Here is my Pics from last weekend. 174269174270174271
My 11’ fits my blackbird perfectly. Not sure what 2 more feet would really do.....
I only have, need one tarp. The superfly. Winter and storms doors are deployed. Light wind or rain conditions doors are pulled back. Summer/no wind/no rain= no tarp.
First night ever hammock camping I borrowed a friends eno dryfly. It absolutely stormed! Woke up in a puddle of water in the hammock. Next day ordered a superfly and have never gotten wet again.
Three years strong no falls or flips even after drinking. Now my bed on the other hand .... :(
If don’t blow the pillow up all the way and fold it around hour head the two round things could double as ear muffs. Hahaha
I’m in Texas so we really only have 2 seasons, cold and the surface of the sun. In the winter I wear a mid weight base layer reserved for sleeping. In the summer only boxers......
Love my Phoenix Econ. Guessing you will too
Those temps are sooo cold. Would love to try it once but not sure it would happen a second time lol. I guess I will live vicariously through you guys.
I spent the holiday weekend with friends at Tyler state park in TX. Was super fun. My first hang of 2019 will probably be our Texas frozen but hang in a couple weeks.
That’s awesome. Good job!
I live in Dallas. Don’t come down your way so much so I can t suggest locations but welcome to the group!
Sees like a super easy set up. Love my cinch buckles though......
Comgratulatioms I am debating on getting a new winter underquilt and the UGQ people are at the top of my list.
Awesome video! That’s some cold camping around here. (TX). Wish it got that cold.
I have the Phoenix 40 Econ and love it!!!!
Glad you caught the mistake. I would have been super frustrated :(
I just bought another thermopro thermometer. We use them in the walk in coolers in kitchen and they are plenty accurate. Plus they have a low and high feature for keeping track of the extremes of...
It is really sad how summer campers act. Being out in the woods is a gift to be in nature. Destroying it is counterproductive. I will say they also act horribly and have no manners towards other...
I don’t hike anymore I just car camp but I keep my suspension in a separate bag. Easier to set up for me with my system.
Am am a cold sleeper in a hammock but with the right underquilt and maybe a supplemental pad I love cold weather hanging. Sleep so well. Don’t know why.
That was awesome! Great job on the video!
For how easy they are I chose the cinch buckles. Dutch makes some good ones that I am enjoying.
That was ingenious. My do right??
The biggest thing I noticed is that I don’t toss and turn and actually sleep on my back. In my bed I roll around and throw blankets and pillows.
I second that water rule. Camped by a few lakes and streams and it always felt colder.
I am also worried about compressing my down. I try and never have it compresses more than one day. Probably being paranoid but at least it makes me feel better lol
The OP didn’t specify backpacking weight or resale value. Not everyone is willing to spend $150 for something even if it is most likely a better option for them. I would never get rid of my snugpak...
I would suggest a 20 degree underquilt. I live in Dallas and love camping in our winter which can get down in the twenties. In the fall I can vent it and in the summer here you don’t need any...
To be honest nothing is as good as one of the cottage vendors underquilts. I second the HG Econ line recommendation. But if money truly is an issue I used the snugpack underblanket for almost a year...
I have used a whole bunch of dutchware stuff off and on. To be honest the only thing I still use are the 2 stingers attaches to the ridge line on my superfly....everything else kinda fell by the...
Welcome from Dallas!
Welcome from Dallas area. We are practically neighbors lol
Which model did you get? HG does a very good job. Love mine. Being a cold sleeper the temperature rating is spot on for me but most say it is 5-10 degrees more generous.
This is hang is an amazing time. Sooooo looking forward to my second year!
OMG! That looks so awesome. Absolutely beautiful. Enjoy your fall adventures
I just wrap the seatbelt strap around the tree and then hook my climbing rate carabiners to hook up my regular straps.
I don’t trust people anymore. I feel suspicious keeping my stuff up when I go do my business :(
As a cold sleeper I use a closed foam bad for my back and butt then a 20 degree incubator then a 40 degree Phoenix to top it all off. (That’s for 0-10degrees)
My summer quilt is a Phoenix. For winter nothing beats that full size Downy comfort.
I always tell people try your system out 10-15 degrees above its rating and then go down from there. I am a cold sleeper and a 20 degree system only works to freezing for me. Guess I’m as cold...
So I started this but the summers here in Texas are ridiculous. Found that above 85 at night I can’t sleep even with a fan. Guess I will have a 4 month period to camp....:(
I started with a low budget tarp, still have it. From amazon and was on sale for $20ish. Then borrowed a friends eno profly xl. So much better in the rain. Final saved up enough for the superfly. To...
The Econ series is awesome! If you are not “ultralight” it is worth the cost savings.
I have a 2QZQ for summer rains and a Dutch ware hammock sock for winter.
Love my superfly but my friend has the winter dream with the interior pole mods. I see one of those in my future.
I agree Vanhalo. Only problem is here in Texas it got hot in March :(
Agree with the above posts. Just remember to air out the tarp before storing it if it was raining. One of my buddies didn’t. Mold grows just about anywhere.......lol
That’s an awesome story!
I am not a big fan of that product for a couple reasons. I have broken trekking poles before and if that is your water filter as well you’re completely screwed. Also sometimes I hike in muddy areas...
