Before Christmas there was a sale on these giant hammocks, and I bought one for fun just to see how the size affects things. Most of my billions of hammocks are between 10 and 11 feet. I do like a...

I was on a trip where someone brought along a Kuhli, and it performed well. It was a canoe trip, so weight didn't really matter much, packing size was more of a concern. We had several days of rainy...
I'm from Upper Northampton County, near the Delaware Water Gap. I have extra gear that I can show / lend you at a hang to try out and see how it works for you. Can probably blather on ad nauseum re...
Is there some hack to safely use deck anchors that don’t have the springs with the see-saw solution, so they don’t twist when not tensioned? Can I buy inexpensive springs to add myself (I live in...
I used a punch and a step bit, which is a similar idea. Both are handy to have. I just have a cheap set from Harbor Freight. The punch was a free item at some point. They don't do those free coupons...
Switch to a cotton hammock. It helps. There should be somewhere you can find one. Better yet would be one I. The Mayan weave, which spreads out as you lie in it. You'll need to add a bug net. They...
Which size tree straps are recommended? Are 1 inch good enough, or should we use wider?
Welcome back. Glad you were able to recover and hope that you'll enjoy your return to the forum.
Am I too late to still get the code? Not midnight yet ;)
I have a question when using half a tensa with one tree. In the past, before tensa, when I had this issue, I've hung from a tree to a ground anchor and used an upside down "V" of two sticks lashed at...
Sadly, I'm out now, too. Between a sick cat who now needs pills twice a day for a week or so, and being a PA quarantiner (hard to come to Maine and not be able to run around a little), it's not in...
I'm in the same boat. I work in NJ and have been quarantining at home in PA, but I got the PA plates. PA isn't in the good states club at the moment. I still want to come up, but I haven't made the...
I've used it with the straps not problem. I now use a dogbone to go from the stake to the strap. It just make less bulk to deal with around the boom. Just larks head the dogbone to the strap. I think...
Hold the two loops of the first dogbones together as if they are one hole, and larkshead to the two loops of the other dogbones. There is an elegant way to larkshead each to the previous one in a...
Why not just take 2 dogbones and larks head them to the other two?
If you're not backpacking, Walmart sells a synthetic camping quilt that can be DIY'd into an underquilt very easily. It's about the size of a Costco Down quilt and runs about $18. Hand sew an edge...
I like that idea. I use mine on my deck, so I've just been putting a chair cushion down on the bar, but framing it out would be more elegant.
I just saw on another thread that Meadowbrook is opening on July 1, so there's a chance this hang will make it. As long as we take it easy with the gettin' back to business business!
I want to hear about Germany when you get back!
I've got that type of stand, 2 in fact. Not an LLBean, but similar quality. One of them was shorter on the end poles, and I was able to find pipe that fit into it, so I just bought enough pipe length...
I expected as much. I'm in a locked down county in PA, and have been working in NJ in a place where we've had some cases, so it wasn't looking good for me, anyway. Stay safe everyone. Hope to catch...
Got the time off work, and it looks like my sister is more than halfway decided on coming along. Can't wait!
I want to try to get there again. Putting in for vacation time...
I like the single. It just ends up easier for me. Grab one end and slide all the way to the other, instead of walking to one side, then back to the middle and walking to the other side. First world...
It seems to be about 5 hours from my home (Delaware Water Gap area, PA), so I want to take off Friday to drive up. It would be nice to make this one.
I want to try to make it, and if I can get off from work, it will be me and my sister. I'll have to wait a couple weeks to get the okay.
I second Mauch Chunk Lake. I just camped there weekend before last. Most of the sites are wooded and I had no trouble finding a spot to hang. The place was nearly empty except for our very large...
It's on the left side of the road beyond the pavilion parking, but before the main campground with the sites. Group sites are lettered sites A to E(F?). The day use area is near the pavilions.
I was going to mention that. I did quite well with any number of gerry rigged blanket underquilts until I got around to making a proper one. My favorite was a pile sleeping bag. I could bolster it...
Looks like somehow between us all, we could get her hooked up!
Hmmm. I probably am only going to be there Friday night. I've got another event on Sunday. I'd be willing to bet I have a spare hammock somewhere. All mine are over 10 feet and would work for her....
Do you have a spare hammock and straps? The trees there are very conducive to a double hang under one tarp. My sister and I hang that way all the time when we do our river trips along the Delaware....
As long as packability and weight are not primary issues for you, Walmart now has a few options that work well for a beginner synthetic underquilt. They can easily be made even by hand sewing a large...
A third vote for the Chill Gorilla stuff. I bought a couple of the tarps to use on my deck at home to cut sun, and they are now on year three of full-time three season use without falling apart. I...
I hung mine from the ceiling for a while (standard 50s house, ceiling is about 7 1/2 feet). Yes, I like more sag on the mayan and latin american hammocks. They are meant to be stretchy and conform to...
Looking forward to it. Packed and ready. All that's left is the driving!
Delaware Water Gap area, the tippy toppest part of Northampton County. I get to Bucks once in a while, mostly Lake Nockamixon these days.
Anybody got the red bra flag?
I don't think I want to go that long, but I haven't driven one yet, so... I was aiming for about a 14 footer for now, I think. I need to load by myself at home and maneuvering a really big boat would...
See you tomorrow afternoon! Silver Kia Soul from PA, so far with an empty kayak rack...
Great! I'll probably have a lot. I've got a friend who's got one for sale, but I wasn't that enamoured with it when I tried it out. I think I need to taste some others first. Coming from whitewater...
I'm in the market for a longer boat, so I am only bringing my kayak gear, not the boat, and I hope I get lucky with a used boat. Trouble is, I've never had a long boat, so don't exactly know what I'm...
Looking forward to it and hoping for the bad weather to miss us. I'm hoping to be there by Thursday for supper.
choking hazard. use a quick-release buckle as found on ID lanyards.
I've bought some battery operated ones at the local dollar store, dragonfly, stars and other shapes available. I just have to keep the battery case somewhere it won't get wet. But for $1, DIY doesn't...
Welcome to the forum. You probably did pretty well for your first "accidental" hammock choices. You've probably skipped a lot of the learning curve. The big one is going right to any kind of...
Little Girl power! Bringin' 'em up right!
I'm in for bundle #3.

So sorry to hear we lost a long time member who contributed greatly to an awesome group. Send my condolences to the family with the assurance that his presence on the trail...
I'm using 1" EMT for my stand. No issues except for end to end sway if you move around in the hammock. It's not much, though. A friend who goes about 250 used it with no problems.
