Update on Lake Shelby. Nice people, and accommodating since I did not arrive until after hours. 9pm. Couldn't really see much of the camp being dark when I arrived and still dim when I left this...
BigE94, yes I spoke with them yesterday and you are correct, no reservations. However he said they have plenty of spots.
I'd love to come to the spring hang, unfortunately I'll be back in ...
Thank you, I am looking at Lake Shelby. Talked to them and said they had plenty of trees and a bath house. Now let's just hope those trees are close enough together.

I'm looking for a spot near La Grange, KY to hang for one night. This is a last minute trip for a clinic, so I do need shower facilities. Would like to be possibly within 45 minuets of La Grange....
I personally am not a sue type person. My son's first year at summer camp involved him getting 20 stitches in his leg just below his knee. Playing frisbee in a grassy area at camp and the rock...
It was Camp Buck Toms. Like I said I wasn't at the site it happened. I was at the camp but a long ways away. From what I heard it was a head and neck injury. With the possibilities I listed in the...
I will apologize in advance for severe lack of details, but with all Scout summer camps going on I thought this needed to be reinforced.
Not one of my Scouts, but one at the summer camp I was at...

Here's the arrangement my trail buddy and I have. Sorry it's not the best photo, but yes he sleeps under my top...
Had the Scouts out on a 14 mile trek on the Benton MacKaye trial this weekend. Had several hangers but didn't get any pictures from outside looking in. Only one from inside my hammock with my trail...
Check at a local house getting built. The workers may have a small piece that will get thrown away.

Check at the REI store. They at one time had a map of Kville with tons of trails most would not even know existed. Not necessarily "in the wilderness'' but in the woods at least.
Welcome from just around the corner in Decatur, TN.

At 6'6" I love my 72" x11'. It's my go to- go everywhere. I've got several 60" x11-13' hammocks. They are not uncomfortable, but the 72" fits my frame better.

Got in another hang last night after helping with out annual Cub Scout to Boy Scout crossover ceremony. By the time the ceremony was over and I got my hammock hung it was only up for about 6 hours. ...
They've got a Noah 20 now.
Wow!
But I do like the new green better than the putty color I have.
Welcome from just up the road in Decatur. I've got some horses I shoe in the Ootelwah area. Snow hill road to be more exact.

This is what I use. Could be an all in one however I do carry a separate headlamp. It can be clipped to ridgeline and emits a...
JoAnn fabrics has it and usually has anywhere from 40-75% off one item coupon so you can get it cheap through there.
I'd recommend the vendors mentioned above. Their fabrics feel so much...

Got my second night in for the year. Both have came in February. This one is at the Great Smoky Mountain Council, Unaka District Boy Scout Freezoree. Beautiful night but am going to...

Got one night in last night. Temp got into mid teens and wind was blowing about 20mph. My gear is not setup for those temps compounded with the wind. But thankfully for me my Heeler...
I'm 6'6" under 200lbs and really like my 12' hammock ~60" wide. This is what I use in my house when ever possible. On camping trips I use an 11' ~60" for better tarp coverage. The most comfortable...
I would say it depends on where in the stud you are attaching. Middle or higher. Niger would hold better. As well as how the stud is secured. Middle of wall single stud as a vertical load wall not...
I'm happy with my Vulcan underquilt. It was a gift so not sure on price. I think you'll be happy with it as long as you don't expect it to do something that is not advertised to do. I'm good in...
I use an ENO down too quilt and the synthetic underquilt.
They are fine down to 40-45*. I've pushed them down to low 20's with plenty of other clothes on. They don't compress as well as others I'm...
Tenacious tape on both sides of holes.
Go behind the tarp. Adults should be adult enough not to worry about it. Turn your backside to everyone else and change efficiently. Some of the boys will have issues with it, but hammocks are...
Not sure I can make each month but will probably make at least 12 nights. Here's my morning view from 19 September 2015. One of my tress was about 18" from water. ...
It was nice. Even the wild hogs that had been through the day before left us alone.
They really enjoy these trips.
I've got 4 DIY hammocks out today my Mother hemmed and put channel in. I do the suspension work.
11 boys 3 adults. Total of 9 hammocks.
Gonna have to say I need to do a district hammock "how to" on hammock hang.
Most of them are not hung to industry acceptance, so we'll see how they do...
It takes a little more work, but if hanging in a room where appearance is more important it is also possible to use recessed trailer "D" rings. You have to cut a larger hole in the Sheetrock which...
It is possible to Bunk hammock the little ones over an adult or older sibling. This will cut down on number of trees needed. As well as number of tarps....
I think that is the best way. Hang it, lay in it and it'll spark their questions and interest. Then just be prepared to answer questions and if inclined to share a bed allow them to try it out....
Congratulations on the progress.

I just made a 13' over the weekend. Very comfortable for my 6'6" frame.
Cool. As long as you're not deep in the mountains road conditions are usually fine. I travel around 175 miles per day from Crossville to Chattanooga to Knoxville and might miss one day a year.
Are you relocating for work or retirement? East Tennessee is great but can get very spread out if still working. This might help some of the locals steer you in a better direction for real estate....
I'm 6'6". I can't get as comfy in an 11' but it's by no means uncomfortable. I can do a 12' and will for a while while packing. As I already have a Noah's 12. They work good together. Soon as I...
I'm still standing by my theory that a hammock should be 2X the height of user. I know some are comfortable in a shorter hammock, but myself having laid in everything from 10'-13' I have to say my...
I'm 6'6" and like a 12' hammock. Soon will be making a 13' as I have a theory that a hammock should be 2x your height set at approx 83% ridge line length. This is figuring on the standard ~59"...
Well........she really loves me but if it wasn't for her surgery and being banished to the recliner I'm not sure mine would allow it. However I DO NOT wake up with a hurting back like I do in bed.
Yes I have. If this was a permanent hang I definitely would. However as soon as her shoulder is better we'll be back in the bed. And the hammock will go back to camping only.

I think thimble is correct. Home Depot has them in the fastener section. Not sure on lowes. I just looked at them Saturday while at HD.
c0de I do have to be careful as the pipe will bump the wall. I'm more worried about the window at the other end. Lol. It really doesn't move much. Only a couple inches. 1-2 " maybe.

Here is my temporary indoor hang while my wife is banished to the recliner following her rotator cuff shoulder surgery.
It is 2 eye bolts screwed into the rafters with a strong poly braid rope...
On a lighter note maybe it like a scar on real leather. Maybe the nylon cow got tangled in a barbwire fence.
But do keep us posted I'm curious myself.
I used the FitBit one time. It said I was awake for about 20 minuets one night. Wrong. I only got about 1.5 hours sleep due to sick kids and restless dogs. I lost faith in it quickly.
