I will go over on Friday morning and secure sites. I will cut some firewood, and bring it, too.
Nov 13 is the Texas hang. I will be there.
I checked out the park. Clean, well maintained, plenty of primitive tent sites with lots of trees. $12/nite/tent. I asked about hammocks, and that...
^^I live on Lake Eufaula. There are no trails, but there are miles of shoreline with no development on them, and I have never, in over 20 years, seen any sort of law enforcement presence. Be smart,...
I live about 5 miles from Fountainhead SP...afaik, it stays open year round. It's full of good hanging trees, too.
Last night, while watching the eclipse, I slipped on a hoodie for comfort. Fall is coming!
Here's another. It's about Wiggy's, but can be applied more broadly to most other synthetics.
There have been a number of discussions on this topic in years past. The takeaway, for me, at least, is that synthetic insulation when wet, still isn't very wet, will still keep you warm, and will...
I get by w/o a net by spraying everything but me with permethrin, and being picky about where I hang. I find nets intolerably hot.
Before committing to a site, recommend a scouting trip or a phone call, to make sure they have recovered from high water. I was @ Tishomingo NWR last weekend, and it looked like Chernobyl. I'm not...
The trees @ Osage Hills aren't great for hanging, but a few could make it work. Proximity to the Tallgrass Prarie is a big plus, however. Nice day trip.
I have a lightly used Hammeck 400 Stand that I have declared excess, and can deliver to the hang. PM me for details.
Love that stuff!
I have a jar of green chili salsa from Hatch, NM ready to roll. And a couple of others.;)
I, too, stumbled up on this by accident. My nightly sleeper is a GT Double hung @45°. ..rl is under 8'. As someone pointed out, placing tree straps high enough to achieve this is a problem.
Mike's Saturday morning breakfast is a thing of beauty...tears of joy come my eyes. It cries out for great salsa, so I'm putting out the call for salsas. Bring the heat, if that's your game, but more...
Those get my vote. Longer versions are used for mobile homes...when they can be removed at all, they are usually destroyed in the process.
For me, the utility of a double layer hammock comes on really cold nights when my 20 degree quilt needs some help. An EVA torso pad makes all the difference.
A member here, Debi Jaytee, tore the rack off of her Subaru when she hung from it. The rack on my Tacoma is held on by sheet metal screws...no way I would hang from it.
The eighth paragraph mentions the screw in type anchors...
My tarp gets pretty nasty, between birds, pollen, sap, etc. It gets that way because it is always up.;)
Because Dutch pees on the ground...
So, Febreeze and Tums. Check.
3 sites left...if you are hanging back, drawing interest on $36, it may be time to cut your losses.;)
Who is Beverly Flach???? She sent me $, but no other info. Help a brother!
Disregard. Our code breakers figured it out.
This makes me smile. Thanks, Gage!:)
Back from NM. I think I got everybody taken care of.
So far, 20 sites paid/pending payment. Get 'em while they're hot!
I will be out of range for most of next week...
Greenleaf Lake is good.
Nice pic, Erin...beautiful kitty.:)
I will be out of range the week of 09 Aug. I encourage all to pay for your sites before then. So far, 14 sites have been paid for.
Re: the spreadsheet. The "pd" column is locked...only Dear Leader can make changes there. Also, Androids require a double click to open the sheet. If you have problems, try that.
Thanks for your...
This is great! I'm getting mail from people besides Adriana!
Okay. Got 'em answered, for now.
Everbody, please, please, include your screen name in the pp transaction. If you don't, your $ will go to Gringo National Bank, and be converted to HF scrip (Dutch...
I have received a number of PMs...I am presently on the road, and will respond later this evening. TFYP. Dave
Patience, y'all, patience. All will be revealed...:)
I received a Poly D hammock w/Knotty mod, and was surprised to find both mods on the same end of the hammock. What is the thinking on this? Others I own are configured so as to create "pockets" for...
All 4x4s are not the same, and in fact, individual pieces will swell and shrink as the humidity changes. I would not expect this stand to be "tight", and wobble free. At a minimum, it will probably...
No. It's a distinction that is not important to me.
I would call it a slippery overhand knot.
This hair-splitting misses the point: the strength of the webbing is compromised by the MSH. Whether an end loop in the webbing degrades it to a greater...
Beats me...this is above my paygrade.;)
True, but a MSH is a knot, too.
Lake Murray is full for the first time in years. The little streams that fed it when it was first built have dried up, as the Arbuckle-Simpson aquifer has been depleted.:(
When you are ready to venture north of the border, give me a shout.
Both parks have plenty of suitable trees. Ike's sites are generally well seperated, with a bit of vegetation between them. Murray's sites are more high-density. It's fine in the cooler months when...
I need to add that, although TX takes reservations, they are not site specific, so securing a bloc of contiguous sites requires someone able to arrive early, before the weekend crush, and pay for the...
I have camped at both parks quite a bit, and Ike wins, hands down. Texas parks are better funded, better run, and take reservations.
Murray is a beautiful lake, and is justifiably popular, but...
