Exactly right! It's a more efficient use of your material and the "stretch" from having it run "on the bias" makes it a little easier to go around curves and with movement.

Too, some people use bias tape when they have a bunch of thick fabric (i.e., thick canvas that's been treated with water/fire proofing stuff) because it makes it easier to sew through. You don't...
Yep.... hemming it would serve the same purpose. It give me a little more durability where my tie outs are, because I did the double stitching, but the savings is negligible when compared to time...
