+1 Totally agree, this is my plan. As someone mentioned earlier hang out, talk, cook dinner. The shelters will fill up then you go off and hang your hammock.
Dutch has Amsteel Blue for $22.00 for 100 feet. I don;t know what Dutch charges for shipping, but I can bet it is not $28.00.
Welcome to HF,
Here is a good deal on a Grand Trunk Skeeter Beeter with hanging kit. You will need a tarp for weather protection. Get a blue tarp from Wally World. While you are there pickup a...
Not if you are using genuine Nalgene Bottles. The clone bottles can't take the heat of boiling water. Warm water yes, not boiling.
Thanks John. I sat here wondering if you could use Krylon to create your own camo on tarps and hammocks.
Ok, I was using C= pi * radius squared but yours sounds betters. I think mine was for area of a circle.
A 12 inch thick tree has a circumference of about 9 1/2 feet. So you would need at least 12 feet straps probably 15 feet to be functional. In cases like this what do you do? Carry both lengths? What...
Not being a sexist t*rd. but you usually carry a purse.
Not Banjo String tight, but close to it. Your ridge line should have measured 83% of your hammocks length. This keeps it tight while you are in it. What kind of suspension are you using?
Nice fish. Have a great hang.
That's a sweet setup you have there. I especially like the netting. Good luck when you can get back to it.
That very cool. Get them hanging early lol.
Toggles are small (2-3 inches) pieces of wood, aluminum, etc, used to lock the position of a marlin spike hitch knot.
I didn't see a ridgeline on your hammock as it appears you would get a better sleep if the hammock wasn't so curved. Something to think about as once you get the ridgeline adjusted. you can hang it a...
Country Road
I have been following this thread from the beginning. As a former law enforcement officer I am very familiar with MACE and its effect on people. Mace comes out in a stream and you...
+1 on this. Get a set of ENO Atlas straps and a climbing rated biners and it's up and running in no time.
A friend of mine holds a few patents for various things. He told me one of the things he did was make a scale drawing on a sheet of paper and then he mailed it to himself. He never opened it until...
Check out this video for running a continuous ridgeline for a tarp.
Scratch the above message moderators it is a hammock with bugnet for $41.00
Not really a fronkey style, see if this will work for you.
All the above suggestions are good. What I would do is spray my hammock and netting with Sawyer Permethrin. YMMV
While investigating various clothing items for my upcoming thru hike, I came across several item labeled Insect Shield treated. I went to Insect Shield and discovered that they use permethrin in...
What program did you write this with. Can't open with Open Office or Microsoft works excel.
Whoopie Slings and Eno Atlas Straps.
Put me in and thanks
My bad, after posting , you only need to watch the second video in message 6.

I also like this idea. Then if it looks harder than the person wants to do. they can go to a seamstress and pay to have it done by a professional. imeThen when they pay more than just ordering...
Remember a ridge-line controls the sag of your hammock. Different sag = different lay = back pain. Hope you work out your problem.
You beat me to it Bubba. I watched a video yesterday on just how to do this. Do a search on You Tube.
Hang tough Poedog and have a great trip
I would go with the 3/4 20º UQ.
Very nice. I liked the idea of the S-biner to connect the side channels to the hammock suspension.
Brandon at Warbonnet Outdoors makes a nice bugnet for $65.00.
Thanks everyone for your answers. I thought getting a climbing rated would work fine just wanted to double check.
What style of carabiner should I use with a War Bonnet Blackbird, Whoopie Slings and Eno Atlas Straps? Thanks in advance.
What a great little kit. Count me in the drawing please.:)
What I learned and Like is no one treats you like a dumba**
Looks to me as you will need a set of tree straps. It looks like paracord going around the tree.
I'm in...........
Count me in please. looks like a wonderful set up.
That is great way to top off a great day. Hope you gave the wifey a big kiss.
Hammock Gear makes a cuben fiber sleeve for their cuben tarps. Cost $29.00
You can make your own toothpaste tablets by squeezing a row of toothpaste out on a plate and letting it dry out for a few days. Cut the rows into tablets size bits and let them dry a few more days....
Mine is really simple. I am from Ohio the "Buckeye" State and my first name is Bill. I am going to use this as my trail name so I don't get stuck with something I won't want.
Call me another Shug convert. After watching many of his videos, and pricing the various pieces equipment I decided that I needed to become a "Hanger". Thanks Shug. You may have cost me Money but for...
Well suspension was going to be my next question. Reading what I have, I see the new craze are "whoopie slings". This appears to be a lighter setup over Straps.
Just when I thought i had a decent gear list, I started reading about hammock hanging. It seems to me that this may be the way to go on my upcoming thru hike. I am looking for any thoughts on quilts....
