I am interested as well. My gear is somewhat limited, so I will have to wait and see what the temps look like for that weekend.

Thanks for the info. From what I can find, CR306/Cottonwood Pass is closed at Avalanche TH. Our plan is to take CR350 out of Buena Vista to North Cottonwood Creek TH.

Chiming in to see if there has been a date set for this. I might be interested if timing works out.
A friend and I are planning a trip to climb Mount Harvard and Mount Columbia next month. Our plan is to base camp along Cottonwood Creek or Horn Fork Creek, SSW of Mount Columbia, along the trail...
Well, crap. Of course I just posted last night that I would be there, but some stuff has come up and I won't be able to make it this time. Have fun and be careful out there. Disappointed that I won't...
Sorry for the radio silence. I've been off the forums for a week or so and came back to 54 replies on this thread! I plan to come down Friday afternoon/evening. Forecast for here in Farmington shows...
I grabbed this info off the Ozark Trail website. Go to ozarktrail.com if you need specific driving directions. Otherwise, you can use the coords below.
Hwy A Trailhead
Highway A Trailhead....
We'll be meeting at the Hwy A trailhead Friday and camping there nearby Friday night. Ottery Creek is right there as well for water, so easy peasy for Saturday before we head up the mountain. Looking...
I've always heard that folding a tarp or tent was really hard on it, much like folding paper over and over. It stretches the outside layers. Stuffing is what I do.

A truly sad day for any Shug fan! I remember watching this and having my heart break for ole Shug. Just tragic.

The only outrage from me would be if you don't share! ;)
I haven't made a stand, per se, but I did concrete in two 6x6's in my back yard to hang on.

The first few sets of whoopies I made, I didn't have any beads. I cut a small piece (about 3/8") of surgical tubing from some I had left over from a DIY gravity filter hose. It worked fine and has...
Loose fabric will flap in the breeze and can be an annoyance. Cat cuts aren't a necessity, but sure make a silnylon tarp a better tarp.

I just went through there on a 3 day trip over this past weekend. There are some really great looking places to hang in the cedars just on the south side of the trail head, Ottery Creek is right...
This was sunrise on 11-5-16 from under my tarp at Bell Mountain. My first hang for this challenge.

Maybe stay with the hammock theme and do tiger stripped banana hammock! ;)
Good looking stuff! Nice work DIYguy
Hmmmm..... let's take one of the lightest quilts out there and make it lighter! I have an Enigma 50 r/r that I absolutely love. I have really been bumming during the BF sale as I want a low temp...
True story- when I was a kid we lived in McKenzie, not far from both you guys. Granted it was only for a year. Would've been about 1982.

Welcome from SE MO, not to far away. There is a fella in your neck of the woods (Medina, TN) that goes by the handle Loner. He is coming up our way for a winter group hang in January. Don't know if...
I may come out Friday evening as well. Two nights are certainly better than one!

Almost everything I own is DIY. That being said, the only quilt I've made is a synthetic under quilt. I typically use a sleeping bag as a quilt on top. It works fine. I'm not saying that it is the...
Keep an eye on temps. You never know, the last few winters have been much warmer than normal. Might just make it easy for everyone.

I hope we have snow! Then I could try my hand at melting snow for water. Actually that would be a blessing as the water sources are so far away from the top. This will be a great hang! I have a...
I am in! Really looking forward to getting back out with the HF peeps. I had my first trip to Bell just a couple weeks ago and it was great. I'm sure this will be a blast (and I must say that...
I'm all about it! Looking forward to hearing what your thoughts are on dates. It unfortunately is getting to that busy time of year.
I didn't figure you carried a JIC pad. Had never seen anything like that in your vids. Good idea on the white noise. I may have to try that.

Always a treat to see another Shug video up. Thankee sir!
A few questions: if you were forced to go to ground on a trip, what would you have underneath you? Do you normally carry a pad just in...
I can't remember what was my first DIY, but I think it was my Ray-Way pack. Weighs 9.5oz and works great. Since then I've done another pack for my wife, probably a dozen hammocks, two tarps, an UQ,...
I use a blue tarp and have never had any bees, bugs or birds seem to be overly interested in it.
Same for me. I voted "After first frost", but less than 50F I haven't had bug issues here in Missouri.
:shades:
Soul Embrace- glad to hear you got a night out. What has been your issue sleeping in the backyard before tonight? I had some issues when I've tried that as well. Mine was noise as I live in town and...
I just stumbled across this thread, but I think it is way cool. I plan on making this a personal goal over 2017. Stay tuned for updates and I can't wait!
It has been awhile since I signed in to the forum and I hate to see that I missed the group hang this past weekend, however it looks like a good time was had by all. On the bright side, I WAS out in...
Subscribing to this thread. Not sure if I can make 8/20-21, but hoping to. It has been WAY TOOOOOOO long since I got out in my hammock and I aim to remedy that this fall.
Gideon- if you end up...
Yeah, I am out for this weekend. Sorry fellas. Be safe out there. As Skygzr pointed out, conditions will be brutal.
Welcome from down the road in Farmington. Keep your eyes on the Midwest hangs thread. There seem to be regular hangs popping up close by.
I know I am the OP, but I am now a maybe on this one. I will firm up with you later this week.
It is trail journals. Here is a link- http://www.trailjournals.com
In the middle of the page is a search. Type in Awesome and you will find his journal.
If I lived in Oregon, and I plan to one day, I would be all over this. Maybe in about 4-5 years. Have fun!

Odd they would make a down/synthetic hybrid. And the Chinook….I consider myself man enough for a lot of things, but I'm not sure I could do periwinkle/indigo. Just saying. :)
I've had a nasty cold over the last two weeks and hadn't taken the time to get out in my hammock. Cold air and chest congestion don't mix well. Feeling better, yesterday afternoon I went out to the...
Sounds great! The more the merrier. For those that don't want to hike, the Berryman camp is a great spot to car camp.
Just a few have replied. Anyone else interested in this one?
Welcome and enjoy! Any time spent in the woods is good. :)
The only times I have had feet too hot has been in the back yard when I use that cheap Faded Glory coat that weighs more than 2lbs (too much to carry on the trail). On the contrary, I usually have...
Welcome! Pretty pics and glad to see you spending time in the woods. Keep swingin'. :)
Sounds like a great time! I have a lot of things going on this year, so I will have to wait and see, but I hope to make this one.
