Rah! (Official Viking battle cry)
Glad you found one you like better. Out of curiosity, how tall are you? I'm 6'4" and my ENO DN seems to fit me just fine, so you have me curious.
That is at a local sailboat marina in central Ohio, believe it or not. Probably shouldn't say that - it detracts from the vacation-like aura of the picture. :p
Can't compete with that but I thought this was a cool spot...

I'm really glad I asked. Must confess - my assumption was that more people would go for the shorter hang rather than the longer. It's always cool getting another perspective!
ENO DN + BCUSA tarp + Italian wool blanket = nap time.

Tough to take a firm stance with all that pacing about. :D
Interesting - that's what I've been doing so far as well. Thanks for the responses. :)
If you had your choice of hanging between tree A and B which are about four paces apart or between trees C and D which are more like two and a half paces apart - all else being equal, which would you...
Yep - that's definitely the way to do that - until you replace them with whoopies. :D
Remember that corkscrew on your Swiss Army Knife - that tool you never use? This is where that tool really shines. I use mine all the time to work into tough knots and loosen them up.
I chose...
You're brave. Give me bears *any* day - you can keep the denizens of Chicago. Cool pics but not for this guy.
If you'd use yer search thingy, you'd see that this ... oh wait. Er, never mind.
Seriously how cranky could a bunch of people be when their prime forum focus is hanging in hammocks? This is apt...
I'm getting that tattooed in reverse on my forehead so I can study it every time I shave. Neener neener!
p.s. Nice work!
What the? Why so it is. :D
Not much of a trip report but I did a bit of geocacheing today and some maintenance on some local horse trails. Decided to hang for a bit by a local sailboat marina to do some reading and a fair bit...
This thread needs more pictures. I took this one of this tall (well, formerly tall) oak with its broken crown with the intention of posting it here for a laugh at one point. Later in the season...
Another alternative on the owl theme. From stores that sell (turkey) hunting stuff, you can get owl calls. They are pretty easy to use and should scare the poo out of your buddy. As a bonus, you...
Here ya go...

These work.
Hope you sell it quickly. The BK2 is one *heck* of a knife - certainly the one I'd grab if I could have only one. I use mine all the time.
Take a quick walk through your woods again. Sure the leaves (which may or may not be there) are some shade of green but have a closer look at the tree trunks which will hopefully be there without...
Handy for ski-boxing.
If you want quiet, you want natural fiber. Cotton is great or wool (for those brisk nights).
As to ghillie suits - they are about making you tough to see not tough to hear. :D
Here's my son...
Great stuff - I've got one of Ron's Longhunter shirts (and the hood) and love it. That's my primary garment for hunting once the mercury dips below 30* or so.
Looks cool! Of course, we will demand pictures once your experiment is complete. :D
Slept in the Smokies this summer in my ENO Double with no insulation down into the 60s. I was wearing long pants, socks and usually ended up donning a fleece jacket a couple hours after retiring for...
I liked this thread on the other forum as well - way cool!
:D
That's cool for your dad. Can't watch the vid at work but I'm eager to check it when I get home. Hope I'm still hunting if/when I reach that age.
Reflector fire. No need to carry extra gear if you don't want to...

Give me enough donuts and I could do that to a live tree. :D
Yikes - what a terrible idea! :scared:
Nice. The mere mention of Ramsey Cascades makes me hurt (zapped my Achilles's tendon there a year or two ago) but it sure is a pretty hike. Great pics!
True, but a guy with hiking poles is (and sounds like) a large quadruped - better safe than sorry. Was hunting last year with my bow on the special early youth weekend (ie lots of youngsters with...
Probably a good idea to wear orange there this time of year - huntin' time!
I sleep in the woods all the time while hunting but I'm not sure I could work a hammock in the routine. Can't see drawing my 66" long longbow from one and I'm guessing ripstop and broadheads is a...
Man is that cool! How was the hike in/out?
Amen to that!
Lol - what a riot. Way to go. Beware crazy hammock ninjas!
Luckily the bugs relaxed enough for me to go without mine a bit ago when we camped in the smokies. That bugnet seems to provoke my claustrophobia no end.
High tarp and no net (skeeters...
Common sense with food, etc. coupled with a decent caliber handgun should protect you from bears, snakes, psychos etc. A .357 magnum would be a reasonable choice.
Try hanging the foot end a bit higher than the head end. Sounds counter-intuitive but it helps keep you from slipping all over the place.
As long as you get Australian goats, I'd think you would be fine. No translator required anyway.
I like a small pillow in my hammock - especially when I go fetal.
Very cool! Thanks for sharing.
You might want to prowl around in the blade forums. Not sure how often people part with their ESEEs but that's where I'd look. You might also have a look at Becker blades (Ka-Bar is making these...
My first big boy hammock was/is an ENO Double and I started w/ SlapStrap pros. Hammock was a good call, the SS pros was not. The problem with suspension stretch isn't just that you end up closer to...
Another similar experience here. We camped at the base of a big hill in the Smokeys a few weeks ago. I set the head end of my rig over a dry creek bed (no rain forecast all week). Woke up the...
Yikes. Hope the 'joker' was smart enough to remove the snake's head first. Dead snake fangs are just as sharp as live snake fangs and the venom is still venom.
Good call! My insurance guys need to give me a break on my rates. :D
Lol - too true.
