Welcome from Utah. I motorcycle camp a lot, and one of the best pieces of equipment, in addition to a good topquilt/underquilt, is the Tensa4 stand. The Tensa4 will really help open up your...

In addition to the great advice offered by the others, something I try to abide by personally is to have a low threshold for any kind of potential safety issue. For example, not able to get warm...

Thanks for sharing that. Those are the adventures that stick in our head later on. I had a similar trip once with a new tarp that had been packed away for almost a year before I actually used it....

I like a continuous ridgeline, and use it on all my tarps. I did make a change recently on cordage and connections though. I was using the DW continuous ridgeline (1.75 yellow zing-it, Dutch hook,...

Great pictures! I think people here might be sick of me saying it, but the Tensa4 stand revolutionized my motorcycle trips. I'm no longer limited to just KOA and such. I've stayed setup on "borrowed"...

Backyard hangs during a storm are a great way to test your gear. Hope you make it through comfortably. My family thinks I am slightly weird for seeking out bad weather to hike and camp in.

I vote for the HG Burrow also. I have 3 (0F, 20F, 40F) and they are all great.

I'm not sure how often EE has sales, but HG has fairly frequent sales as of late if that helps with your decision.

I think I'm going to get my son setup with a OneWind hammock and tarp. He camps with me maybe once a year, and a more expensive setup would be a little too much for him.

For whatever reason, doing something like that has never occured to me before. Does connecting the tarp under the hammock do a pretty good job of keeping it contained in higher winds?

It's my own brain limitation I'm sure, but I can't wrap my head around why you need to punch holes in your tarp for your hammock suspension to go through. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of the tarp?
