I'm 5'10", using 9ft as well as 10ft hammocks. Prefer the 10ft ones. Never used an 11ft hammock, so don't know if I'd notice a difference.

Using only down insulation, I believe, and doing very well with it.

On the AT last year, there was a bunch that didn't use any UQ at all for a large part of the trail. It was hot and humid enough as it was.

Just tie the shock cords at each short end of the UQ to the hammock suspension where it enters the hammock fabric. If the UQ sags too much, attach the shock cords a bit further out on the suspension....

I've got the Woodsman X (double) and it's fantastic.
If you're looking for a bargain hammock, though, the Woodsman X (double) costing £125 might be on the expensive side.

You can get very good, fairly cheap hammocks at ukhammocks as well.

I like the Warbonnet stuff sack sizes.
My icy cold hands prefers when I don't have to squeeze something into a tight stuff sack.
And a more spacious stuff sack will allow me to fill my backpack in...

I only use a double layer to keep the mozzies out in temps 75+
Never found the need for an uq at those temps.

If you want to have something you can actually use out there in the piny woods, you can only have two of the above at the same time. But not three...
