Here's a picture of where the maps are that I'm talking about, also there are a couple maps there, covering a smaller area, closer to DC.
I'm in College Park. So, not too far from you. Check out the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club (PATC) maps 7, 6, and 5. http://www.patc.us/store/map.htm
These cover the MD section of the...
Many of the pictures I've seen here have the tarp ridgeline over the tarp. Does this have any particular advantage over having it under the tarp? Would having it under tend to cause tarp wear?
Ah okay. Sounds good to me.
I just got some 7/64 green and some 1/8 gray amsteel from the group buy. I'd be willing to trade some of that for a tarp also.
Another random thought. I'm pretty good at sharpening knives,...
So, I e-mailed Bargain Outfitters asking if they would get any more in stock and they said:
Apparently I missed this. Is anyone interested in selling me one of their extras?
Apparently I just missed them before they went out of stock. Anyone decide they ordered one too many spares, and would be willing to sell to me?
I'm still working out rope options as well. In terms of slipping, has anyone tried the klemheist knot instead of the prusik? I perfer this knot and have had good results with it.
ChrisH, how is your fixed eye attached to the main suspension?
Maybe you guys are doing it differently? I was looking at the image posted by rip waverly (shown again below). It shows a fixed...
Isn't the issue derating the line due to increased line compression from the knot, not slipping?
Ah okay. So, a decent plan would be to use amsteel for premade rigging, but use polyester line if I wanted to bring a few coils for general camp use?
Yes I know who Brion Toss is and I agree...
Isn't the lark's head a knot?
Am I missing something? I thought everyone here was very concerned about not tying knots in amsteel. If you extended your suspension by using an amsteel on amsteel larks head, wouldn't this be a...
This is understood. I'd like to know what about amsteel is particularly unsuited for knots.
Ah okay. So, the slipperiness of the line allows the knots to tighten more, and thus pinch the...
Wow, these seemed to go fast. I could go for a tarp like that at that price. Looks like a upgrade to my home depot tarp.
Any idea how often they come back in stock?
Splicing is obviously better than knots. This works well for when you make up some permanent rigging for your hammock or other things, but there are many times that you want/need to just tie a knot....
I'm not sure this will distribute any stresses, but you could try seizing your hammock with a Knife Lanyard knot. http://www.Layhands.com/Knots/Knots_Decorative.htm#KnifeLanyard
This can also be...
I'd recommend using the Klemheist knot over the Prusik. I'd probably use a wrap or 2 more than the picture. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klemheist_knot
Also if you want to avoid needing a loop...
Got it. Thanks for everything.
The coiled up green amsteel reminds me of dental floss.
Paypal sent. I don't know why they take the line breaks out of the comments. It makes it harder to read.
Thanks.
Regarding the total price for 2 different sizes, I have 300' 7/64 and 100' 1/8. From what I understand, the 300' 7/64 price would include the medium box cost and the 100' 1/8 would include the small...
I would like 300' of 7/64 green and 100' of 1/8 silver if I can be added. I do not already have an order.
Thanks.
