Thanks,

I meant to put this:

In the original post to help with any questions.
Thanks,
Peter
$325 shipped. It has an aftermarket 5 ring NATO band instead of the rubber band it came with. I no longer have the original band.
The watch is a really nice tool. It does more than I can ever...
How are these sized? I'm intrigued by the idea. I love merino wool, but have trouble finding "long johns" that will fit my abnormal frame.
6'4" - 195 lbs - 36" inseam
BTW - I'm in Louisville...
Thanks for the ideas. I'll turn some of my extra AmSteel into some useful pieces today!
We were out over the week end and I wanted to hang my son close so we could share my tarp for wind protection and a little more warmth. The first set of three trees we found were perfectly spaced,...
I've actually thought about building a big one in the yard. As a kid, I constructed a few out of straws, sticks, etc. My only real hesitation has been the cost of materials.
This makes me even...
After I got my machine, I took a 3 hour "Get to Know Your Machine" class at the local Hancock Fabrics. Best $35 I ever spent. Came out with lots of confidence and ability.
Just made some using regular mosquito netting instead of no-seeum. (That was all my local Hancock fabric had.)
Worked out great. I modified the dimensions so I could get my hammock and attached...
I currently used mesh skins from Mountaingoat on my tarp. I love the ease of set up and take down. It is different to pack however since it won't really compress. I simply fold it over a few times...
I too have always had a great experience from the Jacks.
If the shipping is a concern, just buy more stuff so it won't feel so bad!
I've done this and love it. I also use dutch clips on my huggers and when I made my whoopies, I put the adjustable end through the loop on the hugger. No pieces to fall off or loose.
Make for a...
PM sent with questions.
I would like to participate as well!
Nice offer.
ASM, Troop 243, Louisville.
I too was bummed about hammock restriction at Philmont. Was told the bears are "used to seeing the Philmont tents". Not sure what that is supposed to mean...not sure...
6'-5". WBBB 1.7 single plenty of room, very comfortable.
This. With MG mesh skins (she puts little pockets on the ends for your ridge line).
FWIW, I bought a 1.7 dbl adj webbing suspension with plans to use my pad in the pocket. Hated the pad. Didn't like the pocket - can't really say why, I just did.
Bought an underquilt (on sale -...
How can I not add after reading 26 pages?
The Weezer is one of the many nicknames I have given my son (a long story that doesn't have anything to do with breathing...). It is my favorite. He can...
This forum is full of ridiculous amounts of knowledge! You never know when you are going to get schooled on something cool around here.
I love it! Thanks.
One isssue with doing that might be that the larks head could bite on the whoopie making the adjustment a little agravating. That is why I ran the adjustable loop through the tree hugger when making...
I've only seen Zing-It in yellow, it feels kind of "plasticy" (is that a word?), and smaller diameter versus the Amsteel which comes in various colors, and is of a softer texture. Sound to me like...
For me, bigger is better. I have the Superfly. It has doors if I need them, I can set it up in porch mode to hang out () in the rain while cooking, reading, or what not. No way am I getting...
Man - this kills me. I've lusted after these for quite a while.
Problem is, I already have three stoves I use/carry/play with. Jetboil, home made alcy, and the Swiss ranger volcano.
I have...
And with that post, I totally have access to the PIF section!
Thanks for all responses! I kind of figured it was just for more flexibility. (Or if you buy a pre-made whoopie - then I totally understand.)
Seems as though if the trees are too close, I could...
Excuse me if this has been hashed out before, but my feeble attempts at searching resulted in lots of info, but no answer to my direct question...
If you have whoopies in your suspension, why do...
Sold.
Thanks deerfu!
PM outbound to deerfu39.
Waiting for reply from Riverambler.
My understanding is that for your weight you wouldn't notice much difference. Typically, the heavier the hammock material, the heavier the person can be and still get a flat lay (due to less...
Olive greenish. I bought it last fall and I don't think Brandon has changed colors since then, so it should be as shown on his site.
As stated in the title, for sale is my Warbonnet Blackbird 1.7 oz double layer. It has the stock adjustable webbing suspension and double ended stuff sack.
I've used it about 6 nights on the...
One more thought...
My son keep his HH Scout (with whoopies) and his tarp together in the same set of skins. He has his whole rig up in about a minute.
It takes the rest of the kids in his...
I was using a double opening bag until recently and switched to skins. The skins are way easier to deal with for set-up and take-down. for me, the bag was a little "slippery" to stuff with my tarp...
How do they climb with all that gear?
That's a great idea! I'm taking that other stuff back (ALL the non-hammock camping stuff ) to generate some $ for lessons.
This morning, my wife hands me a large, heavy box and says 'Merry Christmas!"
I open it to find a new sewing machine! Wait, what? A sewing machine?
I guess she's tired of funding my addiction...
I use this:
https://www.bigagnes.com/Products/Detail/Accessory/SleepingGiantMemoryFoamPillow
A thin layer of memory foam on a thin inflatable cushion. Perfect for the hammock, but too thin if...
Talk of a Northern Tier trip by our troop before we joined got my son and I interested in hammocking.
Next thing I know, I'm on this forum and poorer in the pocket but richer in the soul!
Still no pics ... :crying
I'm interested. My work schedule is goofy, and my son and I camp with the scouts, so I would need a little notice.
We love RRG, but would do JMF for a simple overnighter. Hoosier National mmight...
I'll try to do a better job of watching the Trip Planning threads for KY and So. IN.
It really sucks to pack everything and then turn around and unpack it without ever leaving the gear room.
I am so bummed. My son and I had a trip planned with some long time friends to RRG that got cancelled at the last minute due to health issues with one of the guys.
The Weezer and I had our packs...
This:
http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/wx130-1.html
Works very well. Cheap ($10). Fun.
Only drawback is the soot from the burning wood on the outside of the cup.
Don't overload it with wood and...
These?
http://hammockcompany.com/detail.php?id=SWM2
I have something similar on my front porch swing and they are very nice. Not sure how I would like them on the hammock.
Neat idea for a...
ASM Troop 243 in Louisville. We have a few scouts that hang, but most of them are older (Eagle) and have moved on to the Crew. My son and I are working on the younger Scouts...
I was bummed when...
:scared:
Pretty sure it was the forest floor...
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention I took three stoves with us this week-end just to play with. Our original Jet-Boil, an alcohol burner I recently made, and a Swiss Army Volcano surplus.
Yes, we used...
