Very cool! You may see some ice too, so that's a good plan. Have fun! I love little getaways, we're lucky to have the AT so close. :boggle:

Hell yea! I'm constantly somewhere on the MDAT... Wish I could be out this weekend. You gonna do the whole stretch?
Love seeing this! We play nice here at HF! :)
This was my thought. You could totally eliminate all friction, which of course is impossible anyway, and you'd still stop pretty quickly because your weight is pulling the hammock down to the center...
Buy the right one first... Otherwise you'll end up buying two. I skimped on everything, except my tarp.
Fredrock! Welcome!
I use the knots only methods Brandon shows here:

Solid choice. I can't imagine being dissatisfied with a SF, but even if you are they sell in literally minutes here on the forum... For nearly the new price. :scared:
I wouldn't use it, for reasons listed here, but if he used tree straps then I'd care a lot less what he uses. Tree straps protect our privilege to hang on public lands, by showing we are looking out...
It will always stretch. The tree straps are for the tree's protection, since applying the force to a wider area lessens its impact.
Not only do most of us use tree straps around the tree, we also...
I'm in, thank you!
Oh wait, one year of membership or one year of donating membership?
Can you use a hammer to open a pickle jar?
Just a couple pics from a rainy overnight with a buddy on Monday. Not much story to tell... The Superfly was awesome, provided a huge protected area and kept me dry despite a full night of rain.
...
I think he just means the feel of the tarp in general. I could see someone calling it a 'coating.'
I set it up differently every time I pitch it. It all depends on the site, weather and my intentions for the night... Porch gives great views, so that's my favorite. That pitch was from last night....
Massive!

Great looking tarp! Is that ridge line cat cut or straight, can't quite tell from the pics. Either way that's a hell of a tarp for the money! :)
Yes, my tarp is very wrinkled when I take it out. It doesn't bother me though.
With quilts, or anything down, it's usefulness is a direct result of its loft... So you protect the loft by...
I've had mine stuffed for about a year with no issues. I can't imagine how that could cause a problem. I just switched to snake skins though, and love the convenience.
I use Amsteel 7/64 whoopies and Zing-It for everything else.
If you get CCF you'll want to lay down and determine where to cut to give you shoulder coverage, in a T formation with the full length one. I cut mine so that it wraps a bit around each shoulder,...
This is $14 at WM and will get you to those temps easily, for under insulation anyway. On top you will need either a bag rated for the temps, or just a huge pile of blankets. Since you're close to...
Are you going to be at elevation? When I check weather I can assume at least five degrees cooler where I'm actually hiking.
Like OutandBack said, you need a bail option, or you need to bulk up...
Hammock suspension or ridgeline.
+1
I'd especially like to know dimensions.
I get the fiberglass wick wrap on the Heine pot... But what's up with the black on the bottom?
That tarp should sell fast here on the forums, for nearly what you paid.
I really don't understand all the CRL users for SFs here. It's more line, and not recommended by the maker of the tarp. I get that it makes centering the hammock under the tarp easier, but I've never...
As said, CCF pads are cheap ($7 at WM) so grab two... I use one as is, and use a second I cut into a number of pieces (torso size, and three seat pad size) I can use as needed. You'll want the torso...
The ridgeline should not need sealed. Brandon recommends lines on the ends of the tarp, not a CRL. I know lots of people do it, with success, but I've just taken the designers advice so far.

63 oz!?!? Whoa!
I can read that! French classes back in high school have paid off!
Hey there! Just got done enjoying some excellent Belgian craftsmanship! I won't go into details but 'Hi Power' should suffice. :)
I'm a big fan of the Mora Companion as well.
Excellent...
I have had a Superfly for almost exactly one year, and used it in every season. The only times I haven't used the doors are when I have a secluded campsite to myself in good weather, when I usually...
If you pulled a heavy rope taut between the two trees (like wench taut) you might be able to hang both hammocks from that line. You'd have to really crank down on it to prevent sag, but if the trees...
I'd contact HG first, but I've read that tumbling in the dryer with no heat and a bunch of tennis balls helps to reloft the down... I always wonder if people buy a dozen tennis balls for this.
Awesome! Once I clear it with the misses, which shouldn't be an issue, I'm in for at least one of the two.
If anyone in MD wants to carpool lets get that possibility going soon so we can make...
I have a Superfly and love it, but if I were doing a thru I'd likely pick up an Edge or Tadpole... The SF is an aircraft hanger and I just can't see myself needing all of that under AT thru...
I have hung my entire pack like a bear bag in a remote area near camp while day hiking before... But generally I don't leave camp; I take it with me.
I was thinking while reading; a note that says...
:scared:
That's insane. They must have had a 5 gallon bucket of the stuff.
I'll play:

Looks great! Nothing like porch mode! :D
First I let her lay in my hammock at home. She was comfy, so we planned a quick overnight. Redoleary nailed it; be the expert. Any insecurity from you will multiply with her. I made a big fire, great...
Yup. I'd be comfortable with more, but ten is a good number for a group. :)
I'd likely bring a ground dweller or two with me... We can shame them the whole trip for it. :p
'Round these parts we call 'em 'thread injectors' 'cause it sounds cooler. :p
George Washington National Forest, I presumed.
I'd be interested.
While you're at it buy two whoopie hooks from Dutch and put those on the continuous lines through the hammock channel. Now you can attach (and detach) your whoopies easily.
Very interesting test, for sure. The only thing I can really comment on from personal experience is the frost bib being wet but not frozen. I slept out the same night, with temps just a couple...
