My personal view is that Dynaglide is one of many steps to ultralight backpacking. And, like all ultralight gear, it has to be handled differently than boy scout gear.

That depends. Do you not only cut half the handle off your toothbrush, but also remove every other bristle? If you don't, then it's probably not significant.
