Love seeing those pictures & vids. I've got 2 or 3 I should have up by tomorrow.
I try to use as few stakes as possible, as long as I can find trees, limbs, roots, etc to tie off to. But that's more of a challenge in those conditions because you want be more specific about angles...
Report thread here...
Just got home. Great hang!! Great people & great food.
When someone gets rested enough, I'm sure they will start to tell about it & post pictures under "Trip Reports".
Dorry to hear that Jim. Hope to meet you guys at another hang.
Yes, Marcia & the rest are the best park Rangers I've ever met!!!
We'll miss you too Scott. I think we could probably go ahead & name a date for next year.
I'll bring plastic forks, spoons & knifes, as well as some extras on the other stuff.
I love it when I hear owls. But when I go to sleep, I usually don't wake wake up.
Hey, are there paper plates, bowls & plastic forks, etc being brought?
I'll look again at the spread sheet & plan...
The Fall Festival has become my favorite group hang for a number of reasons... good friends (new & old), beautiful place, mild weather & of course the festival with all it has to offer....
We'll sure miss you but more sorry to hear about your Moms troubles. Praying that things will go well there.
Man, sure sorry to hear that. Was looking forward to seeing you guys again.
Maybe you can make it to the Fall Festival Hang at GHSP this year.
Was also looking forward to showing my first beard...
Thanks to you Marcia & all the others! Look forward to seeing you in camp.
I'll be bringing a 20' x 30' tarp that we hang really high over the fire pit. But if the combination of cold/wind increases, we may decide to put up a tarp wall, or two.
No, it was in my food box, munching on a cracker:scared:
Here is the 24 hour video view of the office parking lot view.
No snow as of now.
And the weather conditions at the same location....
I found it Hickery. I'll bring it with me.
It'll be good to see you again maztrain.
Well we appreciate the offer anyway!
I'd love to be there when you explain to them that you & the others will be sleeping in hammocks:scared: that is assuming the instructor is one of those not...

Ranger Marcia has been out of town but I got an email from her today saying we would have...
Keep thinking my friend. Sure would be good to have you there.
I'm sure with what you have & maybe a loner or two you could stay comfy.
I have found more challenge in staying warm standing &...
Just a thought... all that peach cobbler & other fine cooking sounds great but be sure to be organized with everything needed & keep it as simple as possible.

Clay, the cooler for keeping things from freezing is an effective way to go.You could even have a smaller one beside your hammock with extra drinking water & a hot water bottle.
If anyone has...
Looks like it got down to -6f last night at the park weather station (at the park office).
I wonder how much colder & winder it was up on Wilbern Ridge:scared:
Mongo like beans!
Them some of the best I've had!!!
Hey, glad to hear it Cakes!
Come on Tracy. You've done the winter hang with us before.
Thanks Shug. I'm looking at winter tarps now, getting ready to buy one.
I'm going to go with a 12' ridge line because of the hammock I use.
I've found at least two ready available... the JRB...
If you don't have a snow shovel, a long handle square nose shovel works good too.
I like the long handle because if you were to get your car into some deep snow it makes it easy to remove snow pack...
Thoughts on the old debate about changing into clean, dry clothes (even base layers) before going to bed.
I know a lot of folks swear by doing this & in some cases that may be needed.
The ice chest suggestion is good. If it's really cold you can keep drinking water from freezing.
Also, anything else that you don't want frozen solid. Foods & batteries are a couple things that come...
I don't see the big aluminum pot I took to heat water by the fire the last of these winter hangs I made.
I'm thinking that it may have developed a hole from the heat (cheap pot).
But I have one...

Hot water bottles are great when you go to bed or just sitting & standing around.
Nalgne bottles are good but I have used empty gatoraid bottles.
But personally, I wouldn't care to use any plastic...
Payment received from BuckeyePaddeler. Tarp is on it's way to PO.
BuckeyePaddler PMed me last night saying he would be able to access his computer today & send the money to me by Pay Pal.
It worked for me just now, Give it another try.
Yep, you are right.
My apologies for not re-reading the rules & paying closer attention.
I PMed the guy who sent the PM w/o posting "I'll buy it" to apologize & let him know.
You may be right. Even though the other guy posted he had sent a PM, BuckeyePaddler was the 1st to post "I'll take it".
I'll look into it. Thanks.
seionage was the first to reply so I'm waiting for him to get back to me.
next was BuckeyePaddler, then BackpackerGuy.
I miss those days too Pan.
Miss you & Smee at the winter hang too.
I went back to the WB page & enlarged it.
What I thought was 110" was actually 11'... duh.
Goina have to get my eyes checked again:rolleyes:
You guys are right about the length being 132" or 11'.
If I'm not mistaken it says 110" on the war Bonnet page. I'll let Brandon know.
But I stung it out again over my hammock (in the bed room) &...
