Nice suspension PG.
Have you considered using a four loop prussick instead of just a larks head. Mine hasnt slipped in three or four uses. Takes away need for slip knot perhaps?
Cheers
Bloffy
Nope. Nearest is 400+km away. I am soooooooo alone....
Bloffy:scared::crying
I'm now a designated location in the approximate vicinity of my humble abode. Gunna search around for anyone else in the region.

I have a HH which has a small tab for hooking their mat to. I use an UQ so tab is surplus to needs.
A few years ago, I had the same zipper problem but a mate of mine had overcome it with a piece of...
@Sphinx: Normally I try to avoid an alarm clock but as I was "camping" in the backyard as a trial and it was Sunday night, I, unfortunately, had to go to work on Monday. Hence the cursed alarm...
I'm just a newby but this is what I recently put together.
https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php/119415-A-no-hardware-suspension-idea
It works and weighs about 7 grams total in 7/64...
@ rty1138. I have only just built my first UCR with a prussick and hung out for one night so I am not an expert by any means but my understanding is that the prussick only assists the ucr to stop...
Okay, the verdict is in.
I set the hammock up yesterday and hit the sack about 10pm. I wouldn't have been there 10 minutes when the low rumble of thunder heralded the arrival of the rain that fell...
G'day Sidney,
I will have to get my teenage son to help me do that but soon as I work out how, happy to do so.

Wohoo. My experiment was a success.
I spent the better part of this afternoon climbing in, out and over my hammock.
After some practice, from pulling my hammock out of my pack to laying in it...
Okay, got the scales and tape out.
My minimum length of each UCR is about 25 inches, or for those of us in the modern world, about 64cm. That is from the hammock eyelet to the soft shackle, not...
Ha, had to postpone until today. Went out property hunting and didnt get hkme until way after dark. Then a lightning storm came through so, while it would have been a good test by putting it up in...
Waking up on a bright, sunny morning under a red, yellow or orange tarp would do my head in.Hence why I have a muted brown.
Set up under a nice shady tree and the brown takes on the dappled colours...
Either I have done an awesome job on this, or no one is interested in giving any feedback because it is not even worth writing about. Lol.
Please let me know what you think. Dear wife of mine will...
Ok, ta, it might be my antiquated excel system
I will try another system

Daneaustin, that is sage advice. I am back home tonight after being away for a few days. I hope I will be able to get out in the backyard this weekend and test it. I am going to lay a mattress down...
Fixed.
Sorry guys, when it comes to technology I paddle a good canoe...
Firstly a quick explanation about the above post.
I submitted this as is to the Bushcraft Oz site, so please don't think I...
Bugga, sorry guys, the pix didn't work. I will try to rectify
A no hardware suspension idea comes to fruition
G'day guys,
I have been chipping away at an idea for some time and I think I have come up with a solution.
I've designed and built a no hardware...
G'day all. Went to open this calculator but, despite trying it on two computers, was unsuccessful. Is it just me or is this corrupted?
If so, does anyone have a working version please?
@ GadgetUK: Thanks for all that. I will probably go with the 6-7 ft UCR as I learn more.
I have added that page of tutorials and calculators. An invaluable tool which I will investigate more as I...

G'day FreakinJohn.
Thanks for that. I agree about the prussik knot but it also releases easily.
I almost always test anything new in the backyard laboratory. I have had some great succeses, a...
Thanks Dane,
I pulled the trigger on 15m(~50ft) of 7/64th amsteel (black) and the same in Lashit (1.75mm) in grey from SimonMc from Tiergear.com last night so I hopefully will have a Christmas...
@ canahang: I'm sorta stuck on the idea of the no hardware approach and I like the idea of the UCRs. I will follow this idea through and, if it doesn't work, I can always put the old system back on,...
G'day Canahang. That's great.
I've actually been hanging since about 2007, but have mainly just stuck with the basic HH set up. On my previous ultra light, I had a strap set up wahich I had a...
Sometimes in Australia, you dont get too much choice. The decent trees might be that bit too far apart and you have to put up with a wide hang. Not often but enough that it is a regular...
A nice little Christmas nest egg.

Thanks Canahang, you must have written this as I answered the others so I only just saw this.
One of the things I must admit I have NO knowledge of is how to work out how much line I actually...
@ Walksin2trees: thats nice and simple and would work well on either end. Like the idea of the figure 8 (maybe on the bight) to give a good sized finger grip if it's cold and wet. Going to oull the...
Shock cord on one end would be good idea as a shock absorber.
My thinking is that as the tarp is tied off close to the tree anyway that there would be minimal movement unless the tree bends (had...
Thanks all. Appreciate your feedback.
@gfstanley. Those videos are great but I think he overcomplicates some of the knots etc. I do love the idea of a prussick adjuster and would look at a...
G'day all,
I'm a long time lurker, small time poster and a hanger for about eight years.
I'm normally over at BushcraftOz but when you need expert advice, you go to the pros, so I am hoping...
Hey all,
Did I commit a foopar or something? I had a post here about turning a Thermos into a cookset and it has been moved or removed. I apologise if I did something wrong, unknowingly.
I just...
Nice outcome.
I had a similar sort of experience with Hennessy Hammocks.
I ordered a hyperlite A-sym and associated fly.
When I received it, the fly was stuck together very badly like it had been...
Chatooga. Oops slip of the fingers. Hope it didn't cause offence. You are welcome to use but remember to pay royalties when you do.:D
I was out with my scout troop last night and it was cooler, wet...
G'day from an Australian Scout Leader. Scout name is Digger. 3rd Albany Scouts, Stirliing District, Western Australia.
Just really getting into hammocks myself but hope to get my troop to hang out...

Okay, a bit of an update on this idea.
I got my Long-Suffering but Ever-Loving Wife to cut out a piece of Tyvek (I think it is called something different here in Australia but we're talking about...
I have been looking at your blog.
Sensational. What a journey. Truly pioneering stuff. Most envious in the nicest way.
A few questions if you don't mind.
Firstly, what gear did you carry?
Apart...
Hot night here last night (for Albany, at least), my Dearly Beloved took a couple of days to go see her mum, and I had a late start at work because of Australia Day (Like Thanksgiving, only more...
Friartuck. Breath in, breath out, hold your breath slightly as you gently bring pressure onto the trigger. The report should almost come as a surprise. Well done, you just made the shot. The position...
Hey Gunner,
Well noted about the jerry can. We had one of the parents drop some water off on Sunday arvo as there is no suitable water source nearby. The fresh water is quite some distance off and...
G'day all,
Took a group of scouts on a weekend camp to a beautiful spot called Waychinicup National Park in Western Australia.
I had been there before with my four wheel drive club but I hadn't...
Just a thought, how would a protective sleeve go over the hangers? Then when they wear out, chuck them and put on another. hhmmmm. My ever suffering wife has MORE sewing to do.:scared:
Cheers Bloffy
Alright, big smiles in our house, at least from me anyway.
My AHE cinch buckles kit arrived from America today.
Now I just have to hook them on and away I go. Just a shame they didn't arrive before...
Thanks for the offer Browny but I have the straps enroute as we speak. I think WA trees must have abrasive bark or something as the cords on my HH are frayed and worn, and I have done two sets of...
G'day Matt,
I'm a nooby here myself and come from Albany.
There are a few WA folk on here. I have a Hennessy Hammock Ultralite Asym and think it's pretty good. Would be keen to see a WBBB.
Cheers...
