In NC, any SP that allows camping will also allow hammocks. Only problem is not all of the camping sites have trees suitable for hanging. Stone MT SP will give you a map of the camp sites that are...
I just got ( about 3 weeks ago ) a Winter Camo Wooki. Wanted to have the inner color in blaze orange but due to the way they are built it was too much so I opted for total winter camo. Got to use...
While I use a BlackBird and the wife uses a RR ( she has been using her RR's for about 5 years now ), I end up setting having to set up both of them. I find the BB ( a gathered end ) much less...
I always set up my tarp and then seam seal it. After 24 hours I water test it for leaks.
Any firm dates yet ?
I am not coming. Taking another load up to new house
I would be easy to capture as I do not hike very fast these days.
Congats on the hike
A new home in the mountains with lots of trees
Hoping I can make it depending on what is going on. At least I got a 4WD truck now to brave the snowy roads. Tried to talk The Terminator into going and she said to have fun.
Two years ago we got...
When its cold, I will sleep in my clothes. I place the hand warmers in my front pants pockets as that gets them close to the artery's in the legs and helps spread the warmth
I use hand warmers and they do help a little. They are a not cure all and depending on them to allow you to camp out in temps colder than what your gear is rated for is asking for trouble.
I am a maybe.
I will take the hammock at $135
When the wife and I first started sleeping in our hammocks ( BlackBirds ) we did not have UQs and were using pads. On our first trip I used a closed cell foam pad and the wife used an inflatable...
When my wife first got her RR she was using a HG underquilt and it fit ok. Had to tweak it a little. Broke down and got her a FL Lynx UQ and it was worth the money. I did make two DIY UGs using...
I have not used the tie outs on my BB's in 10 years.
Thank you. I will have to see how my schedule works out as the wife and I are moving ( taking our time as there is no rush for us and we can not finalize the move until the internet gets hooked up (...
That was 5 cords. thank you very much. Actually I was so bad at guitar my teacher gave up teaching.
Would like to attend but don't if if I can find and size 16 snowshoes.
My trailer and truck are loaded so I will be heading out tomorrow AM. Windy and off and on rain here on the NC coast
I should be there sometime Friday around noon / 1300
I recommend Option 3. All my DIY tarps are 13 ft. Nice to have the extra coverage
Sam might fight you for the recliner.
Go attend a group hang and have some of the more experienced hangers make sure you have everything set up correctly.
I am going to try and work it in with hauling stuff up to our new house.
Don't trust him...he is always clowning around.
Shug has some of the best how do videos on hammock hanging.
I do not have a Wookie but hope to get one. I found that two pack hooks on the entry side about a foot from the end is enough to keep my UQ's in place. If they do slip it is only a few inches making...
Good times were had
Get Phantom Grappler to ID it. He knows more about knots than anyone else I have come across.
If my feet and socks are damp/sweaty when I first get in my hammock I keep my feet outside the TQ for a few minutes until the sweat/dampness has had a chance to evaporate and my feet feel dry. Then I...
Get someone close to your size and weight to get in the hammock and with the gear set up the way you would be using it. Then check to make sure you are getting the coverage you need, is the UQ...
Cold wind coming thru your hammock set up "will" steal the heat out of your rig. I learned this one night when I was testing a new set up in my back yard Secret Hammock Institute of Testing and it...
SilvrSurfr and I do not always agree but I do agree on using a tarp with doors.
The Terminator is not going to make it this time so I will be by myself unless I bring Sam to scare off the heffalumps and woozles. Also bringing some bacon for Saturday breakfast.
Practice Practice and more Practice. I have been doing this for a few years now I still find I have t move the hammock straps higher to get the proper height. Also, the further apart the trees you...
Before I get into my hammock for the night I check out the nearest Pee tree for the night. I usually have to get up once or twice a night to go.
I like my poncho liners but they are way to short for me to use as a TQ and or blanket.
If my gear is too big for the OEM stuff sack then I make one a little bigger for it. The most fun I had was trying to get my cuben tarps back into the tiny stuff sacks that they came with
I have never used a Kelty tarp myself but the folks who do use them seem to be very happy with them other than the weight and bulk. I see all they are offering now is a diamond tarp which will not...
Look at it this way. Do you change your bed's mattress based on how cold it is or do you change the blankets ? Get a good UQ. A 20 degree rated UQ is good for most folks for year round. If you...
If you need to learn how to use your sewing machine then check your local community college to see if they offer sewing classes. Might be under adult education classes. I was the first male to...
Normally the further apart the trees are means the tree straps have to be placed higher. If you are vertically challenged you can use your hiking pole and or a stick to help work the straps up...
Money Sent
I will take it
On very cold nights, like getting around 20 degrees and colder I will take two hand warmers and stick one in each front pocket of the pants I am wearing. This places them over / close to two major...
I have bought 2 RR's here for the wife and other assorted gear over the years. Some times there is lots of stuff for sale, some times very little.
Susan...a hint to the wise. DO NOT ask Phantom how to tie a knot :lol:.
Just joking, if you need to know anything about knots then ask him as he is a one man Wikipedia on knots
I have a neighbor who is ODC big time. He cut down all the trees in his yard and he breaks out the leaf blower 2 to 3 times a day blowing any dangerous leaves that the wind dares to blown on to his...
