel but I’m not going to risk my kids either. Have the car we can all fit in to sleep if we had to bail.
Thank you all. A friend is lending us 2 -20 degree bags so we are covered for this weekend. Have to figure out what we will use after this.

I've been an RV camper for a few years, so I've gotten away from car camping and trying to get ready for true backpacking. I need a good packing list. I keep thinking of things and writing them...
I am car camping with my kids and the temp has dropped to a low of 41. I have one 25 degree bag, an unrated Coleman bag and that’s it. Weight is not an issue as we aren’t hiking. I was so wrapped up...
