Max is beautiful. It was too bad I didn't get to see much of him before I left. Msg me if you are interested in dimensions or anything for the pup's tent.

It was great to meet everyone. I look forward to camping with you again soon (and I'm sure Loki wouldn't mind a few more pets around a campfire and another good hike).
I couldn't believe the wind...
I might be able to make it out for the weekend with my dog. The gate by Dogwood Pond is closed in the winter but is supposed to reopen on April 1, so we should be able to park close to the site. The...
Another suggestion to deal with extra time at the end of the day is to get to camp later, not because you hiked farther or longer, but because you stretched out in your hammock and napped in the warm...
I made this pole-less tent that snuggles under the end of the hammock with a silnylon floor, noseeum netting, and a bit of ripstop. I stake out the 4 corners and attach it to the ridgeline with shock...
FWIW: For the same weight, I can sleep significantly warmer in my hammock setup than I can in my tent. I don't know that I've seen this talked about much as a draw to hammocking, but I started loving...
In the winter I never have this problem since I can fall asleep at 5pm if the sky is dark :P In nicer weather with longer days I will hike a little longer, even if it is just exploring with no pack...
9 and 10 are good, large sites with plenty of spots to hang. They are probably easier to get to in the dark than 3 if we have anyone coming in late. It is a short walk from the car to carry in water....
I wouldn't mind hitting Zaleski on the weekend of July 11th or 25th, but the 18th doesn't work for me. I'll keep an eye on this thread to see what gets finalized.

My dog loves to come along and gets excited whenever he sees me grab my pack. He "helps" when I'm making gear, and carries a pack with his food in it in cool weather. In warm...
Move slow :) Work in an area without much air movement and wear clothes that aren't very static-prone if you want to stay relatively clean. I use bulk down and put it in a large bowl on a kitchen...
The old boot makes great suggestions. I used the DIYgearsupply info when planning my tarp and it was awesome. Here are a few thoughts if you have never worked with sil-nylon...
Sil-nylon is very...
Go Rockets! And welcome :)
Awesome. I'll be there.
That sounds perfect. What time are you meeting up at the trailhead?
I hope your daughter has a nice birthday. It'll be a lovely weekend for a party.
I need to get out on the trails this weekend to revel in the warm weather. I'll probably head out to "H" at Zaleski. Is anyone else planning on hanging at Zaleski this weekend?
Thread matters! Use a 100% polyester thread. Many people on here will recommend Guttermann. I use Gutermann Mara on almost all of my DIY gear, including my tarp. You just don't want any thread that...
Also, if anyone who was hanging on Friday forgot a black nylon cord around a tree with a bit of arrowshaft on it as a toggle, let me know. I picked it up.
It was great meeting up with everybody Saturday night. It was nice to sit around a campfire with people who like being out in the winter (ok... so not everyone was as happy about it, but...
I'm in for Saturday and Sunday nights. The roads went to crap around here when the storm came through and I'm not up for the 2 hour snowy drive in the dark. Stay warm tonight everybody and I'll see...
Thanks for being so generous! I'm not in, but I love that you are watching out for the newbies.

I converted the file. Can you see it now?
I hope somebody else will throw some ideas your way. Unfortunately at 5'2", most of what I've learned about gear making has been in an effort to make things smaller!
Add a tentative yes for one more. I might be able to make both nights. Are there any plans for a potluck?
What are these baggies of which you speak? (jk) I'm a stuff and go sort of person. I'm working on my 4th DIY quilt now, and I figure, if you are going to take the time to measure and put it in...
I'm lightening up the tie outs a bit, so I'm skipping the D rings and running zing-it lines straight through the grosgrain, which should eliminate that problem. Thanks for the heads up about mixing...
Once upon a time it was my mother-in-law hiding the good scissors from her sons (and me!). After I'd been sewing for awhile I apparently earned her good graces and she bought me my own pair of...
My DIY sil tarp is nearly complete. My corner/tie out reinforcements are sewn in and my edges are finished. I'm ready to add on the grossgrain tie outs, reinforced with a triangle of nylon...
Don't underestimate the power of good, sharp scissors to cut thread. The cleaner the cut is, the easier it is to pass the thread through the eye of the needle. For that matter, if you are going to be...
If you have never sewn before, don't underestimate the value of practice on a yard of cheap fabric. Get to know your machine, how it handles slippery fabrics, how to begin and end a row a stitches...
Thanks for all of the warm welcomes! I'll be back with some DIY gear updates after the holidays. I'm glad to find a place that understands just how exciting a box full of 1.1 and goosedown (and some...
Awesome - thank you.
Thanks all!
This looks awesome and I think you've convinced me to add darts to my new UQ project. Do you mind explaining why the foot darts are different lengths on top and bottom pieces? I'm trying to scale...
Thanks! Does any place else sell it bulk / by the pound?
The next project on the list is a pair of under quilts. I used Wilderness Logics the last time I needed down, but they are sold out. Does anyone know who might have 800+ fill in stock?
This afternoon I shortened a second-hand hammock down from a spacious 12' to a much more manageable 10' (after all, I'm only 5'3"). I did the math for the 83% ridgeline and went out for a trial hang....
This is awesome. I've been toying around with an idea like this, only made out of noseeum. I've always shared a one (wo)man tent with the dog, and I know that my Golden begs to be let in as soon as...
Hey everybody, I'm not really new here, but some of you may know me as the Mrs. of CB200T. I've finally decided to get my own set up (and account) and stop trolling using the hubby's. I tried out...
