I sleep outside most night with my hammock stand, my expedition hennessy hammock, and my kelty noah 12foot tarp. Last night after lots of rain during the day I noticed the inside of my hammock...
This is the first I've heard of a hammock sock. The wind is so fast around my house that it literally rocks me in the hammock so I don't think a hammock sock would work. I can't sleep if the wind is...
Thanks for the advice nothermark. I actually need a entirely new tarp since the stock tarp for my HH tore on one side. I'd rather not have to buy a new tarp AND a griz beak.
Usually when it comes...
Thanks for the suggestion Paul. That is a nice looking tarp. Yes, definitely pricey. I have a feeling a tarp that surrounds you on all sides like that one would just flap around in the wind like...
I try to sleep outside in my HH expedition every chance I get but where I live I get constant wind and the tarp that came with the HH literally just tore from the wind. The cord guideline on the side...
They are just carabiners. On each end of the fence post are these little fence post caps which cover the sharp edges of the fence post. These caps also have a place where you can feed through some...
Here's the stand for those that wanted to see.

The webbing stretched more and more over time until it eventually pulled apart and snapped.
I have always used cheap store bought webbing to use on my hammock trips. Usually the ones from hardware stores. When I go on 1-2 trips in the mountains they do just fine and I've these for months...
My friend's jungle hammock took a little more than a month also. Tom is pretty fast for e-mails, but he had no idea why the hammock took more than his "15 days of shipping".
Oh well.
My crazy friend with his clark jungle does the same thing. I never have a camera around when he does it though. He also has a way of getting into a top entry hammock from the bottom... again, I need...
Okay, so I will try a slip knot next time I hang the hammock.
Other than that I notice my HH Exped. always loosens very... very easy with the ring buckle system. Example: I will hang the...
Very glad to hear cheap and comfortable in the same message.
I've gotten down to 15F in snow hangin' in a hammock. I did not have proper winter clothes then so it was more of a survival test...
The last time I went winter camping I fell on my butt twice from the ring buckles loosening up. I'm curious as to what knots work the best to stop the webbing from sliding. Usually I just tie like...
Totally stoked. You basically just got an explorer at half the price. I'd be jumping off the walls.
Yeah, I have a bunch of byer traveler hammock that I keep as spares. They look like they could work, but I'm not sure about the insulation. Maybe I could just get some breathable material and sew it...
I would go to Lowes/Home Depot if they possess a ring or cinch buckle that is STRONG enough... I just wanted to see if anyone else had gotten strong hardware from these places. I just wanted to make...
So you see my dilemma
Thanks guys. Camping opportunities don't come along very much are when they do I don't get much notice. I'm still learning so a lot of times I have researched and learned of a useful piece of gear,...
what a wuss
jk I'm the say way;) . I would love to use a underquilt, but I'm having a little trouble on the DIY area so pads are what I use currently.
Snow cave is much warmer and wouldn't even need a hammock :-)
but I'm intrigued with the idea of a hammock-igloo
I am having trouble finding a local store in my area that has something along the line of a cinch buckle or rings to be used in a support system for my hammock.
There has to be something out...
My hammock is the only reliable piece of gear that I look forward too, actually. Clothes, weather, weight, and other things make a trip difficult. Never the hammock. Hammock is the relief.
I don't...
Under my feet is 2-3 feet of snow... I'm not digging through that for leaves... oh no sir and/or madam
plus when I do dig down to the mountain floor I would find that evergreens don't drop leaves...
Can I get these rings or cinch buckles from a local hardware store?
it's winter and I'm up in the mountains so I can't get no leaves :-)
I have a spare hammock for newbie buddies to use: (Byer Parachute Traveller Hammock)

Is there a way to turn this hammock into an underquilt to be...
My friend owns a claytor jungle hammock and we're going to do some winter camping in the future. The problem that I see with his hammock is that there are numerous, little ropes to tie up. Of course...
I enjoy going with others as I'm still rather inexperienced and help is always appreciated and of course returned.
I backpack in a national forest so campfires are illegal so I don't have that...
Just got back from a snow trip :-) 3.7 miles in thigh deep snow uphill was a experience I'll remember.
Man, I need some snow shoes.
2 weeks sure would have been nice:(
I own an HH so I don't need another hammock. I would like to try the jungle because it looks interesting, but that's about it. I don't got the money to buy...
No thanks. A local REI sells those tarps so I'm good.
Could you take a picture of the how you attached the two ends to the tree? Is there just a hole on each end for you to wrap some rope through and then around the tree?
Everyone that has a jungle hammock (and lives in the US). How long did it take for the hammock to ship to you?
My friend has one coming and he's been waiting 3 weeks. I'm just curious to know,...
Very good to know, thanks guys.
Can I pick up some of this thread at a fabric store? I checked out a local store the other day and the best I found was a 60% nylon 40% polyester thread. Everything else is just polyester.
What is the best thread material to use to sew the loops on your tree huggers?
Thanks for finding the photos :-)
Yeah, it looks simple enough now. Four pieces of rope altogether. Two for the side tiedowns and one for each end of the tarp to tie to the tree. I think...
My friend ordered this jungle hammock and he's been waiting for almost 3 weeks now... Well, I'm glad you got yours fast :)
I noticed the straps were nylon and only 1/2 inch after my friend...
Not d-rings ah ha ha, I was thinking of something else.
I'll just need a bunch of little pieces of rope to make it tight.
I woudn't pay the money for slapstraps. I was just pleasantly surprised by the length:)
All I have right now is nylon webbing so for the sake of the trees I'll just that. I'll order some...
9'6"..... Wow!
At this moment I can make 2 six feet long tree huggers so until maybe after Christmas, that's all I can do. I'm thinking it should work most of the time, but in some parts of the...
Oh BTW. Anyone know if the webbing on the jungle is attached to the hammock? I'm just curious.
Stock HH huggers look to be only like 4feet in length and that don't cut, cause most of the time I don't have the luxury of finding small trees in the mountains.
Dang, looks like I need to use some extra D-rings and rope just to stretch the tarp out. All that little stuff adds up.
I looking to buy this and I can't seem to find a picture of the tarp in actual use with trees. All of the pictures I've seen just show the tarp set up with poles at ends holding it up.
I would...
Just picked up a Byer parachute travel hammock (the one you are talking about for $17) and I'm gonna use it as a backup for the buddies of mine who don't own a hammock for camping.
Happy Turkey Day! Gonna camp on Friday with some turkey sandwiches. Here Mr. Bear:D
-I have 111 posts. Good lord I'm on here a lot!
Hey, found some webbing at Wally's world! Except, it doesn't say what it's made of... and it's in a package.
Doesn't look like nylon, but I'm not gonna chance that.
Hey I found some carabiners at Walmart that say they hold weight up to 700lbs.
They don't say anything about climbing. So, is 700lbs good enough?
