Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to make it after all this weekend, so someone else can use my site if needed. It's paid for.
Looking forward to this again. *Really* looking forward to some cooler weather too :) though we finally got a bit of a break here in DFW this weekend. Looks like I'm listed on the spreadsheet OK.

I haven't *officially* been granted my vacation request from work yet, but my boss is out today, so I think I'm just going to assume it's OK if I go :).
I normally take my truck when I camp (and...
Anxiously awaiting further info... Looks like you've already got all of Springfield campgrounds reserved or something, it says no sites available on the State Park reservation system :). Speaking of...
For me it's not just snoring, but those camping near me tell of hearing me talking loudly and laughing, in my sleep. Tells of some deep-seated psychological problems, I'm sure :).
Got my reservations made, and added my name to the spreadsheet. If we run out of space, I'm willing to share, if I happen to be in a site that has enough trees. Last year I happened to get one that...
Got it marked on my calendar. Looking forward to it (and the cooler weather!) :)
I had a good time also (ate too much though :)).
Thanks to UncleMJM for organizing it, Old Gringo for bringing plenty of firewood (and supplying coffee for those who needed it), and thanks to Tarp...
I saw on the news last night that Fairfield got 7.5" of rain in the previous 24 hours! DFW only got about 1/10th of an inch :(.
The forecast looks pretty good for next week, 60% chance of rain on...
I'm looking forward to being there. I added myself to the spreadsheet (if I didn't screw it up) and made reservations for a Springfield site.
I plan to take off work Friday Nov. 8 if I can get a...
I have been enjoying following this thread as y'all plan this trip.
I have quite a bit on my plate at work right now, so won't be able to make it, but it sounds like you will be having a good...
Thanks for posting that link, it was fun to look at. I first slept in a hammock while growing up in Peru (a few decades ago).
I have one canoe and 4 kayaks... so far. Kind of like hammocks, you'll have more than one eventually :).
I enjoy kayak camping, although on the rivers I tend to go on, most of the trees are up...
Wonderful pics! Looks like a great trip.
Thanks for the post.
I had a good time, and ate way too much. Thank you all for organizing it.
Next time I'll have to see if I can grab a camp site a little farther away, or bring a generator or something loud to...
I won't make it there until tomorrow, probably in the afternoon sometime. I do have a pretty large tarp I can bring, that might help give us a protected place to gather. I'll try to bring some...
Made my reservations online for a water+electric 2 nights, arriving Friday Jan 11. I know they normally don't assign specific sites until you arrive there. Not sure yet what time I'll get there...
I'll try and bring extra pfd's and paddles. I actually have 4 kayaks and a canoe, but doubt I'll be able to fit more than one or two kayaks in with my other gear.
I will try to get off from work...
Are y'all making reservations for the water/electric sites? I'm thinking I may be able to try and make it.
I have kayaks, not sure if I'll manage to bring one or not.
Welcome, I'm in the DFW area myself.
I am really looking forward to this. It will be fun to look at everyone else's setups. Somehow reading descriptions and looking at pictures online doesn't really give me a clear understanding how...
Good thread.
When I ordered my WBBB hammock this summer, I bought a tarp for it, but postponed a Top Quilt due to cost and it being summer I didn't need it yet. I did get an UQ but haven't tried...
Sorry, the rain in the forecast is probably my fault, it *always* rains when I camp :). I guess I'll get a chance to see how well my new Superfly works.
Like you say though, we might see a...
Welcome! I'm in the DFW area also. Be sure to check out the group hang coming up at Fairfield state park next month.
Thanks for the report and pics. Sounds like a fun time with good friends.
I have a Mayan hammock like this one; when I ordered it I didn't look closely enough at the picture, and thought it was a solid cloth not large weave, but it is quite comfortable.
Since I used...
Looks like a cool hang, but don't forget where you are when you wake up in the middle of the night and need to "step out" to use the restroom! :)
I'm glad to hear you are liking yours, I just received mine (along with the BB and underquilt) Monday, so I haven't had a chance to try them out yet - but I am impressed with how compact everything...
Sounds like a neat trip. I had halfway thought about trying to make it there (I live in Garland) but I don't know anyone yet, and I have no experience camping where you have to take everything you...
I've not been to a group hang yet, but would like to attend this one. I added myself to the spreadsheet (if I did it right) - I'll be renewing my state park annual pass before then so will just make...
Good idea to try out a cheap hammock first. 10' seems a little short to me, depending on the hammock. I have eye-hooks installed in my walls and always have a hammock up in my room, usually a...
Interesting question that I have been considering too. While I have been doing a lot of research and reading up on various vendors' sites, sometimes it's difficult for me to really understand what a...
Thanks for the laugh, cute post. I want to see the video of trying to take everything down, without a ladder :). How do you get it off of the basketball framework?
Have you tried the tapatalk application? It is not expensive, about $3 I think, and I use it on my HTC EVO for a number of forums that support it, including this one. It doesn't do as well for...
Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed the pictures. Looks like you ate well! :)
I'll be interested in seeing your pictures when you post them. I have done some kayak camping, but in Texas it can be difficult to find a place to hang a hammock on the river bank - if you stray far...
