Any reason you went with an eye splice instead of a locked brummel?
I use 7/64". It's quite a bit less expensive than 1/8" and is stronger than other stuff I have used in the past, including some rope I made in Venezuela from some polypropylene twine.
Samson's instructions say to leave the tail at full volume and just cut the end at an angle. I'm guessing that's because the exit of the adjustable tail is where the whoopie is weakest and the taper...
Where'd you get the cheap inexpensive sil?
From what I understand, sil benefits from cat-cuts more than other materials do. However, $80 seems like a potentially expensive experiment. Any chance you can try this on a smaller scale with some...
According to Samson, they originally rated the whoopie sling at 60% of the average break strength but more recent testing has put that figure at closer to 80%. See...
Is your tarp silnylon or some other material?
Just putting in my 2¢ for Redden Marine. I bought it back before they were offering the discount and cheaper shipping but it was still the best place to buy from.
Before I got the splicing...
It doesn't look like anybody else mentioned this but if you're using Amsteel or another HMPE rope you should be looking at the 12-strand Class II instructions.
The bury lengths are longer for...

Neo, you talked me into it. Just bought two. These better be the bomb diggity! :D
It wasn't too windy and I did use them on the ridgeline initially. That's the place where I found a weakness in the design.
If the two lines from the bight aren't close to parallel, the tensioner...
The same company that makes those tensioners make a micro version for lines from 1mm to 3mm. See here: http://www.clamcleat.com/cleats/cleat_details.asp?theid2=95
I just used them with Home Depot...
I'm in the same boat as GroundHog for the packs. Has anybody heard from Eugeneius?
I'm in central MA as well. Haven't been out this year but I'm going on a family trip next weekend to VT.
Pillsbury is a nice park. I've been there with a scout troop and we had a good time but I...
If you go the cinch buckle route, be sure to check out this thread for a discount: http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php?t=5369
Redden Marine has 7/64" Amsteel Blue at 15¢/ft. My order should be arriving today!
It hasn't arrived yet. Should be here by the end of the week.
Yeah, the shipping can be rough. I needed more than just a few feet for structural ridgelines, tarp tie-outs, new cinch buckle suspensions, etc. so I went ahead and bought 200' of the stuff. If...
PM sent on packs
Backup PM sent on cookset.
Did somebody from Virginia place an order for these? OnRope1 said they got an order that they thought was from our group but they didn't leave a user name or mention Hammock Forums. PM me if that...
Wow, that seems pretty expensive (but very cheap shipping). What made you choose that cord over Amsteel Blue? I just bought a bunch of the 7/64" for $.15/ft.
Thanks for explaining. I guess I should update the first post in the thread with that info.
One more note. The original invoice will have the UPS shipping charge. They will send a copy of the final invoice with the Priority Mail shipping charge when the order ships.
Heard back from OnRope1 and they suggested using the gift note section for making comments. Good luck and enjoy your buckles.
I put in my order and noticed there wasn't a comment section. I'm contacting OnRope1 to figure out how to let them know the order is from HF.
Stand by. . .
Just got another e-mail from OnRope1. They reminded me that orders shipped to Tennessee will have tax included. They also said that shipping would be $5.00!
Just be sure to mention Hammock...
Yes, the minimum would be 4 and any quantity that weighs less than 1 lb shipped would go USPS for $6.80.
They didn't indicate a specific time period but I put in a good word for Hammock Forums so...
Talked to OnRope1 again and got more info. They said that when a package is under 1 pound, they can send it out via Priority Mail which reduces the shipping cost for small orders to 6.80.
At that...
I'm running the numbers and it looks like we can save around $5-$6 per small order compared to their web price. Gonna check one more thing with OnRope1 then see where we go from there.
Here's the people that have expressed an interest so far:

I'd say try it. I've seen photos of folks using it but it often looks like they've removed the core. Since it's not part of the support structure, you shouldn't really have any safety issues.
You might be right but the shipping for even an order of 4 buckles is $10 from OnRope1 so there could be a chance to save everybody some money. We'll see what response I get from them.

I added the link to the first post to prevent further confusion. Originally, it was part of the Cinch Buckle thread and the link...
Thanks for that. I wasn't sure of the etiquette for starting a group buy thread. I appreciate your help.
For anybody interested, it looks like shipping for a small quantity (2-4) would be around $3 by first class mail and larger quantities would be $4 or $5.
Final cost for each buckle would depend on...
Anybody interested in getting a small group buy together for the cinch buckles from OnRope1?

I figured that my first post should be in this thread since I took the time to read it all. . .
I just finished my first suspension, using 1" steel rings from Lowes (39¢ each) and Harbor Freight...
