I'm a dude...lol. Always been a light butt :P
Woa... never expected it to make that much difference... now i have even more to try out.
Interesting. I guess I'll have to try a shorter one AND a longer one. Hehe I'm a bit addicted... I have some extra ripstop laying around too.
You said gather style can change the feel. How so?
I must have remembered length wrong. I was thinking longer would be nicer for me. Ive heard short hammocks can be very comfortable too.
How does the length of a hammock change the hang "feel" and comfort? Ive seen hammocks from 7' to 13'
I have an 11'ish eno doublenest and am wondering what length I shoud go for on a new hammock....
My thoughts: if im going to have to go to ground (hammock rips or suspension breaks) ill be putting down my plastic bag (contractor bag) and laying my extra clothes flatly in my pack. Then my pack...
I think dutch sells loop turners. Grab one with your next dutch puchase or the purchase after that one...or the purchase after that........ can't stop giving him my monies :D
Mah gawd, dutchware wins again! He has exactly what I was looking for on his site. Go figure.
I want to add a tieout to the middle of each side of my tarp (9x11 nylon). Is there a good way of doing this without sewing and then having to reseal my tarp?
Thanks for the info. Did a little lookin, itd cost me as much for this (with the cost of the new waist belt included) as it would for a new one. Great deal for someone who isnt a twig tho
Are the hip belts permanently attached?
Poo! Im a 30" waist. Would it be easily diyable to fit?
What size is it and does it have the upgraded waist belt?
I use a square tarp, so idk if a non-continuous would work. Thx for the video.
Awesome. It almost is like a mix between the butterfly knot and the taughtline hitch. Kinda cool
Ahh. I may give that a try. A prussic knot is just a continuous loop with a multiple-wrap larkshead right?
Whats the point of a crl if it is over the tarp? Doesnt the tarp sag?
I doubt you will have regrets with an uq. I did the pad thing for a while. It was ok, but not snuggly like an underquilt. A uq/tq is like having a soft, cozy duvet on top of you...AND under you. So...
I just bought some zing-it, a dutch hook, and a stringerz. I made an ultimate-hang style continuous ridgeline(...
I believe it is called the yacht knot or similar. Ive been trying the figure 8 method which works well. Just do a figure 8 between thumb and pinky (or whatever is comfortable)

:D
Now I gotta figure out how to cut straighter edges haha. (Im not THAT bad, just takes me a while)
Id assume sewing across the hammock would weaken it... idk how much though. Depends on needle size, etc. It essebtially makes your hammock like perforated easy-tear paper :D
I make one from an old sleeping bag. Didnt like it though, I couldn't sleep on an angle so I had to stretch the hammock real tight (thank God for the massive trees here in the northwest)
Welcome from Seattle!
Ill take the emberlit
Exactly what I was picturing :D
Maybe take some different color strips and see together for rainbow? (Sorta like eno hammocks)
Nice! Would be a great uq for those days that area juuuust barely too cold to hang.
Learn better knots and wrapping patterns, rubber bands, binder clips, better knots, wind around a small piece of foam, or learn better knots! Knots are cool
Eno double nest is serving me well... but it is a bit pricey for the quality. I'd suggest dutch's hammocks. He is a boss :)
The only downside to the space blankets is they tear. And shred. Just dont touch it and you are fine. Or look at it funny.
Binder clips! Of course! I use em all the time to hold stuff (paper, thermocouples, specimens, etc) at work. Definitely doin this for pins that wont get a lot of stress while sewing.
Hammocks are definitely easier. Straight hem, gather ends, hang. Very simple. I started diy with no knowledge of sewing and made an ul backpacking pack. Somehow remembered how to operate a sewing...
Woa... real UL solution! No bent stakes, replacable, affordable, and plastic bags can be used for soooo many things in the woods. Awesome idea!
There are SO many sleeping bags and pillows and comforters out there that say 100% goose down in the title but say synthetic filled in description.
Wow! Looks really comfy. I like the spreader bar idea. Seems like it will keep some of the slack from drooping on you
I love the idea of a clear tarp. You can sleep under the stars without getting dewed on
Made an ul hiking backpack. Unless you count the countless hours of research I did to build the best alcohol stove :D. The pack looks great, just needs some suspension work so it doesnt destroy my...
Thats what I love about these forums. People really focus on thing here... hammocking. Not trying to advertise their startup buisness or whatever
I normally struggle with it for a few then end up stuffing a bit. Now I learned to fold/roll tarp before snake skinning. Though now that I'm moving to a continuous ridgeline tarp, ill be using a...
Dutchware all day erry day :D
Awesome, thanks for the input. Ive hung a few times like this and didnt have a ton of issues, but sag was a thing and it sealed against my hammock sides and caused condensation issues. I just bought...
"Early in the morning" I was on lunch break. Graveyard shift haha.
1) there is no best way. As we say HYOH or hang your own hammock. Everyone likes different methods. Personally I prefer the...
Personally I pack my hammock with my uq in a snakeskin and then stuff. Maybe I should do it with my top quilt too! Then id hang my tarp then my hammock-uq-tq. Thanks for the idea!
Welcome from Seattle! The more you become a part of this community, the more you will realise how nice everyone is! It is a vast vault of knowledge and people really help each other out. Im fairly...
Welcome to hf! As an Eagle, Im glad to see more hammocks being used in scouting. Very "leave no trace" if done right.
Woa... I drive a Subaru loyal and love Subaru cars. Never seen that one before! Maybe it isn't available in the U.S. or something
Hahaha well said. I have a square dry spot tho
Hello from Seattle! If you are ever in town going out on a trip, feel free to not try "Seattle's best coffee" definitely a misnomer ;)
Well... good to know! I woulda used a larkshead knot.
