I bought the Hangtime Hook on the Warbonnet web site so I just clip my phone to that, tune into some YouTube videos and I’m all set
I have the hangtime hook for my ridgeline so if I have cell service, I’ll just pop up YouTube and enjoy a few videos
I’m also a fan of using shoe laces. Easy to take on and off and work great
Very nice work!
I found the soft shackle by TacBlades to be the one easiest for me to tie so +1
The problem I have with mine is that you need trees to set it up which means you can’t have it by the fire, etc. Mine is comfortable enough, but I just like the flexibility of a camp chair when...
Dutch’s side entry tarp looks pretty innovative :). I haven’t bought one yet but I do have a spreader bar bug net which is another innovative product that I’m glad I bought
Antiquated or not Shug, I am very thankful for all the information I have leaned through this forum (and of course your videos) . It’s amazing the diversity of the information there is on here not...
Have you tried Dutchware Gear? They are actually a few dollars cheaper than Ripstop and for synthetic down, I have used their ‘UP’ insulation and what I like about it is that it handles just like...
I also have the wide rectangle tarp and I took it on our Boy Scout high adventure trip to Philmont and I concur that the tarp is huge. I was looking for a light weight alternative for our dining fly...
I honestly don’t remember and I just buy a bottle or 2 at a time because I only hike about once or twice a month so I don’t go through it that fast
I actually use Everclear with my cat food can alcohol stove. I started using it after watching a video of someone carrying fuel in a water bottle and I figured knowing me, I would drink it by...
I know we’ve talked about camping in the area there, just haven’t been able to do it yet
189879 There are definitely trees there. My son in law and I were hiking there around Thanksgiving. Not sure what the camping situation is, but it’s a gorgeous area
I have made a few TQs with UP and it’s a lot easier to work with than down however it’s definitely heavier and doesn’t keep me as warm. I made them for some Scout trips where I knew it was going to...
I finally got a chance this weekend to try out my spreader bar bug net and I really like it. It not only kept the bug net off my face when laying in the hammock but it made getting in and out of my...
Like cougarmeat said, I’d go with a cross piece as well. I was using 4x4s for a while until one day one of them just snapped. Now I use 6x6s just for that little ‘extra’ insurance
One of my favorite places to go is Round Valley. It’s about a 4 mile hike in around the reservoir. The cost of the sites are not bad.
I’m only 5’8 but I’d be interested in it. :)
Not sure if it helps but check your hang angle. I have the WBBB, not the XLC and I found that if I don’t have my foot end 16 inches higher than my head end that I don’t get the right diagonal lay.
Hi George, it’s great to hear that your health is much improved. Also, it’s great news to hear you are reopening again. Definitely a big announcement!:)
By taper I mean the width at the head end is wider than the foot. Mine is the same at both ends here the ‘real’ wookie I have is wider at the head end than the foot which would save on the amount of...
First, my wookie is tapered to the foot end which minimizes the amount of material and down used whereas I went with the same width from head to foot. The other thing is that I didn’t allow enough...
I haven’t made a lot of UQs but Argon 90 is 58 - 60 inches wide and I wouldn’t think you would need to go any wider. It’s all just extra fabric weight and I’m thinking it all depends on how much of...
I used Argon 90 from Dutch and kept it the full width with generous hems
What I did was to basically make my first layer the same way I made a hammock only a little shorter running shock cord through the end channels. Then I sewed the baffles at the angle that I lay at...
I made a top quilt using Argon 90 but instead of using Apex Climashield, I used ‘UP’ from Dutch and it turned out pretty nice. It behaves pretty much like down does.
I did the reverse, the fixed loop of the whoopies over the mantis clips and the adjustable part of the whoopie I attached to my hammock continuous loop using a Dutch biner
I tried mantis clips and found they were a pain to work with getting them through the daisy chain loops so I stuck with my Warbonnet beaners. I do like the flexibility of the daisy chains and...
Very nice build!
I was just looking at Wharton myself for our scout troop. I haven’t been down there in a long time since I am in central NJ so I might take a trip down there next weekend to take a look around. ...
Very nice. I like the tree feel
But my question is, can too much overfill hurt instead of help. What I mean is that from my understanding is that down keeps you warm by trapping air that your body warms. Now, if you have too much...
Excellent video. The stove turned out nice
Thoughts and prayers for a fast recovery!
Thank you jcksparow. I was wondering what size zipper and 121 is the same size I used so I am looking forward to seeing how a top cover works out. Appreciate the info.
I did the same thing and sewed my bugnet by watching Jellyfish’s videos but Shug’s post gave me an idea I might try on my next DIY hammock. Dutch sells their asym bugnet for $35 I might buy that...
Really nice! What type of footbox did you end up, going with?
Dutch used to sell .275 poles which work great for me and are lighter. He has a few male poles in the closeouts but none of the female poles
And as Phantom said, it’s really nice to hear from you again :)
I made a hammock from fabric I got from Dutch called Dobby 1.9. I don’t see it in his regular down proof calendared fabric anymore but he has some in the close out / remnants section. I used it for...
Whenever I am using my DIY hammock, I use the summer sock by Dutch. I like it because it gives me both bug protection and is an UQP that gives me a few extra degrees of warmth.
My. Tammany is one of my favorite places to go. Especially when training for Philmont (Boy Scout High Adventure). It’s definitely beautiful there :)
These pictures are just awesome!
Welcome to the forum :)
I turn 59 next month and it’s thanks to hammocking that I can still get out there because it’s just so hard nowadays to get up off the ground even with a good pad. I am dreading our Boy Scout trip...
Would there be any way to put in an option for showing head end height vs. foot end height such as having the foot 1 foot higher? Not sure if something like this was ask before.
Excellent job
Very nice!
