It's a toss up for me between the shelf and the footbox. The footbox really makes the hammock much more comfortable. I believe it would take a much longer hammock to get the same comfort without it....
Be careful to inspect the carbon fiber toggles if you use them. I had a pair and went back to a thicker fiberglass. The carbon arrow shafts have really thin sidewalls and they cracked under...
That was a great post! Good job.
Hope finals went well for you! Keep it up.
I got one of these (the 450) for Christmas a couple of years ago. It doesn't have a handle and just slips into my cook pot. Last I'll ever need.
...
I have had carbon arrow shaft toggles crack in the middle. They never broke completely through but they were broken. I have stopped using them. I have gone back to tent pole pieces. These are much...
Adjusting the pattern to your needs is really easy.
I can pack my quilt (no alpine option) in a 15" long by 6" diameter stuff sack. It will stuff smaller than that when I put it in the pack.
I have made two. One for me and one for my older boy. We've had them about 2 years. They weigh about 1.5 lbs. I use mine in my hammock, he uses his on the ground. Only been cold in it when it got...
And how many $ would you need for a 10 yard hank?
I use 2 one liter water bottles. Cheap, durable (they last forever) and they have a wide mouth for easy filling.
I'm just happy I don't have to blow up my mattress anymore. I also don't wake up in a pool of sweat if I come out of the sleeping bag and lay in direct contact with the inflatable plastic BA air...
First off congrats on Grad School! Second, congrats on the well deserved vacation!
I got my Spinn Deluxe the other day. Fabulous construction! Just like all the reports that I read here on HF....
I guess I fall into the category of thinking that the heavier stuff would be more durable and therefore give more value for the money spent. This may be a false belief but I would think the heavier...
Kagitora,
This material would probably not be good for a quilt unless you were looking to make a vapor barrier style for cold weather.
They would work fine but might be overkill and may be heavy compared to alternatives. The toggle can be fairly lightweight since the webbing takes the load, not the toggle.
Carbon arrow cutoffs. They weigh 2 grams each.
I imagine it's tp ensure a consistent air gap.
Thanks. Now I have to find out where the first one has me located, cause it's nowhere near. That's why I thought someone had deleted me. Cheers.
Can someone update my icon. I have read through the 32 pages of this post and the link that Fin gave doesn't appear to work. Hopefully no one will erase me again. Thanks.

All I can say is "That's why I love this forum!" Where else would someone who is trying to sell something give you help in making it yourself?
Thanks Opie.
I'm in! And it gets bumped up!
I hope you find a solution that works for you. Not being able to do what you want to accomplish because of pain is really frustrating. Cheers.
I'm in for 5 yds as well.
Paypal and PM sent.
I've had webbing get "hung" in cinch rings and then had to be pinched and pulled out because it was to tight to slip. This was not easy and I don't have any problems with my hands. I've also had slip...
After having dealt with knots and rope, webbing suspensions and finally a whoopie sling setup I think that the whoopie sling setup would be the easiest to do / undo. Other than the marlin spike hitch...
Just out of curiosity, could a UCR constrictor be used instead of the prussics? I have been thinking about this for several days and I can't see a downside.
I've also heard of thinning and then using a small syringe to get the sealant just where you want it. This is what I will do next time since I usually end up with a silicone seal wider than what I...
Got mine today. First off, thanks opie for putting this together and making it a reality. From my end the only word that I can use is "Simple". I don't think that there is higher praise that can be...
Isn't this a foot longer than the blackbird?
Well the CO2 will probably have a huge impact. It's a poisonious gas now yeah know. Oh and watch out for bananas, I've heard that everyone that eats one will die! Must be some pretty bad stuff. The...
Short sections of hardwood dowels would work as well.
Is this another cottage industry product?
I am working on DIY kits. I have the fabric bodies with the seams already sewn. I have 1" polyester straps with loops sewn in one end. I have ring buckles and two sizes of rope. a 2mm line for...
It looks like a more confined quilt setup. I'd rather have an actual quilt. I think a quilt would be much more adjustable and user friendly at night.
Well, they are a pair short now! That saves another ounce. Total package now a bit over 11 ounces.
dang green is behind! ..must...catch...up! Bump mine to 200' please.
In the picture above the sling puts a lot of pressure on the knot and webbing above the toggle. The knot itself gets compressed. The toggle takes some pressure but I believe that the tension is...
Here are mine.

I've got an older Elna (Swiss) machine. My son thought I was nuts when he saw me sewing until I removed the covers and let him watch the inner workings.
Take one look and the words that come to...
And where do I get one of those? Got a link?
PS. Livermush? :scared: Yeap, you've gone over to the dark side for sure. :D
Ok, so I finally have a nice day and batteries charged in the camera. So here goes.... :)
Here is the chair/gear hammock setup with whoopie slings attached to the hammock body. Six foot slings,...
I'm in for 100'. Green preferred.
gargoyle, I did not paint them. The tent poles that I used had the pattern on them already.
Okay, so here is a brief run down on my adventure with Whoopie slings.
This past weekend I went backpacking with my Boy Scouts. Before I left I made a gear hammock / bushman chair. I made the...
I went to a bow hunting shop and got several carbon arrow cutoffs. They seem to work great.
I've got a bunch as well. PM if you need them.
Here is the Neatsheet underquilt that I use.

I have slept with my BA inflatable / bag system on the ground and in a hammock. For me the cold clammy feeling of condensation was the same in both situations. That's why I built an underquilt. No...
Got a contact for one of these. Searched and can't find any info.
