Hello fellow hangers,
It's that time to clean out the gear closet. Up for grabs are 3 DIY summer underquilts, a Hennessy Hex tarp with snake skins, a 7x9 WX Tex Tarp, a Big Agnes Lost Ranger, and...
I am in the market for a cuben fiber tarp for my upcoming AT thru hike. Placed an order back at the beginning of March with hammock gear, and contacted them a few days ago to see if they had an idea...
Looks beautiful! Making some argon topquilts myself. Thanks for the report
No bullets to shoot here. I have done this before and it worked well for me. I sewed the ends separate ends first, then lines up and sewed the folded end.
Always double tap. But I'm glad I saw this. This tarp is amazing
Whether you buy into it or not, shifting down around for comfort is effective. Especially in hammock camping. I can shift down from portions of the quilt that overlap with my UQ, to portions that...
Does anyone know what the recommended weight limit is on this 1.0 hyper d? I want to go ultralight, but I'm worried about durability. Especially since I am planning on using this hammock for a thru...
Welcome from GA! Plenty of great places to hang in NC, love that state.
Welcome from Georgia!
Welcome from GA!
Hello from GA! Boy I'm glad I can avoid those minus 30 temps. Check out some of shugs winter hammocking videos on YouTube. Some great advice there
I'm sure you will stay toasty warm in that thing. Have a great trip! Let us know how it goes
Welcome from GA! There is much to learn here
Nice choice! I really like climashield UQs. A good quilt to use in wet and humid weather
This sounds great. I have never used this before and so ill try it on my next tarp. Thanks for the info!
Awesome customer service!
As others have said, check out the cottage guys! Welcome to the forums
Wow! I have never seen an IR camera used on a hammock/ underquilt set up. That's definitely a great way to find out where heat is escaping. Awesome photos
I have used both climashield top quilts and underquilts without quilting lines and have found them to be durable and very warm for the weight. I have an EE prodigy and DIY climashield UQ and both...
Welcome from GA!
And here I was just about to put in an order. What luck!
Thanks for the breakdown. This is really helpful stuff !
Looks warm! I like those colors. Looks great

Hello from the USA, and welcome. You'll find plenty of folks interested in wilderness, camping, and bushcraft here
Ah ok that makes sense. Had me worried for a second
You will be about a month ahead of me, but there will be a good many thru hikers that will keep you company. Good luck! Keep us updated!
I agree here with using soft shackles or small biners. The whoopie hooks have a small circular shape in the hook that really allows the Amsteel to pop right in there and stay in there. Adding another...
I'm not the original poster, but i believe they used 1.1 sil poly from ripstop by the roll.com. I've only heard great stuff about the material so far.
What made you discontinue the whoopie hooks? Just wondering as I recently placed a set on my suspension.
That is awesome! I'm sure they are having a blast. Sometimes my GF and I hang ours in bunk mode on clear nights. It's a great way to save space and stay close.
I think it would definitely work. You could even use part of the trailer as a suspension point for the hammock, only requiring you to find and park close to one tree. I've hung my hammock up inside a...
Welcome from GA
Now that is a slick looking set up. I am a fan of that camo pattern.
That color looked familiar. I have 8 yards on the way to make my own tarp. Hope it turns at as well yours did!
I've had great luck using wire used to suspend drop ceilings. Pretty cheap at the hardware store for a large spool. It also works great when you are running cord through end channels on quilts.
If you are interested in making tarp suspension a lot easier, I would suggest looking into some Dutchware gear
Welcome from Dawson! Thanks for all you do on the trail. I love the solitude of the BMT
