Great report and happy belated birthday
Sounds like it was a great first backpacking trip... Careful, backpacking becomes addicting.
That was a powerful system, poorly forecasted. Good call on cutting out early.
BWCA...candy for the eye and ears. Thanks for the report.
Looks like it was a good trip. Nice report.
Another great report. Reckon the BWCA sure is some purdy wilderness for tired eyes and even for refreshed eyes.
, I hiked a small section of the trail first week of May. Hiked from Brevort River to East Lake before road walking to Trout Lake and on to Pine River. It was a fun hike and I plan to hike more of...
I'm glad Gabe will recover and it doesn't sound like this attack will deter them from getting out into the woods.
It's a rare night when temps don't drop to dew point. I rely on weather forecasts. hanging tarp high and in porch mode gives you a fair view while still affording some protection against the dew.
And watched. Really makes me want to do another trip there soon.
Thank you for reading/ watching. It was a good time.
Good report. You had a good walking speed imo. I have discovered those 10+ mile days tear my feet up...need to lighten my pack by 10 lbs. or so. :-)
Another convert...from hotel luxury to two trees no less. Good job. The appeal of hiking and backpacking doesn't lose its appeal if we are promised a good, comfortable sleep each night.
Nice looking setup there. Glad you found the right fit.
I compiled a movie with stills and video I shot with my iPhone...I have a lot to learn about shooting video.

Dave, it exceeded my expectations...after Pictured Rocks and Isle Royale, I was thinking ghetto, but truly was fun and interesting.
Yep, no sense in being out on the trail if you're not having fun. :-)
Yeah, the first night we were close enough to Lake Michigan I didn't have to setup my bug net. And even the second night I wasn't going to until I thought about the ticks and heard a few mosquitoes...
Shortened my trip due to sore feet and black flies. trip report posted.https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php/109685-Hot-Days-and-Cold-Nights-on-NCT-in-Hiawatha-National-Forest-(Pic-Heavy)
I just got back from an abbreviated trek along the North Country Trail in the Hiawatha National Forest.
Saturday afternoon, May 2, my beautiful wife drives my son and I north across the mighty...
It is liberating... had an awesome light show last week in Jordan Valley going topless. Wind gusts in the middle of the night gave me a few chills, but not enough to make me want to get up and set...
Nice report and that snow is nice...but I'm ready for it to be gone completely here. :-) 107401
Shot yesterday in Whitefish Bay.
I just returned from checking the trail out...and calm my concerns about high water and snow. Looks to be good to go with still a bit of snow in the woods up near Whitefish Bay... my current plan is...
down puffer jacket stuffed in its bag works good for me. and the cheaper jackets can be found for low cost...
Just putting this out there. My son and I are planning to hike from Brevort Lake to Tahquamenon Falls. The snow is mostly gone now, so it should be relatively easy tread. Any fellow hammockers who...
It's going to be a great weekend for hanging. Think I'm going tarpless tomorrow night up in Wilderness SP.
Bug nets required north of the line too from May onward until the first hard freeze in fall. IMO.
Yes it was Jeffy. Welcome to the site.
Nice report. I really like the shots of the canyon. West with its wide open spaces always looks cool to me.
Motor 7, yes, -12 F. on the last outing. My UQ (KAQ New River) is rated for 10 and synthetic Wal Mart mummy bag rated for 5. Clothing is normally polyester long underwear, wool socks, fleece...
I recently started using an UQ. Before that, I made a pad work: the drawbacks I experienced with a pad were placement in the hammock (uncurling the ends) and staying on the pad (Narrow 20"...
To my knowledge, there's no additional fee for back country permit. It's more of an issue of them knowing where to search if you come up missing.
Nice report and slide show. Thanks for sharing with us.
Seems I have a few more videos to watch.
Sad to admit, but I've actually been spooked by nearby deer in the night...in my defense, it was a hot humid night with high possibility of thunderstorms so I wasn't starting out in an easy mind to...
Just thought I'd post photos from my...
Great video Dave. I'm still in a mellow state of warm afterglow from an excellent weekend in the woods.
You made the right decision. It's always important to have a bail out plan set up. It was good to meet you and welcome to the hammock madness.
Great report so far. I'll try to add my take tomorrow after I'm rested up from my Detroit run.
My take on the 1st annual Green Timbers Big Tree Hang (and endless buffet) : Thursday night, I’m...
Excellent weekend with new friends met...-12; CRAZY!
Looks like I'll be pulling out early Sunday for a quick turn around and drive to Detroit... Fun.
I'll meet you at the trailhead... Or cabin depending on my timing.
That'll be me tonight, along with questioning my sanity as I watch, yet again, the temps plunge.
My pack mule aka my son has decided to opt out of this trip, so I'll be coming in solo...might have to reconsider how much extra I bring in without his help pulling the sled.
This little snow event going on this morning has me psyched to camp. Guess I'll start getting my gear ready after work. Thinking I'll try a fixed ridgeline out on this trip.
Mr.LCV, those pics kind of scare me. I guess I can't snivel about goose egg lows for this upcoming weekend. I'm planning to stay warm during the daylight hours by processing firewood. Dave, I'll...
Weather pattern is moderating at a glacial pace.
Easy to find, just on the hill above cabin...thinking I'll be selecting a hang spot somewhere up the hill--- cold air settles in the low areas, plus added dampness of river.
I know I can safely get that low, but won't mind if the actual low stays north of that number. Banking that the ground dwellers in the group don't become offended if the cabin becomes a warming...
