That's a handsome tarp!
What's the finished weight?
That's a valid excuse for missing the trip.
I hope she has a speedy recovery.
I'd like to withdraw this sale please.
Let's drop the price to $160. Any lower than that and it's not worth it to me.
This definitely needs a video
The stuff cuts easily with standard shears but I threw my neck out bending a 2cm strip. I was trying to summon all of my hulk strength on this little strip and my neck went NOPE!
Protip: use a...
Price drop to $170!
2015 Medium / Medium ULA Catalyst with J-Straps $170 shipped USPS to the CONUS.
Here's my trusty Catalyst. It was used for 21 days on the John Muir Trail this June/July. I think it is time for me...
Suits me fine. I'll be too busy snacking and napping to go to the lake.
Thanks, barbermike! That is actually a different design than the one I saw but I like it a lot and it illustrates the point for my friend.
I once saw a post (thread?) here where someone DIY'ed a really nice "doghouse" that was on the ground but the top was held up by a line going over the hammock suspension. Does anyone know where to...
I've been thinking a lot about this topic. I will take a hammock, a short underquilt and a 48" Neoair. I'll fold the pad under my legs loosely inflated when hanging and then I'll rely on it the...
Bahaha. I knew exactly who you were when I saw the name. Perfect!
We will arrive Friday evening, probably around dark.
Mrs. Clean will likely join us (three people)..
I'll bring my Dutch oven and make some white beans and sausage on Saturday night and some...
I've had a cuben ZPacks tent in the past and while it didn't tension to perfect smoothness like silnylon it was strong as heck in extreme wind and I found that I could tension it aggressively.
Fancy! I was tempted to buy some but I probably don't need to clothesline myself any more frequently than normal. I'll leave this product to smarter people than myself.
A wise man once said "You can never have too many cordlocks." He was right.
That's a pretty good reason for canceling. Enjoy!
I love the cabin loop
I'm really looking forward to the trip. I've mentioned it to a few (real life) friends. Perhaps they will show up here in the thread and at the campsite!
I don't think there is a calendar.
It was a fantastic trip and I think about it constantly. I'll definitely do it again.
Heads-up: there's another discussion about hanging the JMT going on in the West subforum.
Yep. Evolution and Guitar are the two problem spots. There are trees near Evolution Lake. We spent the night a bit higher at Wanda Lake and there are no trees there.
There are some very nice...
So I had the new buff on the kitchen table yesterday and then I realized it was faded at one end and expressed my surprise that I got a faulty buff.
My wife rolled her eyes and said "It's ombré....
Alternately you could send me one of each and I will make a matrix for you!
That seems like a good plan!
Dutch, thanks for the explanation of the fabrics above. I'd like to suggest that you make a matrix that breaks the hammock fabrics down including stuff like weight limit, breathability, stretch, etc....
Excellent video! Thanks for sharing it.
I like the sound of home canned peaches. :)
Also the Facebook JMT group is extremely active and useful. The associated Yahoo JMT group is quieter and more professional and has a huge library of useful PDFs.
I had Wenk's book (and Ray Rippel's book) on my iPhone and referred to them exactly zero times on the trail.
I found Guthook's app to be extremely accurate and useful. Definitely worth the $5 or...
That ain't happening
I miss it so bad already. I'm broiling here in Phoenix and have massive cabin fever.
Jon, have you done the JMT in September before? I bet it's really nice with fewer people on the trail.
Where are you entering/exiting?
HYOH and enjoy but 550 paracord is underrated for hammocks in most people's opinion. Doubling it up sounds dubious to me because I don't think the two strands share the load equally. Knots typically...
The JMT was a fantastic hike. My 12 year old son and I hiked SOBO from 6/15/15 to 7/5/15 from Happy Isles to Whitney Portal.
We slept in a ZPacks Duplex for shelter because we were concerned...
I'm absolutely positive I do not need a fourth buff but I'm 100% sure this one will be my favorite.
I don't know about pumpkins but some Halloween candy will be absolutely necessary.
I am a teacher and I won't know my schedule for late October for about a month. I'm going to hold off on rsvp'ing for the Friday dinner until I know what time we will be arriving.
Interesting to hear the stories of permethrin's effectiveness against mosquitos. I just returned from the John Muir Trail where we encountered heavy mosquitos. I had treated our long sleeve shirts...
I don't think trash pickup is important and the water is from a trailer (I brought drinking water to Elks). I liked the campsite a lot but farther south is nice. Are there any hiking trails near Long...
Hey! It was a great hike other than each night I thought "this would be a great spot to hang at..." If I do the JMT again, I'll definitely take hammock rather than a tent.
We had plenty of water...
Friday and Saturday
I'm down for whatever. I say pick a spot and then whoever goes will be there.
Item has sold!
Clarification: we are only coming if this is (relatively) family friendly. This was discussed briefly earlier but if people are planning on drinking heavily, hollering profanities late at night or...
1. Me plus son. (There is a 1% chance my wife will join)
