I know there was a lot of work before but I really miss the other camping gear. I have found myself less interested in going to the for sale forum. I have found that I visit the site less than I...
That is great. I love the all in one idea just never seems to workout. The only thing I can see as an issue here is if your trees get too close.
Nice
+1 on Fleabay I got a set of .344 ultralights for $14. I got enough poles for two pole mods.
I am right there with you. I have several tarps that I bought so I could have different tarps for different season/conditions. I NEVER use anything but my superfly. I rotate through hammocks...
+1 This is exactly what I was going to say
I only moved to an over the tarp setup when I had a little water get under the tarp running down the ridgeline. It really didn't make any noticeable difference. I have always used a continous ridge...
This is the stuff. http://www.bonide.com/products/product.php?category_id=573&sku=573
It is .50% permethrin and water based.
I have found a permethrin option from bonide it is meant to be a luggage treatment for bed bugs. Same concentration as sawyers less than half the cost. I got a gallon last fall when garden stuff...
I have four extra guylines that I can larks head to my exsisting lines if I want/need longer. Having the shorter lines attached to the tarp makes packing it up a little less of a hassle
I know I have it saved somewhere but for the life of me I can not find it. I am betting it is on the hard drive from my old laptop. I have an enclosure to put it in setting on a self waiting to turn...
Using a sock or an underquilt protector will add some extra degrees to any setup for very little weight.
Welcome to the madness! start looking for a used "thread injector" now so you can start building gear for the family.
I was thinking about changing the suspension on my wbbb to make the straps removable. Could I use the same continuous loops that come on the blackbird and the same traps just take the stock buckles...
Great fix. I use an inflatable sit pad in mine, no so much for calf ridge, I use a 3/4 length pad. That small pad will add a little warmth for you.
BWCA is where the "hammock thing", as my wife likes to refer to it, all started. We had too many tents and not enough spots for tents. I ended up with roots, rocks, and a slope. I had no netting...
My boy has been coming up to the bwca for the last four years and sleeping in a hammock. I had him sleeping on a prolite short pad inside his sleeping bag. It has worked well. This year I made myself...
Epically cool.
I too would like to know.
I am good down to mid 50's with mine. I can tell you from experience that the pluq is more difficult to get adjusted than a commercially available quilt. I have found that it needs to be pretty...
I felt the exact same way. I was looking for a bug net to go over my hammock when I found this place. That was well over a year ago and not to mention $$$ that was spent on trying things and...
I clicked on this thread thinking how on earth could you have snapped a whoopie. Crazy strong that stuff.
Does it come with the crossbars?
When my brother did his first tarp we used a string. We didn't trace as much as make dots with a sharpie every centimeter or so. Worked out pretty good. I should probably add that we hung the tarp...
I actually have one hammock out of my four that has a lefty "feels better" lay. I have always thought of posting a similar question about it. I Sleep righty in three of my hammocks but lefty in the...
I have lobbied for that in the past. I think everyone agrees that it is at least a little helpful when buying or pricing gear. The problem is that it is not a rule and nobody reminds people.
I would say that how "warm" you are would also play a big part in it. I have noticed that cold sleepers, people who feel cold at higher temps prefer the full length quilts more often than warm...
Ha!! Funny looking at it like that.
Second dibs.
How "handy" are you? you could make sewen ponho liner under quilt that would be 3 season. If you are looking to buy a cheap underquilt I have a jarbidge from kickass that I would highly recomend. ...
I had whoopies on the first camping hammock if bought off of a member. I liked them and never had any troubles with them. I bought a wbbb and it had buckles. I had planned on taking off the straps...
I just thought of something. On my sons hammock I use the tiny little s-biners from the nite-ize keychain. I use this on his hammock because he seems to miss the hammock and end up in the under quilt...
The local runnings has a bin of them for $1 a piece. Not sure how small you want them but it is what I use. Not sure if it is something that all stores have but it might be worth a...
I think I would be more worried about the fabric of the hammock body than the suspension. I have read more posts about the body letting go than the suspension.
Out of curiosity do you have your pack already and want to make sure you have room or are you weighing the cost/size ratio?
Great stuff man!!
i am an earplug wearer so I dont worry to much about snorers.
Dang it. That was quick. I got second dibs.
I watched eBay. Ended up with 5 of them for $35 delivered. It did take me a few weeks of watching and bidding to win an auction for what I was willing to pay.
Looks like it turned out wonderful. Good job and keep us posted when you get that wbrr out for its first trip.
Yeah. I looked at them. I guess I'm not sure of what I am looking at the picture with the tip also shows shock cord. Does the cord go all the way through to the tips? I have been lucky I guess I...
I bought a set of these as well still haven't got the ends off. Are they press fit ends or is the cord tied to them. It looks above like the cord is only between poles not end to end.
Neat idea reduces the distance of the anchor points and keeps the proper sag. Just make sure you don't grasp that bar while in the hammock. What kind of rope in that, it looks like climbing rope? If...
Lash-it is plenty strong
Congrats. The superfly was not my first tarp but it is the only one I use now.
I bought this same set. I still haven't got any of the ends to come out. They are nice poles. A couple of the ends showed some oxidation but nothing major and not the reason the ends won't come out.
I wouldn't have a problem leaving them in except I would like to use the shock cord to keep them together. I don't see any indents holding them in. Since I have to cut one pole for each end of the...
Probably a stupid question.. How do I remove the ends from these poles? I bought a set off eBay and was going to do my pole mod today. No school because of weather. I tried pulling them straight out...
I have my hammock setup in my gear room at a slight angle, window was in the way to go straight across. I have the attachments 48" off the floor I used the hang calculator from the ultimate hang. I...
I have a wbbb 1.7 double layer. I tried a pro lite thermarest this summer just to try it. Like someone above said it works but not a lot of room to move around. I flop around when I sleep and I...
How did you have the asym tarp rigged? If you had it attached to your hammock suspension using the little mitten hooks this was your weak link. I think about any of the "hammock tarps" used around...
