I plan on coming up Friday evening after work.
Not sure if this has been mentioned but the Bilo Grocery at the entrance of the forest has closed…
Just in case anyone was planning on stopping there.
I finally got the remnants of that hot dog out of my esophagus early this morning and all is well now. I did leave a soda stashed in the creek so the wife and baby joined me for an afternoon hike...
We have landed in GSP and on our way home to Brevard. I will get some of my dry firewood cut up into more packable chunks tomorrow. Still plan on getting there Friday evening. Bugs are usually not...
Yes, he was captured almost a week later but not before kidnapping and murdering a local Mills River man.
Yes I will have firewood in the back of my truck but I probably won't be on site until 6pm Friday
Great! I plan on being there but will just be getting back from a Colorado trip that week so I may not be able to bring up firewood beforehand as I have the last couple years. But I should be able to...
Haha, glad you got things going your way now. I saw a video a while back that explained the reason spool orientation makes a difference ( which I cannot find now)
Flip the spool over 180 on the spool pin and see if that makes any difference. Or if you have a thread stand give that a try.
Just signed up, I am so looking forward to this especially since I wasn't able to make it last year.
Free home has graciously offered to let me use one of his stands and I will bring a pair of the...
Thanks johnspenn I am fine. Just had a bit of nausea that led to me not eating enough the last few hours that evening which led to having a hard time getting warmed up which made me feel worse....
I had a great time with a bunch of great people.
Snwcmpr, thanks for the great smelling coffee and conversation
El Gordo and Hangar Queen, so glad that you were able to join us and that your...
Just back from taking some wood up. It was good to hang out with Kevin and Carter for a bit. Trail is still muddy but not too bad. There are 2 porta potties set up outside the restrooms at the fish...
When are you arriving Tacoma? I was going to start hauling some wood up tomorrow evening but that backpack you had last year sure would be handy. I won't get to stay until Friday evening around 6. ...
[QUOTE=Foxpoop;1794436]Going to need all hands on deck for trail guides for day hikes this year (Tim, Jeremy, Carter, Joe). I broke my toe pretty bad last night, so my hiking will probably be limited...
Looking forward to it! I'll prob be there Friday evening and I can bring some firewood also.
I'm at the beach this week or I would run over and take a pic of the map posted at the trailhead
(I live in Brevard) As best as I can remember, the MST was the border of the shaded area where Art...
It's not just required in the wilderness area. The map that is displayed at the trail heads indicated that an approved bear cannister is required from where Art crosses MST just North of BRP all the...
I will be solo this year as Webs has a baby shower to attend. I will also bring a spare eno bug net just in case anyone needs it.
Count me in! Thanks guys for keeping this one alive.
Very nice. Looking forward to the video
I'll take it. I can PayPal as soon as I know where to send it.
Great pictures everyone. Webs and I had a great time hanging out with everyone.
What a great group of people. I did manage to lose the bag for my rei chair if anyone might have found it.
Might...
Glad you can make it and hope you can talk the Mrs into hanging out as well
Thanks for taking us along CB. I too especially enjoyed the time lapse of the set ups.
I'll have to go check out Hilliard falls now.
I look forward to seeing you guys in July!
Nice! Curious though, I don't see anything limiting the spread of the tripod legs?
Thanks for the report grannypat. The wife and I were there Sat. Made a loop out of Big bend, foothills and chattooga river trails. Also stopped to see King Creek Falls for the first time.
After my...
Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed it.
Tundracamper,
Yellow Gap rd has several roadside campsites as well as several trails if one wanted to get off the road a bit.
It is a gravel road but it usually stays in pretty decent shape....
Count me in. Looking forward to it!
Thought you might enjoy seeing LGF this morning with 4"+ snow on the ground.
Thought I would be the first one there, but there was a camper from Michigan. 103898

That is going to be a great quilt.
Just in case the thought has crossed your mind, foam and fabric outlet in fletcher does not have omni tape.
Nice day to admire your handiwork with 4" snow...
Thanks for the report. Looks like I may be hiking that one next year when my in laws move to Texas.
You can have a campfire on Art Loeb from the Davidson River end up to the point it enters Sining Rock Wilderness at Ivestor gap. I wouldn't recommend Shining Rock this weekend with the current...
Art Loeb trail on the Brevard side of the Balsam Range is one of my faves.
Note that if you look at weather for Brevard, temps on the trail can run 5-10 below that.
I guess I should update with what I ended up doing. I also have worked construction for many years and second what trouthunter said. However I did try Lexel and Geoseal, and both peeled right off...
Nice video. Actually started to do the exact same thing Sunday but ended up at the base of looking glass helping a climber with a broken ankle.
Nice report and pictures! +1 for a group hang there. It's just across the ridge from me.
Enjoyed watching. Thanks for taking the time to share.
So..... What is anyone else doing with Silpoly?
I am thinking about making a pair of rain pants.
It is great to work with and much easier to sew.
Have you rubbed the areas you sealed to see if you have any separation. So far everything I have tried will start to peel off with relatively minor abrasion. I don't want to have to re-seal my tarp...
I was actually going to do some tests with Seam Grip this evening. I emailed McNett asking their advice and while they wouldn't recommend seam grip, it did sound like the thinking was it might work....
Looking forward to the results
Sheff,
Thinking about making a balaclava myself.
Here are a couple links that might help.
...
Kyle,
Any update on the sea to summit ultra seamsil?
I'll take the blackbird. Sending PM.
sr1355,
What 100% Silicon sealant did you use?
And just curious what color your silpoly test is.
Thanks
Well, my latest tests are fully cured. First was to directly compare the bonding of one side vs the other.
One side does peel off easier than the other but both sides do still come off, with...
Kyle, thanks so much for the update. SimonMc may have given us the answer. I sure wish I could find a store nearby that carries it so I could test it today.
However on all of my tests, I have tried...
Ok so the Acetic acid cured Silicone I is a no go. It peels off too.
The best bond I can get is with Silnet after wiping the fabric down with odorless mineral spirits and letting it dry....
