Rightly said. It doesn't have to be Amsteel. I have used spyderline, and some other stuff (been a while). Any cord rated over 1000lb tensile will work. I usually get mine on line from Annapolis...

Amsteel floats. Its magical stuff really. You can splice it, hang from it, loop it, bury it, I'm sure if you tried hard enough and you "Believe" it could get you back home from OZ.
