You really cant find a "bad spot" along the Sipsey
Silicone tubing......aka fish aquarium tubing. Also works great for covering wire handles that get too hot.
I used a staple puller like this. Most of the staples stay lodged in the device so it is was a easy clean up to.
I put the staple parallel to the edge so I did not have to remove them until after...
I know this may sound odd, but I found a alternate to pinning grosgrain on my tarp project. I broke out the good old military grade stapler.
Since it takes me forever to finish a project, staples...
This topic recently came up at church dinner last week. As a woodworker, hobbyist machinist, and building carbon fiber goodies; my vote is the same sqft as you house :D
I found it very difficult to make carbon fiber (CF) poles to match both the weight and strength of these which I think are extremely similar to the stock poles.
At home depot or lowes you can find clear tubes that encase florescent bulbs for protection. They are dirt cheap too.
I have no water craft. Just love the sound of running water and the joy of fishing with my son.
I live in Huntsville AL and my son and I are looking for a place to hang with a river we can fish in. We both enjoy the freedom and seclusion of the Sipsey (vs must hang at a campsite) but...
Just emailed Ed for 8 bags of the fluffy stuff
If it did it correctly - you should see a calculation table. Temps are to be taken with a grain of salt, and more as a summer, 3 season, winter classification.
TeeDee's design is what prompted my brain  As normal, great thought and execution. I really benefited from his drawing.
I was thinking of a full enclosure with a small vent to help with...
Before I invest my most valuable asset (time) on this concept, I would like to read some feedback.
I am trying to cut down on weight and was thinking of making another bridge.
After reading this post, is grossgrain/ribbon needed for strength? Tighter pitch?
I do not think the Singer 15-91 has a reverse. One could leave the needle down and raise the foot and spin the material to mimic a reverse.
Anyone using their bridge hammock as a chair? I have a hard time getting in and out when off the ground. Any tips?
Hancock fabric has the blaze orange poly ripstop on sale for $3 a yd.
I have no experience with Chiffon however I recently bought 10 yds of dark grey noseeum on ebay for $20. That is pretty cheap.
If you can handle hunting orange  my local Hancock Fabrics has it on sale for under $3 a yd.
If I could only find any weight ripstop at walmart 1$ bin :(
Thanks for the responses. I was able to find 1.8mm spyderline too but I figured that would be too small too. Bummer - gotta like free.
Awesome job - you should be proud of your accomplishments
I have found a unlimited supply of this 2.8mm cord and curious if this will hold a 230 lbs pound guy in a DIY bridge up off the ground  ?
Surviorman used a hammock out of a hot air ballon a couple of weeks ago.
Yes I was installing the pins across the seam. I actually struck them and the needle deflected enough to skip a stitch when it did.
I am rolling now  As I suspected the shaft holding the tension mechanism needed to be lengthened. It was all the way in and no matter what I tried it had too much top tension.
I also found...

Yes I performed a full lube job with singer products. I am not trying to sound arrogant, but this is the first mechanical thing I have not been able to fix. ;) I have one last thing to check and if...

Yes the machine is one of the old, black, heavy machines.
The material is uncoated 1.9oz ripstop.

Same here - on the line between reg and long. Went long and love my mont bell super stretch bag
I am having trouble sewing 4 layers of ripstop. The top thread keeps breaking. I have tried both 14 and 16 needles and both universal and ballpoint. I am using Gutterman thread. I have also...
My vote would be a old singer (or Japan clone) via ebay. I picked up a Universal DeLuxe (Singer 15-91 clone) for $46 with a ton of attachments.
You can find old Singers for under $75 all day long...
How many stitches per inch does one recommend? I can select 5-30 stitches per inch on my old Singer 15-91 clone.
I love the fence prop! :D
Classic example of why DIY innovates. Beautiful work.

Which way is easier to build - stitching the webbing to the body or making the channel for spyderline?
Once my machine is delivered I will be starting my DIY bridge and thinking easier will be...
Here is some more info
(4) sections of 3/4 or 1/2 copper pipe 18" in length. (2) 1/2 or 3/4 couplers to join the pipe will make what you desire.
What about copper pipe?
I will try the fire test for sure (I am a pyro) :D Does all ripstop have a square pattern?
I bought a bolt of this last night in the 1$ bin alt Wal Mart. It is olive green. Same surface on both sides and you can breathe through it. No squares or any other patterns.
BTW - The mustard...
Yea- I should have elaborated.
The whole reason I started backpacking this year is because I have a 7 year old step son that told me one night that all his friends and their dads have a "thing"...
