Sorry I missed this one again. Had too many other things going on over the weekend. Looks like it was a good time.
Looks like I should be able to make it to this one.
I plan on bringing a stand or two, I made up carry bags for them yesterday from some old jeans.
I can also help with the am steel loops and...
Would love to join on this one, but doesn't work with the schedule. Please keep me posted about future events (I saw the New Glarus Sept30 posting)
I would like to get out with the group again. I'll have to check with the scheduler :)
If I'm able I could also bring extra gear, including extra stand if we run out of good trees, or someone...
Already booked that weekend. But sure do want to be in on another of these again in the future.
+1
did the same on mine
I'll take some if any above me backs out.
I for one don't find first hang (or most any of the other hang) posts boring :)
Check the following thread for an option.

Welcome from Madison area.
I'm interested, but really won't know until closer to the dates select if it will work.
Portable stand, such as the Hammeck stand, or a DIY stand such as my BiPod stand

There was talk about another one before winter, but nothing has been set yet. Watch the other thread and it likely link to any future hangs scheduled.
It was a great weekend for it. I'm glad my test hang was successful so that I felt comfortable coming out for Saturday night. Thanks for the home brew Goobie, it was good. I'll have to get my...
I'm hoping to make it for saturday.
I'll have my stand so don't worry about saving trees for me.
Welcome.
except for the fact you are already committed this weekend, there is a group hang....
West Marine periodically has it on sale as well. normally $0.29 / foot
I got my last round of it on sale for $0.17/foot. and free shipping after $50.
there are also some bipod stands that have been made. I have an example of one here: https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php/114464-Canopy-parts-stand-(carport-tent-parts)-(bipod-stand)...
And that it is more compressible.
If you are using chainlink top rail, the standard end fittings together is fine for 3 sections probably even 4 sections as long as you are hanging from very near the same point the poles are hanging...
I haven't seen anyone with adjustable turtledog stand, but you could do one of the bipod stand options and then have short legs, with add-on leg piece for indoors. You would probably want to put...
Yes, welcome from another nearby.
If you are available, you should check out the hang at the end of Sept. You don't need to stay, can just come and visit (thats what I did end of July at a group...
When i tested the yukon bugnet I bought last go around, I found that it is a little bit on the small size for my Trek Light Double, it should work in a pinch though. I'm sure it is fine for the...

Having seen mention of using the 1 3/8 inch canopy fittings from tarps.com but not having actually seen the results, here is my version and the story to go with it.
We have used a 10x20 carport...
Yes, I have used the fittings from tarps.com. I will be posting pictures of it soon, I used the High peak with center pole. (I have both the end version and the middle version) and it worked great. ...

Thank you, hope to share with others in the future.
I know someone in the past mentioned having snapped a 4x4 post while hanging.
I know many others though hang from 4x4 without issue, so it may vary depending the quality of your materials, or...
do you have a ridgeline on your hammock? Shug has a new video all about it if you do not.
Ridgeline video
If you do have one, you may to change the length to help get a flatter lay.
I think unless you use a lot of magnets you may not get a good tight seal to keep out the wind.
You could certainly do a hybrid of them. use your hitch mount T bar to be one end of the turtlelady / turtledog stand and hang the compressive load bar (or bamboo) from it with the other end hung by...
I think your sketch ideas should work out with the correct materials.
You might be better with separate tarps though, you could anchor to the bottom of the truck.
If you are concerned about the...
Others have report issues with the loop on the end cap breaking. better to loop suspension over the bar and rest against the eye bolt.
Was nice to meet all of you out there at the shelter. Maybe next time will be able to do the overnight hang.
check out the TurtleDog stand, a pretty simple inexpensive DIY project. a couple hinges, some 2x2 boards (or 2x4s cut in half, or 2x3) and a chainlink fence top rail section. there is mighty long...

Awesome!! Thank you!!
Stingerz please. (PM reply with info)
I think it could be a good option for a couple with child, can easier keep everyone together and under one tarp without resorting to stacking. A 12x12 would probably do pretty well for it.
So, the question is, how does this change the hang calculator numbers?
Site says 112" between the hooks. so if your ridgeline in 112" or less should work fine .83 x 11 ft is 109"
Not sure on how they are calculating safe limit though.
that should work if you get the measurements right. the only concern i have with that style of stand is the beam underneath you if there is any type of failure. landing on the floor may hurt, but...
Yes, get a UQ for daughter and use the bag as a top quilt, that way she wouldn't toss it. If it is too warm vent the UQ a bit.
may want to get an UQ for future size so she doesn't outgrow it and...

Same here. I think they really need to start doing that again.
Unless you are all toting a lot of extra gear, I'll bet the kids probably carry more to school than if they toted all their gear themselves.
I'll participate...
Several years ago we camped when we went to the Midwest Renewable Energy Fair. We had a two person tent with rain fly and ground tarp. It showed us how having the proper...

post #17 gives the idea, no drawings though.
Thanks for the great gear Dutch, and the great guide Derek.
Someone in the past had posted having putting up 2x4s or 4x4s in the corners then a beam connecting them and hanging from the beam. has the same basic structure as a stand, but without the...
Congrats on 50+ posts. I'm still working my way there. but not posting just to get my count up there.
Entry made :)
