Suppose this would get you through one of those "Frozen Butt" hangs?
...
One of the problems you run into with that is that most government owned natural areas don't allow placing of caches. Might be less restrictive in some county or city owned camping areas but most...
Try a tear-away backer. I had the same problem. The fabric just wasn't gripping the thread to make a loop for the machine to pick up when going slow for some reason. Backer helped out.
1st hammock was a Byers Mosquito Traveler with a sewn on bug net that always seemed to find a way to hang in my face. My solution was to go to my pile of stuff from my "Wire Pulling" days and dig out...
What irks me is the guy who neglects to bring stuff then since YOU got extra, wants to take the better of what you got. Or complains about what you lent him when he'd be worse off without it. That...
I more often than not use tapestry needles.
Thanks folks. Got one of those rotary cutters - NICE! got to find my chisel points for my old 40w soldering iron, gonna give that a try as well. Cutting mat I already had (much like our beloved Shug,...
Now, I have made a few Tablecloth hammocks and they seemed to work out pretty good. Then I got a hold of this nice thread injector and thought I would make me some even better ones. So I fire up the...
Been wanting to delve a little deeper into the DIY area for a while now. Already have some fabric (cart before the horse!) and just got my hands on a new Singer 4432. Advice from dear old Mom - I got...
Instaflator has been around for a while. Sometimes can come pretty cheap. Other times ridiculously priced. Usually carried in pool supply stores.
Saw that in one of your winter hanging vids and thought it was a great idea, especially for some of those a little "squeamish" about taking a squat in the woods (my wife, youngest daughter...).
Got mine today! The aforementioned bonus goodies also included will come in very handy for valentine's gifts for my daughters - Thank you!
Another added bonus - one of them had a large (1 x 1.5...
He mentioned possibly adding some stitching to aid in the "Shear" (peel) strength. I wonder if just a bar tack at each end would help prevent the "peel" from starting...?
Wow! If there are any left, 2 for me please.....
Sure! I am in!
Intriguing, I am in.
Now, why didn't I think of that? (How many of us said that!?). Good on ya man! Now I gotta wait for the wife to go to work so I can tear one apart...I'll blame it on one of her several cats....
Hoot sold a bunch of gear and I was lucky enough to pick up a large compression sack that I received today in the mail. It's perfect! Fantastic price on it. And now I am in good stead with the...
I'll take the "Big Compression Sack Mil Spec"
The only real criticism I have is that the vids are WAY TOO SHORT! We DIY gear junkies want to see "start to finish". Bolt of cloth, spools of thread, hank of rope, to finished product. How else are...
I'm in.......................
Sometimes we forget lessons we learned, or should have, long ago. DOUBLE CHECK YOUR WORK!
Added what I interpreted as the "Knotty Mod" to my blue, table cloth, DIY hammock. Added reinforcing...
You must be psychic. Was perusing the web looking entry level models and messaging my dear old mother to see if she still has one of her old ones. She just got new machines (yep, more than one) a...
Went to our local pharmacy to fill some 'scripts, and as I was leaving, I went down their little "discount aisle". I saw this laundry bag hanging up there and thought I could probably do something...
Found it. Page 6.

I was just reading online about splicing Amsteel and related cordage. It might have even been a tech paper on the Samson site. I'll have to find it again. If I remember correctly, they were talking...
Now THAT'S a "Water Bed" !
I'm in. Would come in handy
This is a 60x126 with 10ft UCRs on each end.

Spot on Mountnman, spot on! Well, first I re-whipped one end, making the edges even on that end, left the other "cupped" so to speak. Then I measured and added a ridge line. Huge difference. Not as...
Tried angles from 25 to 45 degrees on the hang. Didn't make a whole lot of difference as far as that "tubular" feeling goes. I'll keep messing with it. Maybe redo one end and reduce the amount of...
Made another one. All blue this time. 60x126 table cloth and 7/64 Amsteel. This time I fan folded the ends and I used a needle and poly thread to just tack them together to hold everything kind of in...
Reading all the DIY stuff here I got that itch to try it out so I ordered up some table cloths and went with 7/64 Amsteel. Tried the technique of passing the rope through the hem. That didn't work...
Had that happen the other day with 1/8 Amsteel Blue. I hadn't made sure my taught line hitch was extended out and "taught". It didn't grab so the bury never got tightened down on. Ooops! That said,...
One year ago on a BWCA canoe trip
Yeah, if the sectional pole was a little more limber it would work better, as it is the slight curve it imparts is only 3 or 4 inches higher in the center than the ends and it is way too stiff to try...
4 cats and a wife who considers them her furry children... That stuff stays hung up downstairs at least overnight, with a fan blowin' on it! And it don't come up to the "living quarters" unless it...
I love a challenge! This is doable, but, it takes some extra to get it done. Dug out the old 10x10 Coleman dome tent and snagged that rain fly. This fly covers the sides of the tent and is kind of in...
Well if you like to read the technical stuff....http://www.samsonrope.com/Documents/Technical%20Papers/TP_Inspection%20Criteria%20for%20HMPE%20Rope.pdf or the inspection areas of this paper...
Exactly what I was thinking. Pretty cheap for fabric. But, no joy at our local Target....:(
Kinda like Bank Line I would think. Should work. Lord knows I used braided dacron, spiderwire, fireline, and the like for stuff other than fishing... Only problem I can think of is this stuff is...
RELAX fellas! I took physics in high school, and college; 32 years in the USAF (and still going). I've secured more than my fair share of "Static" loads on aircraft and a few "Dynamic" rigs that got...
Anybody else do this? Even the so called "No-Stretch" cordage has what they call ELONGATION. Especially when new and hasn't had a load on its full length. Nice thing is, it ain't very elastic like...
It's usually around 15% "shrinkage". So if you bury line through 10 inches the resulting "bury" will be about 8.5 inches long. If you HAVE the have 10 inches inside then mark entry and exit 11.75...
Welcome from another Iowa Noob... What part if the State? NW here, near Sioux City.
I think you're right. I watched video where guys were using #5 knitting needles as a fid on 7/64. I have 1/8 in cordage and had trouble getting a #3 knitting needle to pass though more than 3 or 4...
Yep, it's just the black. The silver/grey and the green are working out fine. Was wanting to make my main UCRS out of black cuz that would match the hammock ends. That wasn't gonna work out anyway...
Seems to be working OK with the "silver/grey". The black, nope. It's almost like some of the fibers from the strands are stuck together inside the "hollow". Haven't tried the green yet.
Got 100 feet of 1/8 in today. Actually more like 130 since all three colors were from the end of spools and they just gave me the extra.
If I didn't know any better, I'd swear this stuff has a...
