Great pics. I just received my roll of polycryo and I'm still trying to decide what shape I want to make. I'm leaning towards making one with doors, as the weight is not really a factor with this...
I used one of these for awhile, as I already had it laying around the house. Costs $1, has plenty of light, clips to your ridgeline, and the battery lasts pretty much forever (I've got at least 30...
I've been playing with tie-out on the bottom of my hammock for my UQ. All of the UQs I've seen have ingenious methods of adjusting to different sized hammocks and hammockers. I think there is room...
Beautiful pic. Upstate NY is one of my favorite spots, nice to see you out there enjoying it.
Excellent point about the whoopies, DemostiX and one I think worthy of some additional consideration. In the interest of keeping this thread as on-topic as still possible, I opened a new thread with...
Demostix raised an interesting point about excessive suspension in the tech line suspension thread and I wanted to bring up another point here without taking that tread too far off-topic.
His...
Welcome from another Michigander. Traverse City is a great area for hanging, I'd be out every weekend if I lived up there :)
How big is the tree in your yard? We have a lot of very large old trees around here and I've seen people hang using the trunk + a branch for suspension. If you have one long, solid branch that...
Thanks for sharing. I haven't seen that product before and I really like the concept.
If you whip it so that the edges of the hammock point towards the ground, it helps to prevent the cocoon effect. If you were looking straight at the gathered end of the hammock, it would look like...
Second the Permethrin. I treat my gear once a year and it lasts and lasts. I don't know anyone who needs to treats their gear every 42 days as mentioned earlier. I imagagine the manufacturer has...
Nice work! I've been thinking of doing something similar on the outside of my hammock for my UQ. I like the adhesive patches, you'll have to report back on how well this holds up long term.
Nice setup, I like the reinforced mount. You'll wear through your hammock before that ever wears out.
Welcome from Michigan. Don't worry about the information overload, just take it one step at a time and pretty soon you'll get the hang of things :)
Welcome from Michigan, glad you registered. I was a lurker here for a long time, too, before recently registering.
Second the cheap tow straps from WM of HF. You want to look for poly straps rather than nylon as the nylon straps will stretch.
I'm not in the UK, but I have friends there who have enjoyed the Coast to Coast walk. Pilgrims' Way is meant to be nice, too.
What did you use to chemically blacken the bottom of these?
Have you measured you trunk? Would it fit a couple of 4' pipes? I think there are some good ideas here, but without the actual dimensions, it's tough to really say.
Looks like a great trip, congrats on 41 years!
Congratulations on your first night and for many more to come!
Thanks, crash, something new to worry about. I'm thick in deer country and this is probably something worth giving some consideration about when choosing a location.
We do have bears in Northern...
You should also note the minimum quantity on those: 10 pieces of 500M dyneema is a bit much unless you're doing spearfishing tours.
I've also considered

I've had over 300lbs in mine with plenty of bouncing and swinging with no signs whatsoever of the material stressing or breaking. Your setup should be just fine.
Welcome to the forum!
If woodworking is what you do and your wife took the time to hand knot a full hammock, you'll probably want to make something nice like this or this.
Be sure to post pics...
I just did support duty at the national 24 hour challenge and brought along the hammock. I can tell you, the tours are a lot easier in the hammock than in the saddle! Good luck!
I ordered a roll from Ace Hardware through Amazon as my local store didn't have any. I'm looking forward to hearing about your field tests, Kapang! In this heat, I'd be a worried about it acting...
Greetings from MI! Looks like you're all set to do it right this time around :)
I've become a more avid camper now that I'm in a hammock, it's easier to camp when you know the most uncomfortable part of your day will be on the trail instead of in a sleeping bag.
Welcome from MI! I know what those bugs can be like. When you're sleeping in a hammock, you can still hear them buzzing through the fabric. It's hard to imagine, but it sounds just like they were...
Welcome from MI. You're going to like that hammock when it arrives. My friend has the JRB bridge and it sure is cozy.
That's a great looking hammock and an excellent use of materials on hand. And it looks like your creation might be converting an impressionable would-be tenter into a happy hammocker!
That would be an interesting piece of gear but as zukiguy mentioned, you need to figure out the waterproofing aspect. Maybe you could do a tarp/bivybag combo plus a separate hammock/shelter item.
Apart from the very good points Demostix mentioned, another concern is how you're connecting the tech line to your hammock. I have amsteel lark's headed over the whipped ends of my hammock. I would...
Great find, I'll have to check the local dollar store.
It should be plenty strong enough; I've had well over 300lbs on mine and I've read of others on here using it well beyond that.
Welcome aboard! Sounds like you've got a nice setup and some good insulation should round that out nicely (although it's probably a little hard to think about insulation in this 100 degree heat)
Great tips, Doc. Now I just need to find an ocean around here!
You're fine connecting a SRL directly to the descending ring.
7/64 amsteel is fine but it's definitely overkill for a ridgeline; if you want to go a bit lighter, grab some zing-it or the 1.9 tech...
I have a 90x156 piece of taffeta en route that I'd like to try using as a two person hammock-couch in my TV room. I'm planning to hang it parallel to the wall with the TV so we can recline...
It's great to have found outdoor sleeping arrangements that are even better than sleeping in my own bed. Makes me want to get out and camp more, just have to wait for this heat wave to break!
Good luck!
Welcome to the club. Great pic, looks like a very comfortable setup.

Agreed, this is a great community and possibly one of the friendliest forums of this size anywhere on the internet.
With whoopies and shock cord tie-outs, my 1.1 DL weighs in at 24oz.
I just made a DL 1.1 with materials from DIY Gear Supply. Total cost was $80 for nylon, bugnet, zipper, webbing, grossgrain, amsteel for whoopies, shock cord, etc (ie, I bought more stuff than I...
I'm wondering the same thing.
I made a No Sew PLUQ, and it works okay on my DIY WBBB (thanks for the great writeup, Hunt). Right now I have it suspended pretty close to the foot end, but the...
Neat idea, a top-entry bug sock.
Regarding the inner flap: since it's hanging straight down from the opening, couldn't you just push it back outside once you're in the hammock? In a perfect...
