Thanks for the advice Mike
Hi All,
I've just made a new ten footer winter hammock and was slightly disappointed that before whoopies it comes out at 340g. I see quite a few people using a single layer of 1.1oz ripstop. I've...
I have a yeti, but I'd prefer a quilt for her that is a little bit longer and preferably one that doesn't choke up the hammock quite as much
I read about Ed doing this. Is he still around? Haven't seen him on here or on the yahoo hammock group since he sold up.
Thanks Paul!
Thanks to you both. More food for thought.
Hi All,
my wife is looking for a new underquilt. She's a very cold sleeper. Currently using a Speer Snugfit which keeps her -just- warm enough in winter. We're looking for something 3/4 length to...
Hi All,
can I use Speer's No-Tangle guyline as a ridgeline on my DIY hammock? How much load will it actually take if attached to the gathered ends? the original speer hammock used this material...
This was filmed in 2001. I think Ewan did a great job. The hammock does set up with tape, which I would imagine would protect the bark fairly well.
Thanks all. I've ordered the whoopie hooks
Hi All,
for the last couple of years I've been using my blackbird with webbing and dutch clips. I'm now looking to make a new DIY hammock and am completely overwhelmed with the bits and pieces now...
Are you sure you weren't laying with your head in the foot end of the hammock when reading the book?
It was great to meet everyone and enjoy some of most picturesque cliffs in the Mtns. But the glutes got a good workout on the walk out!
Welcome, good to see you on the site gelandangan
I'm in! That's a great billy stand in that picture Hitch... which talented hammock hanger put that together ;) ?
Great shots too.
Nice shots Bluegum! I haven't seen the cuben tieouts before, the white looks great against the red. Hmm... always room for one more tarp. Canvas tarp with cuben reinforcements? ;)
Hi All,
thought I'd do a review of my new tarp from TRG, the Prospecting tarp.
I'll preface this by saying that I do know Hitchhiking, but have nothing to do with TRG.
Overview
My new tarp is a...
I've NEVER seen a koala in all my years walking! Lizards, snakes, roo, wallaby, pig, birds, possum, but no koalas... One day hopefully.
Hi All,
unfortunately won't be able to make this one. I'm sure you'll all have a great trip, the views from Mt Dingo are pretty spectacular- you can see all the way out to the catchment.
And...
When I first started getting into ultralight gear about ten years ago, the Rab top bag was the one that everyone seemed to have! Good to know it's still being made.
Sticks make pretty light stakes!
I agree regarding the insulated hammock idea. I've made and used both synthetic and down insulated hammocks, as per the ones on Risk's site (has he fallen off the face of the hammocking world?)
I...
agreed, HH do provide good service. A few years back I had my silny diamond tarp rip, they sent me out a replacement hex fly by accident. When I told them about it, they said "keep the hex and we'll...
I always keep my down gear in a drybag. I don't understand how a wateproof/breathable bag could help dry gear, as there is no heat source to push the moisture out. I line my dry bag with a light...
1.) WBBB 1.1 double layer
2.)OES Maccat Deluxe cuben
3.)WB 3 season Mamba long/ HG incubator (on their way to me...)
4.) Always cook over a small fire with a tripod
Double post, could a mod delete this for me?
So many solutions listed here :)
A camping catheter? great idea! While we're at it, we could hook up to a saline drip at night to save having to drink water!
I don't find standing up and walking...
which model tarp is that one?
I have the BB, which is great. My wife has the ultralight zip HH, which is the same in dimensions as the expedition I think. I love it, the HH has a particularly chunky zip.
Nice to hear, can't wait for my incubator
SkyPainter, interesting info regarding Zucherberg. There are quite a few bushcrafters on this site now!
Great trip report Hitch. Jealous!
Thanks dla, the 900 fill in my peapod occasionally needs moving around, but it is far longer than a standard UQ. I think to have overstuffed the peapod would have meant an extra pound of down!
Nice video! the haloumi looks good.
I've had a 3m hammock covered by a 3m tarp in heavy rain quite a bit. The ridgeline of the hammock is probably closer to 2m in length, but I never had any problems.
I used to own the HH 70d hex tarp. I loved the thing. Especially the little pockets for the guylines. I find the PU nylon much easier to pack away than silnylon. But in the end I sold it and moved...
Dig a hole under the hammock?
I like the idea of a poncho tarp, but it makes a pretty minimal shelter imo. I can see it being of use in an area where rain is scarce. But in prolonged rain it might...
Looks interesting
When I saw the heading of this thread, I thought someone was considering getting rid of their snugfit!
I say go with the yeti
Thanks all. Incubator ordered!
Thankyou all for your help!
One last question, is the incubator wide enough to accomodate a fetal position sleeper?
Thanks Chris, but the yeti is definitely adjusted so there are no gaps. I've had it for well over a year and a half and have checked it with someone else in it.
I've been having some interesting experiences lately with insulation.
Last weekend, wearing thermal top and bottom plus a light fleece jumper and beanie, I was fine down to freezing in just my...
Hi All,
I'm getting ready to order a 3 season incubator, just had a few questions.
Does it need any overfill to stop the down moving around?
Have people found the 20 degree rating to be fairly...
We had the same problem when ordering a HH ultralight zip from the Hennessy store. Crazy prices on shipping!
Great review, nice pics
Great report. Do many people walk the entire track?
I love my BB, but I have to say that my wife's Backpacker Zip might be even more comfortable, for me. Just preference.
Great TR Hitch. Certainly was an amazing trip.
lovely pics. You're braver than me walking in the heat!
