I wanted to post this for maximum exposure. Hopefully I have selected the correct forum to do so. If not, I ask the administrators to do so. I sent my HHULB to 2QZQ for the hammock modification #3....
I am thinking about having the 2QZQ full length zipper mod done on my HHULB. I wanted to solicit the opinion of those who have had their HH's modified in this manner. I was thinking about having the...
Anyone hike Neel's Gap to Spring Mountain lately? What is the water availability like?
Had a Byer Mosquitoe. They suck because of all the reasons previously listed. Don't waste your money, get a Travel Hammock Skeeter Beater if you want an integrated bug net. Or just buy their Ultra...
I use the SS and have found it to have a limited temperature range without adding additional bulky OCF insulation. I haven't use a space blanket with it though. My main issue is that when you spread...
Good idea. Like the saving money part.
I use the HH ULB. I wouldn't be too concerned about tree size, just so it is alive. I have seen cars wrapped around trees that were around 6" in diameter. Smaller trees may sway a bit more in the...
I have a few questions about the spreader bars. Do you have to use them, or can you use a single structural ridgeline to support the bug net? If you use spreader bars, how long are they? Do spreader...
I like the bottom entry, I tend to flip mt top loaders on occasion, not the HH.
I have been looking at the skeeterbeater. Is it the same as the ultralight with a bug net added? Is the zipper on one or both sides? By the way, I use, and like the stock rope, just added tree...
I have the same hammock. Went to Wmart bought a couple of 6ft dog leashes to use as tree huggers and added a 100" structural ridgline.
HH best hammock for me also.
Check out a Necky Manitou Sport. It is a 12 foot boat. It is a hybrid design which places it inbetween a rec. kayak and a touring kayak. I use it on the New River and in big lakes. Cost around $600,...
What is your opinion on the skeeterbeater? Is it similiar to the travel hammock? I like the travel hammock. Does it have a net zipper on both sides?
The Travel Hammock has a mosquitoe model. It looks similiar to the Byer model, but has only one support line on each end. I have the ultralight model which works well, but has no net.
Yes. I got it because it was inexpensive. Stretches and distorts over time. Ropes tangled and eventually came out of the knot. Worthless in my opinion.
Google travel hammock
Search "hammock" or "tarp" in the picture gallery and you can see the difference between a rectangular tarp and a square tarp deployed like a diamond.
What a coincidence. The weekend before I was in the Mackey Mountain Wild Area with a friend, who is a ground dweller. It rained all night Saturday night. I stayed dry in my HH ULBP with my guide gear...
I noticed from your pictures that you cut at the seam. Do you get enough coverage on the sides? Let's say 35-45 degrees raining and windy. I was thinking that if I still get enough cover on the sides...
The flap isn't under any pressure. The corner is just lifted up and attached to the inside of the tarp. The velcro wouldn't stick to the tarp.
I also brought the 2 corners to the center underneath...
Have you tried this yet? I tried with velcro, couldn't get the industrial strength velcro tabs to stick to the tarp. I don't sew. Anyone have any recommendations on a type of adhesive that would...
I hang a square tarp because you don't have as much tarp surface near the ground. This becomes a problem if there is a lot of underbrush to interfere with a rectangular tarp. I have found that a...
What do you mean " it also doesn't curl up"? Does it allow your knees to bend? The bottom folding is a definite plus.
I am considering using a SPE in a HH ULBP. Does anyone here use this set-up or similiar? I am looking for feedback from those who use a bottom loading hammock. In your opinion what are the positives...
Did you maintain the original length of the ridgeline? How? You said you use a biner to re-attach the ridgline, what kind of knots to you use to attach the ridgeline to the biner. Does the hammock...
How much does the ENO Guardian weigh after removal of the straps and stuff sack?
I am looking at purchasing the bugnet from ENO,(guardian), or possibly one from Hammock Bliss. Does anyone have any experience with either of these? What are your opinions, both positive and negative?
I like the clove hitch recommendation. I plan to use it. Thanks. What is the purpose of the carabiner through the tree hugger loops? Reduce abrasion?
Here is a simple way to use rings to center your hammock. I don't know if there is another post like this, but this is what I do. It only requires 2 rings, no modification to the hammock and the...
What I meant by the 3/4 CCF pad was length of the pad. It is one of those blue pads from W-Mart. It covers froms shoulders to butt, extra insulation where you need it most. The OCF pad packs down to...
I didn't vote. My category wasn't there. I use the SS. Never used an underquilt. The original SS underpad did not keep me warm and is too narrow. I use an OCF bedding pad from Wallyworld. I cut it to...
I use the snakeskins on the hammock, very useful product. I agree that the water bottle tensioners are a little gimmicky, just more crap to carry and mess with. Why not just fill up the bottles and...
[QUOTE=BillyBob58;28432]Here comes the lonely voice again re: SuperShelter.
You are never truly alone. I use the SS, but I don't use the original pad. I use one that is 1" thick and wider all...
Why does it matter who camps/hikes where, when, with whom or with what? Just HYOH. I usually visit this site for good information, guess I'll just have to start using the "mark all forums read"...
Entering through the bottom slit in a HH is simple, I have never flipped it while entering like I have my top loading travel hammock. Though the travel hammock has that beer bottle pocket sewn to...
Hennessy, ultra light backpacker model and SS, have no plans to change unless I can manage to get my hands on a "Bridgeskin". HH is the best turn key solution on the market. I have a travel hammock,...
I'm serious about buying one. If not, with directions maybe I can pay someone local to make it for me.
How much would you charge to make one for me? I am hopeless with a sewing machine.
I have one, $20 campmor. Definitly worth $20. Probably a little short for those 6ft and up.
The only question I have, is, did Albert Einstien really make such a quote about Buddhism? I think that that was BS. He was a mathematician not a philosopher. Jeanette, please direct me to the...
Just a statement that they were new to the site with a supposed quote from Albert Einstien on Buhdist philosophy.
i just bought this a few months ago:http://www.rei.com/product/745064
I only need a thermometer to provide me with the low temp experienced at night. I would probably only view it once I got up in...
Why not, for the sake of simplicity, just preload the hammock with the side tie outs.
What about the side tie outs for the tarp? If you pull the tarp down from the top wouldn't it cause slack in the sides?
I use the HH undercover, which is silnylon just like the stock tarp. I have never experienced any condensation issues from below freezing and up at various elevations throughout western NC. Even when...
