I use a 20d Ridgecreek XL UQ and like it a lot. I use an UQ protector with it as well.
In the Adirondacks: West Canada Lakes Wilderness; Pharaoh Lake Wilderness; Bog River Flow/Lows Lake; Five Ponds Wilderness.
What's your favorite spot in the Allegheny NF?
Take photos/video, read, journal, fish or sit by the lake or river enjoying the solitude and pondering life...
I camped at Round Lake this summer. Granted, it was mid-week, but I didn't see anyone camped there. I checked out all the sites and ended up splitting my stay between the two nicest sites on the...
Your post brought me back to my first canoe camping trip with my daughter when she was 7. She sat on a cushion on the floor of my solo canoe as I paddled her to campsite 20 on Lows Lake in the ADKs....
Thanks very much electbc, I appreciate the info.

I would like to do a weekend overnight backpacking trip in November in the Pine Barrens, preferably on the Batona Trail. Having never hiked the PB or the trail, I'd appreciate suggestions for an...
I have a similar setup (TQ, UQ and sock). I have been down to 34 degrees without the sock and was fine. I also have a Thermolite sleeping bag liner, a military casualty blanket for the sleeve and a...
Interesting article. For me, it makes no difference whether it's spring, summer or fall; I am getting up a couple of times a night when hammock camping and not at all sleeping at home in a bed. Next...
Oh ok, thanks for clarifying. I wouldn't have the courage to even try it, my aim being what it is. [emoji16]

No problem Yarome; were you referring to my post? If so, I always exit the hammock and don't have a problem with it.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts/ideas. I drink the same at home, maybe just a difference in the time that I eat/drink. It only happens when I am sleeping in the hammock (even in the backyard). It's...
Wow, I thought it was just me and due to being older. I never have to get up at home but I do at least twice a night when hammock camping. I don't recall it happening as regularly when I was a ground...
Mine is from 2QZQ as well. I keep it attached to my Ridgecreek XL UQ. I deem it essential, as it protects to UQ. The minimal amount of extra weight and bulk is well worth the added protection.
Thanks Shug, good ideas. It is a strange thing though, I never get cramps other than getting out of the hammock. I drink lots of water when in the backcountry, so I don't think it is dehydration.

I was wondering about that... I sometimes have the same thing happen to me, though they last 15 seconds or so. I was thinking it was a circulation thing from lying in the hammock. For me, bananas are...
I started out with a Klymit Status V pad and went to an UQ the following season. I sometimes supplement it with military casualty blanket in the sleeve in colder weather.
Love that sound - recorded it on my phone to play at school when my middle school students stress me out.
Separately in a sap sack.
With the sleep system I have now, which is so warm and comfortable, when I get in my RR it is only a short time until I fall asleep. Sometimes I read for awhile, but usually I just fall asleep to the...
I have a RR and use the WB Thunderfly tarp with it. It works great. I don't use a stand so I don't know about the compatibility with that.
If that's the update, I prefer the old one which looks more durable.
I agree with TrailSlug. I have a 20d set for my WBRR that I use in the spring and fall for my trips in the Adirondacks. I go to a converted Costco down blanket UQ and a Pine Down Blanket TQ in the...
I have a Ridgecreek XL UQ and a 20d Econ burrow TQ with my DL WBRR. The fit of the XL on the RR is excellent. I also have an UQ protector. I have supplemented that setup with a military surplus...
I am a 36 inch waist and wear size 52.
In the late winter I plan my trips for the year, put them in a Google calendar that has all the family events, obligations etc and then share the calendar with my wife, 24 year old (married) daughter...
Welcome to the forum. I'm north of you in Putnam County. I do most of my trips in the Adirondacks, but we have some sections of the AT that have some good spots for hanging if you are looking for...
When I was first getting into hammock camping, I got caught up in their YT campaign. I needed an inexpensive bag, so I ended up buying one of the 15d bags and a sleeping bag liner during one of their...
I like your setup!
That's what I do in my RR too.
I've had good results with it for both mosquitoes and black flies when backpacking and canoe camping in the Adirondacks. I got a 5% solution by JT Eaton on Amazon. It comes with a sprayer, but I...
I started out using the V pad in my WBRR DL. It worked fine. This year I went to a Ridgecreek XL with an UQ protector. Besides the weight savings, I find the UQ to be warmer and more comfortable. I...
For me, it was my tarp and the clothes I hiked out in. A lot of times I just let everything air out for a day.
I have been interested in going there for the canoeing and hiking/backpacking up the Red Horse Trail. Can't make it until September though, since the car I use to haul the canoe is not available...
Car stays in the driveway - gear and clothing gets hung up or spread out in the garage to dry. Once everything is dry, it gets washed or cleaned as necessary and readied for the next trip.
Me too SilvrSurfr
Hi Sidneyhornblower. I have been using a setup like yours with my WBRR and Thunderfly tarp. I have been putting the RL under the tarp but have been wondering about putting it above. Any further...
Great videos and ideas Shug. Watching it, I couldn't believe I hadn't thought of it. I will give both the quarter and half a try this coming week with my WBRR and Thunderfly tarp when I am up in the...
That's what I used. Works great, easy to treat my clothes. Comes with a sprayer for gear too.
How about hiking a section of the AT and camping? You can take Metro North to the Appalachian Trail Station (check the schedule carefully because the schedule is limited). The trail is right there at...
Last fall I bought the JT Eaton Saver Pak on Amazon. I have mixed it in a one gallon water bottle. I put the garment in a Home Depot pail and pour in some solution to treat it. Move and turn it...
I treated all my clothing and gear with Permethrin. I am heading into the Adirondack backcountry on a backpacking trip early next week. I plan on bringing other repellents and a headnet as well. I...
I agree, it's hard to get motivated when there's heat (and bugs). I am hoping to get away for a backpacking trip early next week. I am thinking of a short hike to a lake or pond. Worse case, I...
For me, being comfortable and enjoying myself is worth "hauling" comfort items like a chair (though not like that one), My Tenkara rod and my Kymit packrat and paddle.

I am in total agreement with everything TrailSlug said. I am in my second season with a DL WBRR (with the Thunderfly tarp) and can honestly say it has reinvigorated my camping experience. I now...
Thanks Marmaduke.
Thanks very much - I will check it out.
This fall I'd like to do a 2-3 day 10-20 mile out & back or loop backpacking trip in the Allegheny National Forest. I would like a route with as much solitude as possible and would apreciate your...
