Thanks guys. I'm off to the store to get a 6x6 or fat galvanized fence post.
I've been away from the forums for a couple years, but I'm back into hammocking! I sure did miss it.
I want to install a single post and hang between it and the only tree in my new yard. I recall...
I have both. The Potomac fits the Expedition like a glove...it completely covers the bottom of the hammock, and doesn't move. It was made for the Expedition. It's cut to match the offset tie outs....
I think a tent would be too short.
Welcome from next door in Kitchener.
Great pictures....did the same trip last fall. The water sure is low.
I HIGHLY recommend the site on the south shore, right at the first 4 in 447 on the map in Chards last post....gorgeous site!
Chard is afraid of bears, so he'll probably want the island
Chard, I'm sorry to report that I have to join Deadeye on the sidelines. A co-worker got himself fired recently, meaning I'll have to work that weekend for certain. Have a great trip everyone.
I really like mine also. On those hot summer nights it was all I needed, no underquilt.
The portage to Louisa is long, but not difficult, with a couple moderate hills.
I was on Ragged last year on the third week of Sept. and had some quite decent bass fishing.....just sayin...
The "Radiant Double Bubble Pad" sold by Hennessy.
Jimmay....save yourself the headaches, sell the double bubble and get an underquilt. You'll be doing it sooner than later anyway.
I recently sprained my right ankle quite severely. Laying on the diagonal that has that right ankle against the side of the hammock hurts because it's twisted a bit. Laying on the other diagonal so...
I've found a few things that really help with hyper extension in my UL Explorer. To the point where I feel no hyper extension at all. I'm only 5'9" though.
Allot of sag in the suspension seems to...
Paul at Arrowhead is running a sale right now on Whoopie Slings and Toggles.
I've changed my 3 HH's to Whoopies. It's a very easy conversion, and makes hanging and adjusting a breeze.
Ragged is a very nice lake. I wish I could join you, but that weekend is wedged in between a couple other trips I've committed to. If you're interested I have a jpg map of the lake with...
Welcome to the forums from just up the road in Kitchener.
This strays very slightly off topic, but.
I just returned from my first "car camping" trip in a very long time. I've wilderness camped exclusively for over 20 years. My canoe trips are usually...
That about sums it up in a nutshell.
My Explorer UL with a Potomac underneath is hard to beat for comfortable, fiddle free hanging.
It's presently $159 on the HH website, for everything you're offering except the rap rings and biners.
I second the 2QZQ UQP..the breathable version. I use mine instead of an underquilt when it's hot, and it adds a lot of warmth when it's cold. Very versatile piece of gear. Permethrin isn't...
Woopies are the way to go. It is an "Ultralight" hammock after all. I had the problem of the stock UL ropes slipping in the rings, so I had to tie another hitch. Put up with that for a few hangs...
Yeah, but did you get any sleep?
Yeah the ridgeline tends to be rather tight on the Explorer, unless you hang with a lot of sag. Don't judge the hammock by one nights sleep. There is much more of a learning curve with hammocks...
One thing I've noticed, and hesitated to bring it up till now, is that I wake up with "Hammock Hair". Lying on the diagonal results in one side of my head usually in contact with the side of the...
I have a Potomac, and a Jarbridge. Both are used on my HH Explorer, and on my Expedition. The Potomac is a perfect fit on both with full coverage and NO slipping.
In warm weather or when I want...
Looks like Rain Lake to me. I miss Algonquin....it's been a couple weeks now.:(
That might be the funniest thing I've read today.
Few things are more entertaining than watching two engineers try to put up a tarp.
On second thought, an engineer and an architect trying...
Definitely took the side zip. Hennessy didn't make me send back the Expedition! I just had to promise to take it out of service........
I think I'll cut off the net and make it a...
I just received my shipping notice....Explorer Deluxe $65 plus shipping. :)
Don't let the first nights issues get you down. There is a learning curve to hammocks that you don't have with a tent. My first few nights I hardly slept at all. I kept sliding down and squirming...
Yes it's just fine to do it that way, actually it's the normal way to use a strap. You can still use the Hennessy knot through the one loop.
The change over is very easy, just follow the video's. Should take you about 5 minutes. All you need are a set of slings.
It seems that Ramblinrev was right on. Here is Hennessy's reply. Very nice offer if you ask me! Now I have to decide what to get.
" its a complicated fix and could continue to come apart but i...
It's well past the warranty period anyway, 3 years old. I was always very careful to open the zipper nice and wide when getting in the hammock. Kind of surprising that it broke where it did.
I emailed Hennessy and am awaiting a reply from Tom. I'll be sure to update here with his opinion, as others will likely have similar issues on occasion.
The zipper on My HH Expedition has pulled out of the whipping on one end. The fabric appears to have broken. Does this look like an issue, or just cosmetic.
...
My head says that the tarp is most important....but my backside says UNDERQUILT!
I have all the usual stuff, headlamp, mp3 player, cell phone etc.
My favorite item is a 500ml Platypus water bottle with a bite valve. The back is clipped to the ridge and the front is looped...
I feel kind of bad taking advantage of Paul, in his over-worked state.
Order placed for a Lime Green w Black! :)
They are probably jealous of your great hammock stand....
This is great advise.
I'm the new owner of a UL Explorer Zip, after having an Expedition for a couple seasons. The difference between the Expedition and Explorer is huge. I wish that I'd bought...
Of course there is always the AHE Potomac. I use one on my Expedition. It's made for the Hennessy. It's not the cheapest option, and you may not need the full length/width for the temps you'll...
Are there any differences between the two Explorer models? Are they identical in all dimensions, and comfort level? Is the only change to the ultralite, the lighter materials used in construction....
My Potomac fits nicely on my Expedition, with a bit of a gap most of the time on the bottom, but will it fit a HH Safari? I assume that I can just hang the Potomac lower, but will the tie outs still...
If it's still available, I'd like to be next in line!
Oh jeez...I didn't even notice Fronkey in the picture!
I just returned from a cottage near the park. We snowshoed into the south end of the park, up the York river to "The Gut". There is lots of snow, at least knee deep everywhere. I can't comment on...
The zipper pulls are the size of snowboards. Mine would "jingle" when I moved around in the night. Irritating. I carefully cut the inside pulls off and replaced them with a loop of thin bungee...
My wife got me one of these for Christmas. Fantastic piece of gear.
The 2QZQ under quilt protector tends to hang very loosely under the hammock, so it likely wouldn't work for this application. A dollar store gathered end hammock does though! Cheaper too.
