Get a fence top rail and slide a 1" conduit into it. A little extra weight but very strong.
And then Satan said: Put the alphabet in math............
I've had this happen to me a couple times also. It doesn't happen every time, but often enough now that I put the half hitch in just to make sure.
Stealing that idea!!!!!!
Thanks. I love this stand. I have an old duffel bag that I can use to transport with the shorter sections. That will make it perfect.
Thanks again to everyone for the ideas on this project.
OK, After seeing your parts laying out there looking so compact, I am going to have to go to 2 piece legs. I may have overlooked it earlier in the thread but what did you use to pin the legs?
Here's my small contribution.

I cut the pieces to fit in my truck bed. The tip rails and legs are 6 1/2 feet long. I also have an additional top piece to make the total ridge length 15 feet....
I added the EMT to the ridgepole today and rigged the straps outside the legs. That did the trick! This thing is rock solid now. A couple wraps of electrical tape secures the EMT inside the fence...
Thanks for that suggestion. I will give the 1" EMT a try.

I am wrapping the straps around the legs. Had a definite downward bend to the ridge.
I tried my stand out today for the second time. I had set it up the other day and did a test hang before getting run inside by the rain. I let the ridgepoles run wild and marked them to make sure of...
I just received my fittings and am planning my build next week. I also am considering 6 foot legs. What spread are you using for the legs and what is the final height of your top rail?
All of my projects are ugly as homemade sin, but they work. I bet she will be so proud of her new toy that YOU made.
I started using a quilt for tent camping years ago, before I even considered a hammock. I find a mummy bag too confining. I prefer to use a wider pad when sleeping with the quilt, because when laying...
Is that an RV I see in one of those pics??
Well, thanks to a sinus infection and a large car repair bill this week I will not be in attendance. I am not going to announce in advance my intentions to attend any future hangs. I am just going to...
How long is your hammock? I started with a 10 foot Skeeter Beeter Pro and had a similar experience. I could never really get comfortable. I upgraded to an 11 foot hammock and it made all the...
I have a 3 season New River that I have used down to 29. I was comfy. I haven't seen any lower temps to test.
Barring the flumonia or some other major setback I will be there. I have been wanting to make a group event for awhile now. My wife is tentative. Really looking forward to this!
Just a quick update on my hammock. I decided to go with extra zippers on both sides and the vented overcover. I am so glad that I chose these options. I can't say enough about the ability to have the...
I was using the smartphone app to set my angle and taking forever. I have used this the last couple times and, Good Lord, the time I have saved. So much easier. Thanks Papa Smurf!!!!!!
I just received my DangerBird a couple weeks ago. I ordered the extra zippers on both sides and am very glad I did. Having the zippers meet in the middle is oh so convenient. I also ordered the...
Yeah, what he said. I love my Green Monster!!
I just got mine last week. First night to sleep in it tonight. The quality of this thing is amazing. You will not be disappointed.
Well, just found out last night that I will not be able to make the hang. In Laws are going out of town that weekend and wife and I are in charge of taking care of the animals.
My Dangerbird was...
Yep, mine should be in the next batch. WooHoo!!!
Permission request sent.
Very nice. That means mine is coming soon.....
Great! I do all the research, pick out the perfect hammock and while I'm waiting for it to be built they introduce The Perfect Hammock Mark II. Now I got to start picking up cans off the side of the...
The hammock will have cinch buckles.
Question about the top rail please. I Have an 11 foot Dangerbird coming soon. How long a top rail is needed for a hammock this length?
Here is wisdom!!!
Be Afraid. Be Very Afraid!!!:D
I will be working to optimize the knuckleplexer on my stoves for the competition.
Very nice!!!
Another Green Monster, Cool.
I love how y'all post each weeks offerings so we can look and drool while we wait on our own.
I am leaning this way. I ordered zippers on one side and I am thinking I really might want them on both sides, for the flexibility.
My first build. My first hammock was a Skeeter Beeter Pro. I live in South Mississippi so most of the year is warm to hot. I am a pure wimp when it comes to cold as a result of the warm to hot that I...
I'm starting to stress over the options for my Dangerbird build. I would like to hear your opinions on the vented overcover and extra zippers. Do you have them and not use them or is this something...
Much better than my idea.
Maybe best car camping kit, best ultralight kit, etc??????
Rules??????
I've ridden that ferry. We went to the caves several years ago.
I finally decided on the Dangerbird myself, pretty much for the same reason. If I need the ovecover it is there. Most of my camping is car camping or a short walk so weight is not that big of an...
Just a little humor.
It should be here before then. I agree, we should at least get a bird dog fee for any orders generated from the hang.
After reading everything I could find and watching every Dream Hammock video ever made I finally made a decision. Thanks to Randy for his suggestions, helping me to make my choice. I decided the...
That's kind of the way I'm leaning. I'm not claustrophobic, but I like the hammock for the view. The top cover totally eliminates that. Oh, decisions, decisions!!
Thanks for the info.
