Count me in with those who don't use anything. If it is dry I walk on the ground. If it is wet, my shoes are in the hammock if freezing, or under the hammock if not.

I'm thinking I should not hang from flag poles, church steeples and metal fire towers either.

I have been very happy with my BB. Sleep extremely comfortably. Just a little shifting around seems to take care of any calf ridge for me.

Never had this happen, never heard of it. Hopefully, never will.

Never seemed to need one, I would rather use the ounces for a larger tarp. My 'Winter Palace' tarp seems to provide all the coverage needed. I just pitch it low in a driving rain and use the doors.

I think that given hammockers affinity to trees, lightening is a legitimate concern. I hope that everyone follows the advice above concerning the importance of site selection. I doubt rubber straps...
