I recently ordered the A SilPoly MacCat Deluxe ... I ordered on December 24th ... and received it on Jan 28th ... Took quite a while, but wth X-mas and New Year's in there ... so it's kind of a wash....
Is there an advantage using the 72 inch fabric on a 10 foot hammock? Or does it make more sense to go with the 60 inch stuff on a 10 footer?
For sale my 65 Liter Fjallraven Abisko backpack! It's been used 5 or 6 times including a trip to the BWCA. There are some minor scuffs on the mesh side pockets, but otherwise no damage or other...
technically the lid is removable ... but not very easily. And you could maybe shorten the straps a bit ... but thats about it.

my favorite pillow is the "cub" by arrowhead equipment!
It's just the right size, hangs by shock cord from the ridgeline, and compresses down reasonably small!

Best knot ever!!
omg omg omg!
if the hammock has a channel you should just be able to run your loop through it and then larks-head back onto itself... and that's it.
Generally you would only wrap around the outside if there is...

I used skins on both tarp and hammock for several seasons ... eventually I got sick of screwing around with them and reverted to just using the stuff sacks the tarp and hammock came in.

There is an iOS app for the SHT that shows a lot of popular hikes

I've used bank line ... which is similar to mason line but it's coated with a petroleum product of some kind. It smells faintly of kerosene maybe... Anyway it works pretty well, holds a knot well and...
just my 2 cents ...
Get a full length underquilt asap!
Check out the Warbonnet BlackBird XLC ... it's a bit more roomy and has removable bugnet and top-cover!
I myself have the regular version...
I haven't noticed any significant slippage with the v1's ... they seem pretty rock solid for my 205 lbs.
I have noticed that you really need to firmly set the loop tho.
I had always wondered if the sleeping bag in the bug net thing would work.... it's awesome that you guys figured it out!
+1 for the AHE Cub Pillow ... it's the perfect hammock pillow!
Congrats and good luck!
Awesome thanks!!!
very cool!
I believe the river bottoms (at least the mississippi) are generally considered "Public land", in which case the "Leave no trace" rules apply for dispersed camping. Can anyone confirm this?
I did exactly this last year .... I added 5 oz Climashield Apex to my pluq... Honestly ... yes it is a BIT more bulky than a new apex UQ ... but not really that much. It still packs down pretty...
Dutch also makes a suspension system that receives a spreader pole which keeps the 2 hammocks apart.

Yes definitely want to have your feet above your head and the looser the hammock, in general, the better. What I've found is that when my legs start to feel squished or uncomfortable I pull my feed...
I just bought a Yukon with bugnet for my son (10) for xmas... woot has them again ... $32 bucks shipped, you're not going to find a better deal!

Here's the best compilation of links I could find... taken from another thread.
I went on my first BWCA trip, my canoe partner was an old friend from high school ... he slept in an ENO the entire time and I slept on the ground! Went home and immediately bought a Grand Trunk...
So ... the hammock itself didn't get wet at all? But the material was just cold?
I guess I've noticed the hammock material does stay pretty cool ... but not the parts that are covered by the UQ...
I have a 25* apex new river ... I'm a fairly hot sleeper but that 25* seems pretty conservative to me! More like 20* I'd say. I'd have to assume the 10* is pretty much in the same boat!
Also the...
prof hammock says you can just do an overhand loop as well .. however you'll probably never get that knot out like you might a bowline :D
Generally they say 25*
Are darts even really needed with the apex quilts? I think the KAQ are pretty much rectangular and flat, no? What's the advantage to the darting?
+1 to the cord at the bottom ... it's a good idea regardless. I'd also like to point out that the angle makes the stand taller than it needs to be. So if you want to put it indoors or something, that...
I agree this sort of thing is not cool... they are perpetuating misconceptions about hammocking. Personally I had to figure all this stuff out on my own. Only to find hammockforums.net afterwords ......
I sleep on my side in a 10' WBB about 50% of the time ... other 50 is on my back
I never clean my straps either. It flakes off soon enough.
Generally I need to make sure the head end is a couple of inches lower than the foot end ... but that's in the Blackbird. I have no experience with ENO :(
Looks like there is plenty of sag to me ... that may change once they are loaded tho.
Also, are you laying diagonally, this makes a huge difference? Assuming you are laying diagonally.... I would...
Yeah, I'd say 40* - 45* on the double layer PLUQ ... so long as you can keep it fairly snug under you. It would probably be a chilly 40 degrees tho!
I've gone from a hardware store poly tarp, to a 10 x 10 nylon, to a 8 x 8 nylon, to a MacCat Standard ... and am now considering a SF!
I have nothing but good to say for the MacCat Standard ... It...
Did you mean single ridge line vs double ridge line?
I've been struggling with this question myself. Lately I've ended up bringing both. If there is high wind, heavy rain or some other extreme...
Love this stuff... I've used it to patch tears in tarps and rain gear several times. I prefer the CLEAR color, also on rain gear and tarps at least ... tape the UNDER SIDE ... not the top or outer...
I also had trouble with my first few eye splices. Also found best results using about 18 inches of thin wire folded in half, and wrapped around a 3 inch long wooden dowel for a "T" handle. This works...
+1 on the SeaToSummit eVent Dry sacks ... I use several different sizes. They are the best!
That being said, I agree that it's best to pack your UQ and TQ down into the bottom of your pack inside...
