Yeah it is proofed for fire water and mold. I have been looking around for a good quality 6 ounce. Its hard to find here in Australia. A waxed or oiled cotton would be excellent!

Not totally. Water resistant is a better description. This just enhances the fabric.
I have been trying a few things to go on the Terra Rosa Gear quilt and bag cover but also on a few of the tarps and have found that Tyvek (1443r at very least) takes very well to the DWR treatments...

Yes, they are axe groves. Used to fashion and sharpen axe heads. They can be found in many places in the mtns if you know where to look. We just happened onto these ones. No telling how old they were.
